I disagree because I think that the bigger clubs will try to grab up our good young players by offering us and them lots of money. Given the financial realities--especially if the new rules are adopted--Markus Liebherr's dream of a Southampton FC where half the players came from the academy is an unrealistic and impractical pipe dream--which is really too bad.

That is certainly a nonsensical statement.

Have the BBC got this wrong about Europa League qualification?
Redslo replied to niceandfriendly's topic in The Saints
The same question would apply to Blackpool losing to Liverpool in the final. But this question is not unanswered. If the winner of the FA cup does not qualify for the champions league they qualify for the Europa League. The runner up never qualified under such circumstances. That rule has not changed. -
A thread with the links to published rumors all in one places seems pretty useful to me.

Fabregas also counts as a home grown player under current rules but your point is valid. They have only three home grown players and only one of them (Terry) is club trained.

I think we are all on the same page right now so let's let this thread die and jump right on the next thread raising the same questions all over again. I am sure one will come along in just a couple of days. -
For whatever it is worth, FM 2015 shows him on 36.5 K pounds per week which is clearly something we can afford. The problem would be if a richer club wanted to offer him 100K a week.

I think their decision to hire Mitchell is the key decision. It probably reflects a future intend to do recruitment more intelligently and not just throw money at nearly big names.

Also, the newly proposed home grown rules might cause some slight addition English player price inflation. If the rules are implemented they would cause a lot more of that.

The lack of ambiguity referred to the situation this year--not every year. -

I mentioned it somewhere on another thread yesterday, but the UEFA fair play report is only up to date through the end of 2014 so we do not even know if England is still one of the top three leagues. But it does not affect any of the other stuff we have been discussing. It is an extra entry into the EL. (With the new rules, in theory, England could get 9 teams into Europe in one year.) -
I never describe myself at all.

I really don't see how Hull stays up given their schedule. I would like QPR to go down just to see what happens with FFP. It would be interesting if they refused to pay and got relegated to the Conference. For no particular reason Leicester annoys me. I think it is because I keep typing the "i" in the wrong place. I am torn about Norwich getting promoted. They seem to be a generally well run club who got unlucky, but do I really want another generally well run club in the Premier League--probably not. I would like Bournemouth to get promoted for the obvious reasons. I would like the other two to be Middlesbrough and Wolves because I have played them in FM and that would be all three of my English FM clubs in the Premier League.
-
Keep in mind that with the newly home grown player rules, bringing in 15 year olds is critical to creating club trained players for the future to fill the two rosters spots that would be open only to club trained players. Of course, this only matters if Grey Dyke gets his new rules enacted.

Have the BBC got this wrong about Europa League qualification?

I begin by noting that the BBC has already changed what is says (perhaps in response to my complaint). http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/31990668 No we are not saying that. Bolded part is not correct. The winner of the FA cup qualifies for England's first birth in the EL. It takes priority over a league position qualification. Therefore, there is no ambiguity. I agree he make his description very clear. However, as I just noted, it is not entirely correct. Correct. If only I could prove I was the cause. Also, I wish they had linked to my blog article. But to the fair, I didn't mention my blog in my complaint. There is no ambiguity. Unless you were unaware of the rule change from last year, you were probably fine before you started this thread. That is a very logical way to look at it. I wish I had thought to explain it that way. That is the advantage of winning the FA Cup. The league cup winner's position is, normally, the lowest position of the three. I believe, but am not 100% certain, that if the FA Cup winner is in the CL, the it goes 5th, League Cup, 6th so that the sixth place club enters in the third play off round. Fortunately, that won't happen this year. True, but Wigan went directly into the group phase even though they were relegated so that shows that the FA cup winner's place in the EL is the highest placed spot. No. That used to be true but now England's top two EL qualifiers go directly to the group stage. Curses. Maybe you are responsible for the fix since I am sure they check their tweets more often that they check their comments. This is correct. That would have been true last year. This year the reason for wanting an Arsenal Liverpool final is to make sure that none of the other clubs could win. If we knew Arsenal was going to win I would not want Liverpool in the final. -

This is true which is why we want a Liverpool Arsenal final. -

Agree. Also, deja vu. -
The real question is how do they rebuilt given the limitations of FFP. I forsee significant difficulties for them. Their players are highly paid so new players will expect the same. They are unlikely to get any where near all their money back from any of the older players. I am hoping their off season is more interesting than ours.

Have the BBC got this wrong about Europa League qualification?

The BBC has it wrong. This keeps coming up on thread after thread. Cup runners up no longer get into to Europa League. Here is a link. http://www.as.com/misc/circular_nuevo_formato_UCL.pdf It is true that the new rule only applies as of next season. That means that the teams qualify for the next season under the new rules. The next season is the Europa League for 2015-2016 so the results of this season are affected. Assuming the table is the same at the end of the season as it is now, here are the possibilities. Arsenal win FA cup. Since they are in the champions league, seventh place (us) in the premier league gets into the Europa League and plays in the third qualifying round. Our first game would be July 30. Liverpool win the FA Cup. They qualify for the group phase of the Europa League by doing so and, once again, seventh place also qualifies. Anyone else wins the FA. They qualify for the group phase of the Europa League as does the fifth place club (Liverpool). The sixth place club (Tottenham) qualifies for the third round and has to play on July 30. We would not qualify. I sent them a comment asking them to fix their error. I wonder what will happen. -
Obviously, Chelsea's management thinks they would be worse off. I can't judge. However, under the newly proposed rules neither Bertrand nor Bamford would qualify as club trained for Chelsea. The would obviously still be English fa home grown.

He has been slumping recently--maybe that is the reason.
