    Two questions

Who must have been playing very well to win all those cup and Europa games, not to mention finishing tied for a spot that would require a playoff (unless it is 17th).
  2. He could play for us in Europa League qualifying and still play in the Champions League for his new club.

    Two questions

And to be fair my original question was probably only interesting enough to answer when in a pub.

    Two questions

39 Premier with playoff. 10 FA cup with maximum replays 6 League Cup (As I read rules, no replays) 23 Europa (8 qualifying, 6 group, 9 knock out--this assumes we qualify as fair play team and reach finals--four less if we qualify in 7th place or 6th place and Villa win FA cup) So I get 78 for Southampton as next season's max. The theoretical max for a League 1 or 2 club is much harder.

    Two questions

I wouldn't count those as separate games if only because the answer would be infinite then.
  6. From our current perspective, what is the most games Southampton FC might have to play next year (excluding friendlies)? Also, what is the theoretical maximum number of games an English league club might have to play in a season (excluding friendlies)?
  7. I talked about these changes in my blog awhile back: http://redsloscf.blogspot.com/2015/03/greg-dyke-and-his-terrible-horrible-no.html It was the first of a four part series which I just finished this week. Missing from the skysports article is a mention of the exception for expensive players which I am currently unable to find a link for. I thought it allowed for a work permit for anyone whose transfer fee was 10 million pounds or more. As far as I can determine, the new rules are not yet posted on the UK.gov web site, but I don't claim to be an expert in navigating that site. The FA's site still links to this past year's rules.
  8. I was reading the football365.com page and saw this comment from a reader identified only as "balls-to-monty": "Time to play Liverpool players in their natural positions? I agree, but surely the subs' bench isn't big enough for all of them?" http://www.football365.com/
  9. If I have any kids they must be asking that because their mothers never notified me. To be fair thought, there is only one woman I did not see again during the relevant time period so it is probably not an issue. Also, I should mention my initial comment was a joke. I also made similar career decisions albeit without kids to influence the decision and I make enough to have many of the nice things I would buy if I had unlimited money. Basically, all I really miss are the politicians I could buy here in American if I were rich enough.
  10. Which is why I don't believe the Spurs interest in the Olympic stadium was fleeting.
  11. And as they grow up, your kids will ask "Daddy, how come we can't have nice things?"
  12. The stadium can be financed with money the owners put it. FFP does not limit that kind of spending so it may be irrelevant to their transfer policy.
  13. I have often wondered at the extraordinarily low number of passive aggressive press releases in modern sports.
  14. I want to skip Europa qualifying so if Villa win the cup we need to finish 5th.
  15. That would be a game for the ages.
  16. Assuming Madrid doesn't get a transfer ban.
  17. We need to play the best possible team. There are still things that need to be done.
  18. There is nothing wrong with fulfilling your contract and moving on. Forcing a move in violation of your contract is a different matter.
  19. I just posted "Greg Dyke and His Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Ideas (Part Four)." Warning--it is kind of long.
  20. I just posted "I Make Predictions (Round 35)."
  21. The headline is poorly worded. It sounds like Man U is after Wass too.
  22. As long as we are throwing out wild predictions: Koeman will extend his contract one year and then take over at Holland. Jurgen Klinsmann will have had enough of the US national job and will become the new manager of Southampton.
  23. We are a lot better than Burnley, West Brom, and Aston Villa. Give us those missing 10 points and where would we be.
  24. England has four in 2015-2016 and 2016-2017. It is very much at risk after that. English teams need to do well this coming season. Roughly speaking, England has an 11 point lead on Italy, but Italy can still reduce it by nearly two points with good results this season. Next season about 7 of those points drop off the lead for 2017-2018 qualifying. Four more points will drop off for 2018-2019 qualifying the year after that. The problem is obvious. http://kassiesa.home.xs4all.nl/bert/uefa/data/method4/crank2015.html
  25. You failed to include their share of the Lallana transfer. Given this relatively friendly and cooperative history, isn't this something we should all be happy about. They will not be an easy six points. We are the big game of their season and they will do everything to be ready. Alert the media. A fan overreacts to his clubs success. Unprecedented. Also, could you provide a link? It might be fun to read. And no matter what happens, you will enjoy the special season you have ahead of you. To me that is the whole point of all of this. People can be fans of more than one club. You quoted the only line in the article that seems at all dubious to me. And technically it is true. The "powder keg" of the Bournemouth-Southampton rivalry has never before erupted so it "could be set to erupt like never before." But probably not. You need to read more. Try reading some economic analysis by British politicians who all seem to believe that austerity was a good idea. Now there is a load of multiple asterisks if there ever was one. Agree. This was critical. Assuming he is telling the truth, naming a name would get someone fired.
