  1. Now I have this mental image of our young players being told that they cannot play for the first team until they improve their ability to waltz. I visualize them all dancing together inside that big plastic dome.
  2. Playing time.

  4. Given his injury, it probably was his worst season ever at least from JWP's personal perspective, but he did not play horribly when he was healthy.
  5. Suarez joined Liverpool in January 2011 so 2014-15 6th 2009-10 7th 2008-09 2nd 2007-08 4th 2006-07 4th 2005-06 3rd I also agree analyzing things this way makes no real sense. Maybe he was not looking at seasons without Suarez, but removing Suarez's goals from the seasons he was there and looking at where they would have finished. But that doesn't look right either. I like to think that I have 0.78 of a brain but I didn't get your point either. Also, it is a weird point to make. Sure, we can look at Liverpool's 2013-2014 season and attribute the 2nd place finish to Suarez and good luck, but their bad season this past year was due to bad luck. Teams get lucky and unlucky all the time. That is part of the game. Much as I would like it not to be so, Liverpool is still well above Southampton on the Football totem pole. (Someone should build a new football totem pole each year. That would be cool.) In the next several years this may change, but it may not. They have tremendous financial advantages over us and FSG is not stupid. They will fix at least some of their problems. Also, we must be aware of the possibility that Southampton has been lucky in various ways over the past several years. We can have a bad year and it might happen this coming season. Clyne going to Liverpool is not irrational. He will get paid more and get more status. He will believe he will start regularly, play well, and improve their side. All of this might turn out to be wrong but Clyne is not likely to believe that going in. In fact, given our last signing, Clyne might reasonably believe he will get more playing time at Liverpool than at Southampton.
  6. That would be quite smart. Good thought.
  7. If this happens, and we are selling to Liverpool, I would favor delaying it as long as possible to keep Clyne from getting a full preseason with Liverpool--unless he was disrupting our preseason, of course.
  8. Yes, we would. But that is the point. We could not hold onto them. In a more rational world, Liverpool would have understood what kind of player Lambert was and either used him appropriately or not bought him at all so we might have been able to keep him. Looking at our current roster, Cork is the one I would miss the most, but apparently Koeman would not agree. What does he know?
  9. I am not sure it is gossip if the club provides accurate information about its own players to a single reporter. Also, there is no reason to assume that Southampton was Wilson's only source of information. Possibly, for example, Southampton told him that there had been no offers received for Schneiderlin, but the information about Arsenal and Manchester United making inquiries came from another source as did the alleged valuation Southampton has placed on Schneiderlin. Plus, as beatlesaint noted, there is nothing resembling gossip about what other players we might want.
  10. I just posted a blog entitled "Southampton’s European Roster Update (18 June 2015)" which discussing issues relevant to this thread. http://redsloscf.blogspot.com/2015/06/southamptons-european-roster-update-18.html That question is unanswerable. Many are not good enough and many of those who will be good enough will be bought away from us by richer clubs. If you are looking to support an English club that creates and retains its own talent, you should probably find a Championship or League 1 club to support. I do not think it is possible to have success in the current Premier league with a British core. Certainly, the clubs that regularly win the league or qualify for the Champions League are not successful because they have a British core.

  12. Now I know why I only read the football part of either forum. (And yes, I know reading this thread contradicts that but I just clinked on a link to get here out of curiosity. And I only read about 40 posts here before jumping to the end.)
  13. It starts: "How a Billionaire Heiress Cracked the Premier League Boys Club Katharina Liebherr, the only female owner in the English Premier League, orchestrated the most successful EPL season for once-struggling Southampton." Isn't that a little disrespectful towards Delia Smith?

The club should encourage him to start getting his coaching certificates, if he hasn't already.
  15. That is a good point to make clear. That is why, when using Manchester United's Scouts, I would accept 2 star players. If I were using Southampton's scouts I probably would require three star players. As a practical matter, according to FM Southampton does not have good enough scouts or enough of them for my system to work using Southampton.

  18. Good point. Likely he has not considered this and will modify his behavior in the future.
  19. That is the trouble with accurate and clear headed analysis. It ultimately provides less definitive conclusions than wild speculation.
  20. I think Shane Long is in the category of player we don't expect to leave--like S. Davies and Pelle--at least not until their contract expires. The ones who are likely to move on are the ones that need to be bought cheap and sold for a profit.
  21. I think part of the problem is that no one remembers your claimed source after the first time you post it. You almost have to link that post every time.
  22. Depends on who she is and whether you are getting the information from her directly.
  23. He has been bribed by gamblers to field a weaker team. He has been bribed by Jones and Gibbs. He has been told who to pick by someone higher up in the FA. He lost a bet and has to do this as a consequence. He has been replaced by a body snatcher. Given your restrictive English libel laws, I should make it clear that my post contains jokes. I certain do not think a body snatcher would play Henderson at right back and do not want to be sued by one.

Is this the same guy who signed with Valencia three days ago? http://www.beinsports.tv/news/title/valencia-agree-rodrigo-caio-deal-with-sao-paulo/article/qccuq1h39qe61oacczfr76zom Maybe we can still sign him. Actually, I doubt we could sign him because he would not be eligible for a work permit. He has no caps.
  25. Also, if it were a question of Clyne needing to learn to play with the national team and adjust accordingly, wouldn't it have made sense to play him in the friendly?
