  1. UK average is closer to £25,000 I believe which is crazy really. A first time buyer trying to get on the property ladder around here needs about £30,000+ a year. If you don't want a drugs den you're going to need £40,000+ salary per year (which honestly still buys you f all). Of course that's all irrelevant as rent is so much higher than mortgage payments it's almost impossible to save for a deposit anyway.

Let's sum things up: Joe Hart is a great keeper but he's full of himself so makes mistakes Rose and Walker are pretty poor all in all Wilshere is a joke. He's pretty good when he gets game time but he had none before the tournament. Saying it's because he's injured is no excuse. Injury is a personal defect not an excuse to point out he could be better. Kane can't take set pieces. We saw that in the groups yet he's still on them in the knockouts. Not only that but he's a threat in the air so it's a double blow to have him on free kicks. Rooney hasn't done anything for England his entire career. Probably it for him now and that will be a good thing. Then there's Woy, the old man. A crap captain and a bunch of bottling Spurs players managed by a dinasour what do we expect them to do. Fair play to Iceland good luck in the tournament
  3. Must sleep but feel like this is an important time in our history that I don't want to miss
  4. I just can't I just can't I just can't believe this thread
  5. Leicester are taking a gamble on him. He'll probably come good and score quite a few goals next season, but the trouble with paying 100k a week is that other players in their squad will want similar. Being a team sport other first team players might not be happy on a great deal less than him. The other thing to remember is if they finish 7th next season they've got a guy on the books they're giving out 100k a week for.
  6. I was reading that and trying to work out what song it was lol... and then the chorus kicked in. Gunna have that in my head the rest of the day now :/

Burnley fan just been interviewed on Sky Sports about the opening fixtures Burnley Fan: Really good start to the season, first 7 or 8 games are all winnable. Interviewer: You're away to Liverpool, Chelsea and the Champions...?!? Burnley Fan: That's nothing..... Liverpool haven't won anything in years... Oh god that was funny

Why? Is that really the problem? Wouldn't it be better to ban the Russian ultras who are organising specific attacks on other nations fans?

  14. Is Virgin Media really bad? I was with Sky for years, got sick of their slow broadband. Used to take me 24 hours to download a 40 minute episode of (ironically) "24" from their on Demand. Phoned them many times to do line tests and upgrade rubbish. Engineer from Sky laughed and said you're getting 0.8 mb/s and he could boost it up to just over 1 mb/s. In the end I went with Virgin. Been with them 2 years and I normally get 180 mb/s or more. There's 4 of us here using the Internet and it's night and day. To be fair to Sky I never paid a penny for their broadband (mainly because I flat out refused to pay for something I couldn't really use). Of course other benefits of Virgin include better recording options and BT Sport is free. Virgin is pricey but I don't think I could go back to Sky. Oh forgot to mention that when it rained or the wind blew the Sky satellite dish would lose signal like the world had ended
  15. OK no problem, yes the overall profit for the club is taxed but the profit on player sales is calculated separately, then lumped in with the other profits before being taxed and yes losses are carried forward. Osvaldo will literally go down as an "Exceptional item" and will be shown in the profit and loss as an expense under player trading. Exceptional items are either an impaired asset (where an assets actual value is less than its value on the balance sheet) or an Onerous Contract (where fulfilling a contract is greater than the financial benefit of keeping it). Osvaldo's wages would have also been "used" as they were paid. So his weekly cost would have also been used to reduce profits (up until the point at which his contract was terminated and depending on whether we paid his wages whilst on loan).
  16. What are you wanting to know specifically? Consequences of profitable or unprofitable dealings in the football transfer market are subject to the same UK law as other profitable and unprofitable areas in the football industry. If you make a profit you pay tax if you don't you don't. Are you looking for a more in depth answer? Sales of players are not accounted for in the same way as say ticket sales. Footballers are treated as both an employee and as an intangible fixed asset. They are paid a wage which is put through cost of sales on the profit and loss account and their purchase value is treated as an asset on the balance sheet and put through intangible fixed assets. The players value is amortised based on the length of their contract. When a player is sold for a profit, an entry is made into the profit and loss account to reflect this. The entry is after Gross profit but before interest payable/receivable. The profit from player sales is then added to other profits so that corporation tax can be applied. We don't currently make corporation tax payments as we are using unutilised losses from previous tax years to reduce our tax bill to Nil.

  20. So are we too small time for a manager to go from us to Arsenal or are they saying that it's harder to buy players with lots of money than it is to buy players on a reasonably tight budget? If the Mirror is suggesting he can't go from Saints to Arsenal/Barca until they see how good he is at spending 150+ million then they're crazy. If the Mirror is suggesting that Everton is a step between us and Arsenal then f*ck them.
  21. Once you start doubling or tripling the managers wage you cause problems with other staff wages. It's why we let that physio go to Spurs (though there is more room for play with a manager). The other problem is once we go from £2 mill to £6 or £7 mill you can't go back. What happens when Koeman does go which he said he will eventually. We get Howe in for £7 mill? Would Pellegrini come next year and accept less money than Koeman? Would any top manager?
  22. Unfortunately this is the way football is going. With all the money available in the prem, wages for managers and players are only going to increase. The fact that Everton are willing to pay £7million to a manager per year and £150 mill+ in transfers to get into the top 5 or 6 shows that we might really struggle to stay in Europe next year. Looking at the "big boys", Utd, City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool can probably out spend us year on year. Now that doesn't mean they will finish above us, it just means they have a massive head start. It also means they can poach whoever they want. Now if any of the other prem teams are willing to play the money no object game because their owner is a **** then there's nothing we can do. Once you sit down at that table you don't leave it and Kat rightly so won't ante up. I really want Koeman to stay. I think we are only one or two signings from really having a go at a Champions League spot with a possible run in the Europa this year. We have momentum, we have a squad playing well together, we have a manager who knows the squad and we have a nice pre season for once where we aren't trying to find managers/players or playing in pre qualifiers. If Koeman goes because he wants to (and I mean not because Les has told him they don't want him unless he signs an extension) then is Koeman really dishonest and a defector? He said he'd stay but can he really turn down that money? Maybe he's thinking of his family? His wife or Erwin maybe. Lambert said he wanted to finish his career here and I believed him. An offer came along he never expected to see and he couldn't say no. Maybe that's what happened to Ron
  23. That's a no then
