Martin Samuel p*sses in our pool again.....
Danger Mouse replied to alpine_saint's topic in The Saints
The headline is far worse sounding than the actual article. (Daily Mail? Sensationalising headlines? NEVER!) "The Southampton board shouldn't think they can sell their best players EVERY season and remain successful, because history has shown a number of times that it's unsustainable in the long term" - is the basic gist of his argument. -

Replace all examples of Mertesacker, Arsenal, Podolski with Katharina, Saints and Ralf, etc. and I think we're onto a winner!

How many more are big enough to apologise?

So there were people who thought, due to a series of events including our ambitious chairman mysteriously stepping down, a new chairman being appointed with no experience in the sport, promises that there wouldn't be a fire sale, the subsequent sale of a number of our best players who appeared to be jumping ship; that our club was heading for tough times. We can all see though hindsight that they were wrong. Fair enough (although it remains to be seen whether the board would be willing to spend the money required to maintain our Premier League status when we don't have 4-5 players who we can sell for a combined ~£90m). What I find to be utterly repugnant and embarrassingly childish though is the pathetic gloating context of the subject of this thread and others like it. "We were right, you were wrong HAA HAA! Go on, admit it... you were wrong!" Seriously? ****ing grow up. -
Morgan's head gone- Update: It has been re-attached
Danger Mouse replied to Chez's topic in The Saints
Reattached? I'm not so sure. Anyone else see the post match interview on MOTD? MS: Ummm, it was a long summer, so now I'm focussed on my team, I have a contract to honour and I will give my best as I always did and I just have to concentrate on my football now. Interviewer: and your future's at Southampton? MS: ... Interviewer: for now? MS: For now. Yeah it's Southampton, you know I have a, er... you know I keep playing, I keep, er, doing my best. -
To be fair it's just The Grauniad's weekly footy photoshop competition... this weeks the subject just happened to be Koeman.

Well, if this summer has taught me anything it's that it's all swings and roundabouts at Southampton. So with this in mind I fully expect us to announce that we've scrapped our shirt sponsor deal with Veho and have signed a 5 year deal with Tampax instead. -

In the early 90's... Leeds were awarded a 3-0 win (original score 4-1) after Stuttgart fielded an ineligible player (substituting in a 4th foreign player, only 3 were allowed at the time). The first round leg was 0-3, meaning that originally the aggregate score would've been 4-4 with Stuttgart winning on away goals. After the 4-1 score was changed to 3-0 the aggregate score was 3-3 with no away goals. A play-off match was ordered to be played at a neutral venue, Barcelona, which Leeds won 2-1. ...just saying. -
I wish this thread was actually transfer rumours rather than the incessant bickering that makes up 90% of it's content.

Likewise. As for WATMM, no, I had to google what it was.

That fits in perfectly with what Steven Gerrard said about him in his autobiography... Makes the mind boggle!

What marque signings? Just as we, the fans, are wondering wtf is going on, so will any potential players and their agents. Why would any half decent player want to board a sinking ship? (Not that we are a sinking ship, but you can see why those players and agents could think so).

Rubbish, she took over during the "5 year plan". She let it run its course, she probably had no option to do otherwise because of contractual obligations, before starting a new plan - which is when Cortese was forced out (yes, I know he walked), Ralph Krueger came in, blah blah blah... Everything since it's been her plan has been sh1te (with the possible exception to Koeman, Tadic and Pelle).
