This is certainly a theory I subscribe to. Boufal's signing was what emphasised it for me, I knew nothing about the guy but I saw loads of other club's fans on Twitter amazed that we'd managed to sign such a talent, so I thought maybe it's because we sell ourselves on the idea that you can get a big move after us. As long as we keep attracting the Van Dijk's then I guess it's a pretty good idea, but it's if we start to get more of the Højbjerg and Juanmi's that it'll start to hurt us.

Just amazing that he probably got paid to write that. "I think my ex team should sign the best defender in the league", wow, thanks Jan, groundbreaking stuff.

He did tweet last night how he'd done his bit in the form of his sale, and then subsequent sell on fees to be fair to him. I know that's not from his own pocket but I guess he might feel he can't chuck money at something that may have been mismanaged on the back of big fees that were the result of his success. They're not a charity. (I know nothing about Poole so I am making some assumptions here, sorry to anyone who will tell me I'm wrong!)

Been having a debate with a Liverpool and now a Saints fan since last night on Twitter. In my opinion, although possibly interpreted as such, this is not a Hillsborough chant, they're just known by everyone as being victim's in every situation. Suarez being banned for racially abusing Evra was somehow unfair, things like that, they just think the whole world is against them when it couldn't be further from the truth.

I was pleasantly surprised to hear Jamie Redknapp make a point of how good we were in the studio last night, also noting how we've not been very good lately, when I was fully expecting him to just focus on Liverpool's performance.
-
Forgot to add Clasie to my list of players who are often criticised but were fantastic tonight, i've never been convinced by him myself but tonight he was everywhere, top performance
-
I know there's a long way to go but that was absolutely brilliant, if Koeman had been in charge everyone would be saying he'd done a number on Klopp. Twice the highest scorers in the Premier League have come to St. Mary's this season and haven't scored a goal. Masterclass from Claude Puel. Buzzing for him, Redmond, Yoshida and J-Rod particularly, all have taken stick in their own way and all were absolutely top draw tonight (as were the usual suspects). COYR!
-
Just remember, whether you're optimistic or pessimistic for tonight, take solace from the fact that we won't have Steven Caulker in the team tonight.
-
What would you suggest as the alternative? Seems the team picks itself a bit tonight to be honest

Morgan was fantastic, Oriol is too. Both are good on the ball, neither are that playmaker CM type from what i've seen, but both absolutely brilliant in that breaking up and re-distributing role. Loved/love them both, would love to have Morgan back, but think they're actually quite similar so people screaming which one is better is a bit unnecessary IMO. Although to Oriol's credit, he doesn't have Vic to help, and I saw Vic bully teams on his own when Morgan wasn't available, so that pair complimented each other exceptionally well. We have been treated to some bloody good players in the last few years!

For all the people thinking Les Reed is lying about offering a new contract, Jose Fonte is a player who is very active on Instagram and is more than happy to confirm, deny, or clarify news regarding himself. Since this story broke he hasn't posted a single thing. His silence is deafening.
-
Form he's in at the moment, he probably won't be playing, thankfully.
-
Well if the Liverpool Echo said it, it must be true... I'm yet to see him do anything of note on any of his returns to St. Mary's.

The most passionless, dull commentator in the game, and a complete prat to boot. Miarculously scored an absolute worldie in Natalie Sawyer, then allows their son to be named 'Sawyer'. Not even going to click the article for that reason alone. Skate.

Sakho is atrocious, seen very few professional footballers worse with the ball at their feet than him, £20million would be absolutely ludicrous even taking into account inflated fees nowadays. For £10mil i'd take him in the hope Van Dijk could make him look good.
-
Well if he and the rest of our team weren't playing so **** we'd have a decent chance and getting into a final in the next couple of weeks
-
Not at all, I thought Redmond would be a more than capable replacement for Juanmi (which I think I posted at the time, and which he has proved to be)
-
I know it's your intention but you really are a ****ing idiot. A 33 year old CB is replaceable, this is football. If we can replace Toby Alderweireld with an even better CB then we can certainly replace Jose Fonte.
-
AT LAST! Somebody else said it. Twitter is full of moronic Saints 'fans' saying we should sell whichever player plays badly that day, and then crying when a good player decides to go somewhere else, the hypocrisy is absolutely embarrassing. We of all fans should appreciate players whilst they're here, because we know how frustrating it is when they go.
-
After the article that made it into the paper's around this time last year about players and their confidence under Koeman - Maybe we just have a group of big ****ing babies! Also never known a team's assistant manager take so much of the brunt from the team underperforming, Jesus wept.

'a Pelle type' could be interpreted as 'someone like Pelle, but not Pelle'. I can't remember Ronaldo ever playing for us, so not entirely sure how that is relevant.
-
Big powerful front man please - First season back in the Prem we've not had one in the mould of Lambert or Pelle, and it's the first time we've struggled for goals. Pelle's link up play was superb and tragically under appreciated, we need it back.
-
I I guess when you're used to coming 12th and below, the bar for 'outstanding' sits relatively low

In He's lost our two biggest goal threats in Mane and Pelle and not had them replaced properly, and players like JWP, Clasie and Davis who provide absolutely no goal threat whatsoever are now having a more important role in the side. When RK came in he had a clean slate almost to build his team, he brought in Pelle, Long, Mane, Tadic, Toby, Fraser and Bertrand as well as Elia and Djuricic in January on loan. So far Puel has brought in Boufal, Pied (long term injury), Redmond and Hojbjerg, who apart from Pied are 23, 22 and 21 years old respectively. So he's brought in 3 unproven youngsters as opposed to RK's mix of experienced pro's and proven premier league players, and who knows how much of a say Puel has really had in the signings - I find it hard to believe a guy who came in from France went to Les Reed and said "please get me Nathan Redmond from Norwich". Let the man build his team, we are not going to go down, and currently theres 10 other premier league teams who would love to be in our position. Yes, we are boring, but I put that largely down to boring players. Mane was the most exciting player we have had for years, he hasn't been replaced, of course we are going to lose a lot from that. It comes to something when our centre half is our best player, and our most likely matchwinner too. It could be argued that is reflective of the manager's style but for me it comes down to a very average squad with one or two fantastic players. God how we could do with a Pelle type now, would even put up with listening to that prat who moaned about him every minute of the day if it meant we could get him back.
