Whilst almost certainly never going to happen in a million years, if we signed Armstrong and Abraham i’d probably pass out. Sorloth would be an interesting one, shite for Palace but it’s a bit of a strikers graveyard - was amazing in his loan spell in Turkey which meant Leipzig signing him, and offers a big focal point which Ralph always liked in the past and that we’ve missed since Lambert/Pelle.

It’s a shame for Ings because I think he really could’ve done a job for a big club, even as back up to a Kane/Lukaku. But I can imagine we got £30mil off Villa so that they could get it done asap before those bigger clubs come at the end of the window, I don’t think Spurs/City/Chelsea would’ve paid £30mil imo.

Few mentions on twitter that Palace have agreed a deal for Armstrong, but can’t find a source of note. Regardless, Palace fans seem pretty excited about the idea, with some even questioning it on the grounds of him being too good for them..

The only player out there that I am very confident would be a success here is Tammy Abraham. Beyond that, all the other names mentioned are a gamble. A Championship striker who’s scored 28 goals in a season for a shit team, and is youngish and available for less than £20mil isn’t a huge gamble imo. Bamford, Watkins, Adams have all stepped up to Premier League level fairly comfortably in recent years, and none of them got near the goals Armstrong got last year.

He’s not good enough to let him go for free next year imo. If he isn’t going to sign, there’s good money in him for us I think, so get rid. -
Yeah I think i’m over this one already tbh. If ever there’s a time to lose a star player, it’s probably when you haven’t seen your team live for nearly two years. I just wanna go back to a game, couldn’t care if we’re fielding the U23’s tbh.

I don’t think we’re lacking pace - Adams, Tella, Obafemi, Walcott and to a lesser extent Redmond and Armstrong all bring that in attacking areas. But pace only gets you so far, so if one of Edouard and Armstrong is quick and one is a good finisher, i’d rather have the good finisher please.

Diallo been really good, got back that nice turn/agility he had when he first arrived. Perraud getting up and down well.
-
Neither do I

You’ve just said you haven’t seen him play, so not sure how you’ve come to that conclusion. He was a couple of goals behind Ivan Toney in the league, who is playing in a much better team, and i’m sure this place would explode with excitement if we signed Toney.

Haha what a strange article. I read some of their forum earlier and it was everyone saying how they’ve got Lamptey and whereas he’ll get into our team (apart from KWP being one of our best players, and Lamptey being missing for about 8 months now). Also, they would never entertain a buy back clause as they want full control over their transfers, so they must’ve pulled out the race. It’s a glorified loan deal and great business for Chelsea, y’know, apart from the £20mil+ profit we’d make if the rumoured buy back price is anything to go.
-
Buying back and selling immediately seems to be more of a European approach, i’m sure Morata has had that done at least once. Not something you see over here very often. Chelsea had buy backs on Lukaku and Ake if I recall, and neither were utilised.
-
Maybe we decided that we could find an alternative that wouldn’t cost us about £5mil all in to be a back, only to then return to another club at the end of the season?
-
They wanted to keep Cahill by the sounds of it but for his big wage demands
-
They bid a similar amount for Emile Smith-Rowe and Arsenal basically told them to fuck off, and they did. Hopefully same happens here.
-
Pretty unbelievable that he spent one year on loan from Swansea and it was at Leicester where he won the Premier League! What a story.

To me, that injury against Villa really knocked him. He was absolutely flying, had just stuck one in the top corner and stood there like he was the king of the world, and then he gets another knee injury. You could see for the rest of the season, the frustration he had that he was no longer at that peak anymore. It knocked him for six. I didn’t see any lack of effort, just frustration, with himself and with the team. It’s so easy to say a player who isn’t playing well has had his head turned, but I didn’t see anything to suggest that at all.
-
Surely this is dead in the water now. A shame for the lad as he clearly wants to leave, but United seem pretty rubbish when it comes to getting rid/letting go of out of favour players.
-
Phil Jones should’ve made that move to a Saints/West Ham/Burnley about 3 years ago, the ship has sailed for him now unfortunately I think. He’s very reckless and unrefined, which is a cause of a lot of his injuries, as mentioned above he’s not Jonny Evans.

Callum Slattery - Official: Signs for Motherwell

If he was as good as people say, surely a Championship club at least would’ve taken a punt on him. I was surprised how slow and laboured he looked on the occasions I watched him. Good luck to him, a few players have had to drop to the Scottish leagues to then go on to carve out a very good career. James Maddison spent some time up there and now look at him. -
People say this all the time, but Ings is our first 20 a season man since returning to the Prem, yet we’ve finished 6th, 7th and 8th with our strikers barely hitting double figures. Loads of Brighton’s signings have flopped, they’ve spent way more than us, and yet they drop more points from winning positions than anybody. Clearly scoring goals is not their only issue.
-
Chelsea do this all the time - there’s big money in selling players to the Championship these days, it’s a good business model if you get it right. N’Lundulu is probably on a pittance compared to our other players, but if he does really well at Lincoln and a Championship team want him, he’s probably worth 4/5mil.
-
I’m not saying players from small clubs don’t get picked, i’m saying a lot of players have been picked in the past just because they play for a big club. Rice and Phillips are both brilliant players, and would’ve been my choice to be the CM pairing for England - but did any English CM’s that were competing with them and play for bigger clubs get left out? I can’t think of any. Henderson would’ve started ahead of either of them if he’d been fit, but actually Rice is a much better footballer imo, so thankfully he wasn’t fit.
-
I’m not sure you could ever really argue that some players haven’t had England caps based on the teams they play for. There was a time pretty much any player who’d played a minute for Spurs under Poch was getting an England call up. Harry Winks and Ryan Mason have 11 caps between them. Eric Dier had to have a completely disastrous season for Spurs this year to finally drop out of the England squad - he has 45 caps!! History shows plenty of players get into the England squad a lot easier if they play for one of the bigger clubs. And no, playing for a bigger club doesn’t necessarily make you a better player. Plenty of players come through academies at bigger clubs and get game time, but aren’t at the required level - Ryan Mason as I mentioned being one of them. Mason Greenwood was rumoured to be in Southgate’s this summer until injury - who’s done more at Premier League level; Ings, Bamford, Watkins or Greenwood?
-
But did they leave anyone out from Man United or Man City? Mason Greenwood was going to go if he wasn’t injured - what had he done to justify that?
