Often wondered if the Toby situation was a turning point for the club and Koeman. Sign Toby and it would have made a big statement to our team that we can keep the top players. To lose Toby to a non-CL club (as they were then), just made me realise how hard it is going to be to build a good team whilst losing the top players.

Anyone who P*mpey are playing. I foolishly said that I'd support Brighton if Rupert Lowe came back and then he did! - so I dd support them for a bit but Saints were in my heart.

From the Mail VICTOR WANYAMA Southampton to Tottenham - £20m Talks took place on Saturday and, with Southampton short of players, cash plus Erik Lamela on loan could be the offer that makes Wanyama's move happen. The 24-year-old Kenyan is Tottenham's priority after signing Son Heung-min from Bayer Leverkusen and has told Southampton he wishes to leave the club. Verdict: Worth a gamble Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3215636/Paul-Pogba-David-Gea-Gareth-Bale-Fabio-Borini-10-big-deals-make-difference-window-draws-close.html#ixzz3kHQb9Enc Follow us: @MailOnline on Twitter | DailyMail on Facebook

Maybe the club now think that VVD is rubbish and are looking elsewhere. Better to dodge a bullet now -

I also believe that our failure to attract Toby was a pivotal issue for the club. Had we signed him it would have shown that it is possible for a club like ours to sign 'top six' players and thus raised our profile. I'm not sure whether it was entirely the club's fault though. By all accounts Toby's head was turned by the other Spurs Belgian players at the internationals and so he may have always going to chose them over us. -
Let's not forget that it was the players that wanted to leave and not that the Board pushed them out of the door (apart from Osvaldo)

I also wonder if the Toby situation was a turning point for Koeman. The realisation that top players will always go to the wealthier clubs despite Toby's respect for Koeman. Koeman has not had the same spark ever since and seems weary of the constant media speculation surrounding the club. Hopefully getting Clasie fit and on the pitch will lift Ron's spirits

Arsenal are in need of some defensive replacements -
Same for Meridian too

It was reported the the Toby situation was a smokescreen for Spurs wanting Suarez, perhaps it was also our smokescreen?

It is Samuels that sees us as weak and ripe for picking. He has not forgiven us for surviving the 'meltdown' and staying in the PL last season.

If Spuds are turning Belgian, then we can become Dutch

Cedric, Forster, J-Rod, Vic, Juanmi, Mane, Bertrand could all be crown jewels by the end of the next season and then there is potentially Clasie and the new CB. Our major worry is not losing players but the biggest jewel of them all, Ronald Koeman in two years time. There is nothing wrong in being England's Atletico Madrid - it is a model that works. Didn't like the Martin Samuels article - another little dig at the current regime. Don't see that we were weak - what else can we do? Bet he doesn't regard Liverpool as weak.

New under 18's manager appointed - Anthony Limbrick

hope that is direct to Aus and not via WHL -
Mind you, six years ago who would have thought that it was the Stokes, Swanseas and Crystal Palaces that would be up with us challenging for Europa places and not the 'massive' clubs like Newcastle, Leeds, Villa, Wolves etc. And with 'tiny' Bournemouth in the Premier league - it all just must be a dream.

Who of our youngsters is really ready for the first team?
-
I'd like to see a clinical finisher at the club
-
Maybe he is waiting to see what happens with Toby
-
Still think we need someone with proven ability to score in the PL. Austin will work hard and score goals.
-
I would have been annoyed if QPR had signed him because he is someone that could do a decent job for us. It is the £12m, if true, that makes my eyes water.

Will be interesting to see if any Koeman magic rubs off on Yoshida (and maybe Hoover too)

If nothing else, the Pelle and Tadic interviews indicated that they both want to be at Southampton. Compare it with Osvaldo's unveiling . . .
