Take science for example, since George Freeman resigned at the start of July we haven't had a science minister. My other half works at UKRI and the lack of ministerial oversight means that it's impossible to make any new funding calls or announcements. It's also unclear how much money is going to be allocated so it's impossible to begin allocating it to the individual funding bodies as nobody knows how much there is. Remember, this is all coming after the Tories bigged up how important scientific research is and how it's intrinsically linked to national prosperity. Keeping Brexit safe now appears to be the most important thing. Talk about pandering to the lowest common denominator! Absolute shambles is the only way to describe this so-called Government.

One of the few clear direct benefits could've been to invest heavily in gene editing and genetically modified organism (GMO) research and development which is currently banned due to a ruling from the ECJ. With proper investment we could've been one of the leading lights in this field and attracted some the best scientists in the world. What's interesting about the current situation is that Boris's supporters within the Tory party are only to happy to talk him up by praising his decision making during the pandemic. 'He's shown great leadership', 'He's got all the big decisions correct', etc. When we finally get to the public inquiry and some of the decisions made by the government are found to have been terrible, it'll be interesting to see how he distances himself from them. I'm certain he'll try though.

Reminds me of the first time I went to give blood many moons ago. As I got to the door of the centre the doors swung open as an ambulance crew were carting out someone who'd collapsed after donating their pint.
