  1. Bertrand's two non-penalties at Old Trafford, Austin's goal against Watford, Friend in the Spurs game etc etc - VAR may do us and other non-top six sides a favour
  2. We definitely need a striker over haul. We have what Cantona ( I think) described as water carriers, which is what may be required in an honest hard working side attempting to avoid relegation. What we will require if we stay up are a couple of enigmas, players who may disappear from games and are carried for spells , but are pacey, unpredictable and most importantly score plenty of goals. I hope such a player can be found by our scouting network although the black box has failed to identify a good enough player for some time, probably since Mane joined us.
  3. I would like to see a Bielsa team in the Premier League at St Marys - an inspirational tactician in the modern game.
  4. Ah , maybe we will, starting today !
  5. After giving our manager's press conferences a miss since Ronald left, the Ralph ones are back on the money - detailed comment, informative and entertaining from a confident guy. (Today's is well worth a watch if you haven't seen it)
  6. Watching Dortmund attack "The Wall' in the second half and hearing mention of Liverpool attacking the Kop, makes me wonder why Saints concede attacking the Northam and allow the away fans to suck the ball into the net. Since we moved to St Marys too many away teams celebrate a late goal in front of their own fans.
  7. ... He needed to man up, and he has under Ralph
  8. .....I think most of the 32,000 in the stadium were better than Davenport
  9. Not quite sure about the Pulis nepotism at Saints as ( very fortunately) Tony Pulis has yet to manage Saints. However when our incumbent manager bought his son, who's knees lasted 20 minutes, fans' concern was evident long before we were relegated.
  10. I had the pleasure of meeting Gordon once. A wonderful man, very unassuming and humble. And then there's that best save ever RIP Gordon - The best keeper
  11. Shame Valery went off yesterday after that heavy challenge. Our balance down the right was lost , and then Stephens had another brain freeze
  12. Cross to the back post ?
  13. Feyenoord midfield controlled the midfield with a bloke called Clasie bossing it ....
  14. To add to the debate, Austin will be probably receive a ban from the FA for his two fingers at the Citeh booing.
  15. Some managers - Van Gaal and Poch spring to mind, prefer young energetic intelligent players who take on board the manager's system and do what they're told; in lieu of successful but over the hill prima donnas. I reckon RH is from this school of management, which bodes well for us as he will improve the youngsters, putting a value on them.
  16. This. Just when going to games was becoming a duty with little to enjoy on the pitch, along came Ralph.
  17. Best football match at St Marys since Koeman left, we needed that after the dross of the last few seasons. To make so much progress with the new system in a week, with so many injuries, is a credit to Hassenhuttl and Rohl. COYR
  18. Time for a massive clear out then - too many players take the money and has contributed nothing worthy of note for over two seasons. It concerns me that whoever the manager is, whatever the system; if we go mentally weak, lack confidence etc when we shoot or defend it doesn't make any difference. I do not understand 'lack of confidence', if you are technically proficient you can shoot when you need to shoot, welly the ball into row Z when you need to defend under pressure.
  19. I agree - Maybe the away fans could take the Kingsland North corner, and give the rest of the Northam and Itchen corner to the home fans ? Once out the stadium there would have to be a way of them exiting to their coaches in Britannia Road, which would involve a cross over unless the internal rear corridor areas of the stadium beneath the bowl can house this, maybe with an enclosed mezzanine level gangway.
  20. In response to the OP, whilst agreeing Pellegrino was the problem, we had to have someone to immediately get a focus to stay up. Hughes had the respect and organisation to do this, albeit Swansea falling to pieces helped our cause.
  21. Danny Rohl ?
  22. Assistant - Danny Rohl ? https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2018/12/04/ralph-hasenhuettl-will-announced-new-southampton-manager-ahead/
  23. On the button, Sydney - Trying to draw at home to that Israeli side and the tail off with dire football when safe being the low points of a strange season. Also I suppose not going for the jugular in the San Siro, a great trip except the result.
