Totally agree, Duncan. Saints fans need some faith restored. We need to enjoy going to a football match with some chance of winning. Since Koeman left, matchdays have become a duty, almost a chore ( obviously excluding the two visits to Wembley in the cups). I believe Adkins is still based in Compton and is obviously available. Win or lose we always had optimism with Our Nige.

If we are looking to change manager or Ralph walks, we need a manager who would try his best this season with such a poor squad, but be a proven manager who would excel in the championship. I would prefer Nigel to Big Sam or any ‘exotic’ appointment .

If Gao ever wants to realise his investment he needs to start taking a bit of an interest in the day to day running of the club and also investing to keep up with the ever moving feast that is the Premier League. However I have yet to believe he has any understanding of what is expected of a football club owner. Put another way, if he fails to act, he has a lame duck on his books for many years. A desperate shame it is our club he selected .

Having seen Saints just survive in the top division for many years before finally going down, and then suffering the Poortvielt / Wotte era, when there was nothing to enjoy at all, I would prefer struggling in this division rather than go down to see (perhaps) more wins. I agree with the comments on here about Sky ruining the top division, particularly for having to adapt weekends to watch Saints, like today, for the benefit of the couch potatoes. I also think the division lines are now redrawn. There is the top 6;maybe two or three other clubs like we were for a few years hitting the glass ceiling; and then clubs from about 12th in this division to say 10th in the championship who are all provincial city clubs with a decent following. Maybe it's time for the top 6 and Sky to clear off to a European League .

Like Old Nick, I played tennis with Chris many times. A great guy, very competitive but also a gentleman. He featured on a TV programme about heading footballs quite recently. ( Jeff Astle ) Having lost various members of my family to Alzheimer’s / dementia, I hope he gets the best of care.

This, and on a big stage totally anonymous

Interesting comments regarding how bad we were. The premier league is all about point accumulation, not how attractive a team plays, unless you are the top 2. Did these folk go to West Ham in May - now that was bad.

Richard Kitzbichler - new Asst Coach

Sadly the club has never adequately replaced Dennis Rofe, a legend with the cone placement and subsequent readjustments necessary at a top club -
Generous of you both, but I think his mind is made up....

Great to see Nigel at St Marys yesterday. Now he would be a great No2 for Ralph, but I'm sure he'll be somewhere soon as a club manager ( Huddersfield ? )

Very sad news, RIP Justin. Way too young.

Charlie Austin - Sold to West Brom - 4M

Was that the time he broke clear one on one from the halfway line and pulled up 20 yards later with a torn hamstring / calf / other ? -
That was mostly due to our gifting them all six points. Two draws and they would have been cast adrift much earlier.

This summer's exciting signings (Djenepo /Adams) will be the forum rejects ( Boufal) in two years time. It's always been that way.

According to Sky we were one of the clubs attending a transfers ‘speed dating’ event at Stamford Bridge today !

I thought it strange that on the biggest stage - Wembley - he was totally anonymous.

Good post. The disconnection between club / city and owner is a worrying way forward.

It falls at the first hurdle - no mention of his hatred of Pompey

I can't find the ' where are they now - former youth players thread' so : Olly Lancashire released by Swindon - off the Crewe !

Not all bad - we should see a few Saints play against Kosovo at St Marys in September !

I would like us to get points or at least not lose against the promoted teams, Brighton and Burnley, gaining a lot more points that we have given to opponents this last season. A few more wins against the mid table sides and a couple of decent wins against top 6 sides. Secondly learn how to manage a game from 85 minute on to secure whatever points we have got ( or get a winner). Both of those would give us a foundation to go on a couple of cup runs. 10th-14th would be a big improvement with a team worth watching, which is generally what Ralph has shown us (exc West Ham away )
