  1. Grew up in North Kent and watched Gravesend & Northfleet ( sadly now renamed Ebbsfleet United) for many years from 1974 and was a vice president for about ten years when one my mates was chairman. Moved to Winchester in 1987 and have been watching Saints regularly ever since, becoming a season ticket holder when the club moved to St Marys. For my sins I am chairman of Winchester Castle FC in the Hampshire Premier League, but miss matches that clash with Saints home games.
  2. - Remove the gas works and make the Northam a high Kop stand like the Holt End with German style standing, and permit larger banners and flags like most European leagues / Anfield etc. Relocate the away fans to the Kingsland. - Get whichever Highways authority is responsible to change the traffic light sequence on The Avenue, to get home and away supporters out from the city quicker - Provide a railway station in the sidings behind the Kingsland - Improve the bridge over the railway next to the gas works - Ensure Ronald is put on a longer contract
  3. It was Oxford's development squad.
  4. Good article, but do Saints fans really care about what other sides are up to ? Although keeping an eye on other clubs in whatever division we are in, I trust Les etc to get what we need. I personally think our transfer policy is great, building a back bone of guys in their early 20s who will increase in re-sale value should they choose to move on.
  5. Four out of six possible opponents from Western Europe: HJK Helsinki; FC Thun; Astra Giurgiu; Midtjylland; Odds BK and Qabala,
  6. Erwin in charge on Sunday
  7. In amongst all the duck hunters errors, I suppose he was bound to get something right. On that basis credit Rupert ( and George Prost) for Morgan. That is in amongst everything going on around the same time - Twitchy, Wigley, Gray, Woodward, Portvielt and the lack of investment for Strachan etc etc
  8. Looking forward to reading Brenda's 36 page pull out from the special edition of the Liverpool v City programme next year.
  9. My favourite Saint over the past few seasons and with Toby our class acts. Will be difficult to replace but wish him well.
  10. I must say I was amazed how slow Vlaar was at St Marys. However Villa's tactics were way off the mark on the day, with so much space between the lines which didn't help him having to cover both the space behind the midfield and the vast space behind the high defensive line.
  11. £25m being quoted on Twitter where he is trending. That's about right I think.
  12. Looking at clubs like say Middlesborough, Fulham, Swansea or Everton over the last few seasons, it is difficult to get continuous qualification for Europe as one season in it affects getting into a qualifying position for the following season. I do not think we have a squad yet with enough depth to qualify for Europe season on season. However , I'm enjoying the ride !
  13. Interesting you mention him, as it was noticeable he spent a long time on the pitch chatting with Ryan Bertrand after the Hull game at St Marys after all the other players had gone back down the tunnel......
  14. About a month ago (post #20 of this thread ) I mentioned Baz Dost and got shot down by the 'experts'. At the time he had recently scored four goals in a 5-4 Bundesliga win over Dortmund. Watching him play, he is often quiet in the build up play but seems to be able to take the match by the scruff of the neck at times in the last third. I think he would be a good option up front for Saints.
  15. He was in Sainsburys , Badger Farm , Winchester this morning, and stayed on his feet. It can be done.
  16. We dropped so many points from winning positions that season, once Redknapp's legs had gone. Redknapp, Davenport, Bernard, nightmare.
  17. Olivier Bernard probably would have been fine in central midfield . The trouble was he was the left back and just naturally drifted to the middle of the pitch leaving his wing exposed.
  18. Bas Dost, please !
  19. No need for this stress anymore as Saints fans - we're where we want to be,tapping on the door of the country's top six. Enjoy the ride.
  20. Went to see Chile v Brazil at The Emirates yesterday, Guly wouldn't have looked out of place in the Brazil team - very scrappy niggly game.
  21. MOS article, worth a chuckle as it is the same WBA that celebrated with Pompey when we went down. http://www.mailonsunday.co.uk/sport/football/article-3016331/3billion-revenue-2-5bn-debt-boom-bust-culture-ruins-big-spenders.html
  22. League One was fun but the feeling of going into each match with a good chance of getting a result is the same now. So glad we seem to have skipped past the perennial strugglers group after one season, and if we believe NA and others the future is red and white.
  23. He would have done if he had been positioned on the edge of the six yard box.
  24. Matt Oakley v Derby (?)
