  1. I agree, one guy who can score goals is worth say 3 x squad players.
  2. As Ronald would say himself, "It's difficult". The Manchester clubs and Arsenal have huge capacity stadiums; Spuds and Chelsea are constructing them in the near future; West Ham have been given one by us , the taxpayer; and that is six clubs already with far greater spending power than us. Add the Liverpool clubs and a top ten finish for the likes of us, Stoke, Palace etc is realistically as good as it gets . Is that a lack of ambition, or should the club be extending St Marys to becoming the top club for the shires south of Birmingham ?
  3. Just back from the game, I must admit my expectations travelling away are not much this season. We missed, what appeared to be from our end ( the opposite end), several good chances when 1-0; and the game totally changed after half time, albeit we still created chances. Juanmi and VVD were unlucky late on, with the Juanmi one looking like a penalty. Another one of those days on the road. Would be good to get something out of Norwich as we need to stay above such teams.
  4. Can't see this mentioned anywhere. Why did the Saints players (not Arsenal) wear black armbands last night ?
  5. Can't stop smiling. Wonderful evening. That is what supporting Saints is all about, the unexpected . I hate the way Arsenal line up to wave to all four sides of the ground - arrogant t*ssers. How can Wenger bemoan the first three goals when two of them were disallowed (Long back heal after being fouled by the German, and VVD header) Arsenal - you took one hell of a beating.
  6. As you asked, I always liked the way Olivier Bernard could be selected at left back but spend most of the game in the centre circle. In fact add Callum Davenport and Jamie 'my legs last 20 minutes' Redknapp and we have a team geared for relegation. We are currently much better than that.
  7. We have a very strong PR team and Barry is very good for lightening the mood . Enjoyed it.
  8. Here's hoping: http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/charlie-austin-could-leave-qpr-in-january-admits-les-ferdinand-a3141986.html
  9. Since leaving St Marys yesterday rather fed up with the efforts of the team, I have watched Newcastle, Villa and Swansea and found three sides lacking in confidence, movement and a quality striker who are worse than us both on ability and points to date. Now I will relax and accept that this season we are not going to beat enough top 8 sides to be up there, but could easily finish 10th - 14th.
  10. Thought he and Bojan bossed us a few weeks ago
  11. Kante, Shaqiri, Payet, Mahrez spring to mind as well as Schneiderlin. I agree that he may be the best defensive signing, but no THE best signing
  12. Midway through his stay , I would anticipate Ronald may start making discontented statements to try and get a reaction from Saints / others. However, I think he is able to see through the 'Projects' concept that has become de rigueur these days, as money men take over the sport. I agree with Ronald, football is now. The dear old financial fair play glass ceiling seems to suggest clubs like Leicester, Palace, Stoke and ourselves may struggle with the next step, so maybe a "Project" is not a good idea, sustainability being more relevant. I remember Charlton fans being warned "Be careful what you wish for" when Curbishley was being moaned about for keeping them mid table for about seven seasons. He went, they nose dived.
  13. 1. Poortvielt - bizarre appointment, way out of his depth 2, Branfoot - desperate football 3. Redknapp - disinterested, lazy, Davenport , Olivier Bernard, his 'good for 20 minutes' son staying on beyond 20 minutes 4. Bassett / Wise - caretakers , not good enough 5. Gray - very poor results 6. Wigley - useless as a man manager 7. Wotte - Always seemed a bit of a back stabber, although may have been under the control of the Duck Hunter
  14. If, as mentioned above, the club lets corporate boxes to away fans, why not move the away fans round into the Itchen North and let the home support take over more of the Northam ? At many grounds we, as away fans, are put into corners of the ground (Spurs / Arsenal) or way up in the sky ( Newcastle)
  15. Sadio, Stephen Davis, Graziano, Gardos and Big Vic , plus Sammy Lee all can often be spotted around Winchester city, along with Adkins , Oakley etc etc .
  16. Stowe Vermont - beautiful !
  17. I do most games when we are ahead and then fall asleep, but anyone who sat through 'that' Sheffield United match after Stern John was sent off would have developed a strong constitution.
  18. Clasie is good as a 'quarter back' play maker but goes missing when the opposition has the ball, getting passed through too easily. If Wanyama is the only player getting in the challenges in front of the defence then he is bound to see a few yellow cards. We needed JWP or Romeu on for Clasie far earlier today.
  19. Honey roasted cashews, smoked almonds and pecan nuts
  20. If you're not playing, does it matter what level you're not playing at ? I suppose it depends on how much you are financially accumulating for not playing. Winston Bogarde, Gaston and Tommy Forecast spring to mind.
  21. I agree, strange that a wealthy person / organisation hasn't managed to buy them at what must be a knock down price.
  22. Ah, the re-enactment of the Battle of Pearl Harbour ,performed by the Batley Townswomen's Guild - fantastic sketch.
  23. One disaster waiting to happen on the pitch is poor team selection, two is poor management.
  24. Much as I admire SKD for his loyalty over many years , today was a disaster waiting to happen. His distribution and failure to come out of the six yard box lost 2 points. Fortunately Leicester didn't get their first goal earlier, as I think another few minutes and we would have lost. Everyone in the stadium could have predicted the final score once the cover was gone down the middle. Clasie and Yoshida came on with JWP moved out to the wing, bizarre.
  25. The ticket office struggle with creative thinking. For years I had 3 adult season tickets in my own name and took my two sons along more often than not. In the end the ticket office gave me different numbers to avoid confusing themselves if I wanted children's tickets for cup games.
