All you really need from commentators is the players' names and, possibly, to point out some piece of play you might otherwise have missed. These two just waffle on like the two old gits who sit behind me at games. There's something exciting happening on the pitch and they're harping on about 9-0 or Calvert-Lewin's close relationship with Duncan Ferguson. STFU! It's really distracting.

Yes and no. I've never previously subscribed to Sky or BT but took out monthly Now TV and BT's equivalent at the end of last season so I could watch Saints. I've carried on with them this season and justified it by using the refund from my ST. Now, to be sure of being able to watch Saints, I still have to keep those subscriptions but know that not all games will be included. If all Saints games were PPV it would be fine. If all Saints games were included in the subscriptions that would also be fine. It's the split between the two that's the killer.

Some great reading in there. We do have some people rather quick to condemn without waiting to see how things pan out.

We're not signing him permanently but will get a season out of him for relatively (by absurd football standards) little cost. If it doesn't work out, we haven't lost much. If this chance inspires him to put in some decent performances that will be brilliant. I don't get all the negativity.

He played in that Newcastle game like I'd never seen him play before. Passing quickly, accurately and forwards. Looked like a different player.
-
It would be nice to see Djenepo freed to do his stuff. He was clearly acting on orders to play it safe last week. I was grateful for the three points but bored rigid by the game.
-
Unfortunately, he takes as long when we're one nil down. I have rarely seen us take a quick throw to catch the opposition by surprise, especially on that side of the pitch. There must be a reason as clearly the players have been told to play like this. It just doesn't seem to work.
-
Still puzzled why Bertrand has to take every throw in on the left. It means we have to wait for him to get there and then he takes ages to actually produce what is usually a poor throw. It means we never take a quick, effective throw in and more often than not* end up losing the ball from our own throw in. On top of that, he gets booked a couple of times a season for time wasting.** Why not just let the nearest player take it quickly (unless we actually have a set play worked out) like other teams? * may not be more often than not, but it seems like it ** may not be a couple of times a season

Awful game, attacking wise. But our defence better than expected. Three very welcome points.

M Ha, ha good effort. But not in Turkish league.

Awful lot of bollocks talked here about "free speech only acceptable if it comes from the left". Most newspapers are controlled by foreign owners and have a right-wing agenda. Commentators like Andrew Neil, Sarah Vine and Julia Hartley-Brewer are free to spout their views in the papers and all over Twitter. Nigel Farage seems to be on the TV more often than David Attenborough. Free speech is them being able to do that and others being able to disagree. For goodness sake, we have a government elected on a right-wing, pro-Brexit agenda driven by the media but it somehow still feels threatened by a few comedians making jokes about the competence of Gavin Williamson. What Le Tiss wrote was ill-informed and a moment's thought would have told him that it would be considered offensive to link wearing a face covering to genocide. But he was free to tweet it. People are free to agree with him. I'm free to discard their opinions and to think less of them.

I was working in Italy with some Juventus fans when we signed him. They seemed to think that, very occasionally, he was a good player but he was not consistent. Seems they were right.

"It's a great opportunity to play in the Premier League. Southampton is a fantastic club with great fans. As soon as I knew that they were interested I was keen to come here. The city is very beautiful. The training ground is first class. I'm really looking forward to working with the gaffer and helping to take the Saints to the next level." There you go.

I've not seen Sarr play much but I gather he's supposed to be good. All I can say is that he had a really bad game against us and was in danger of losing his cool completely.

PEH off to Everton to further his ambitions. Ho ho.

Another stat: only the top 5 have won more games than us.

I think from Stephens' interview on Saturday, and other snippets on the official website, that it is obvious that there is a real camaraderie in this squad and that can only be a good thing. Look how pleased Ings was to see Adams get his first goal. Ralph has built something special here and it can only contribute to how we play on the pitch. I just hope we don't disrupt this by selling the wrong person or bringing in someone who doesn't gel with the others.

The Sunday Times - Southampton put up for sale at £250m
itchen replied to The Odd Guy's topic in The Saints
They might get to qualify for govt support of up to £2500 a month if the club can't afford to pay them their full wage. -
I think that illustrates my point. Genuine transfer news gets lost among the bores boring on about what the club may have said to a journalist months ago, why they may have done it, the state of the club, the state of the owners, how everything is awful, how nobody can be trusted and very, very little actual transfer news. This may be what most people want; I may be in a minority. But I would like to come here to read news about prospective signings, how likely they are and what they could do for us. But if people want to have the same, tedious circular arguments then good luck to them.
-
I made the mistake of coming here looking for transfer news and found usual bores being boring. Lesson learned.

I started watching on our second (older) TV via Chromecast from a tablet and it kept freezing. I then moved to a room with Prime installed on the (smart) TV and it worked fine. It made up for me not being able to use my season ticket this evening.
-
Disappointing in the end but who wouldn't have settled for a point before kick off? Good result.

This made me think. If you can't fund a PL club off turnover, what is the alternative? Are we to rely on a rich owner ready to pump money in never to see it again? Where would we find one? How would we get past FFP? What happens when that owner gets tired of giving money away? Or do we accept that we support a club in a smallish city that simply does not have the numbers of supporters as the top six, Villa, Newcastle or even Sunderland? That's just geography. We'll have some good times and some bad times. Obviously I prefer the good ones. I expect over the next few years we'll finish comfortably top half and I also expect that at some point we'll be relegated. That's just the way it is for us and for the other clubs about our size.

Shearer has got better though. He's now willing to criticise players and not just offer platitudes. I suppose as he gets older it's no longer his mates who are playing. Lineker is an excellent presenter although the bantz with the pundits can be a bit forced at times. Ian Wright seems a nice enough chap but offers very little in terms of insight. Just be thankful Robbie Savage is confined to radio.

What he needed to do was let it run to JWP on his left! Someone else said Ings was lucky with his goal. Well yes, to an extent. But he had to chase down to get the chance. And I'm sick of reading "Why did we have to buy Ings after his loan?" Because we effectively bought him last year, it was just structured as a loan. If we'd bought him outright nobody would have seen it as a mistake at the time.
