  1. I remember that income related fines were introduced in this country a few years back - I think it was by Ken Clark in the last Tory government. When the richer people in society started getting fines that actually hurt, they had sufficient influence to see the policy quietly dropped. It was an early predecessor of "we're (not) all in this together".
  2. Don't come round here with your rationality. You, you, you Cortese Luvvie.
  3. I thought the title of this thread was going to call for a fitness test for our more !"big boned" supporters before selling them replica shirts to squeeze into.
  4. Good grief. What a load of negative talk from the armchair experts. I've just got back and we were really unlucky to lose that. Schneiderlin was simply amazing and even scored a goal. But all the team really worked hard. Yes, some of our players are better than others. Fox lost Valencia far too many times, for example. But the positives far outweigh the negatives. Yes, I was puzzled by the substitutions but can only guess that, either the players were knackered - Adam, for example, must have covered most of the pitch several times - or Adkins genuinely felt that they would help us keep the lead until the final whistle. So it turns out he was wrong but that doesn't make him a bad manager. We outplayed Utd for much of the game and he was just as responsible for that. Disappointed we still have no points but I've every confidence they will come and we will have no problem staying up this season.
  5. I rarely go to away games but was seriously considering a weekend in Manchester for that one. Then it was moved to Sunday and the thought of travelling back immediately after the match in time to work the next day did not appeal. I imagine that many people thought the same. That, and the match being live on TV, probably accounted for any shortfall in away sales.
  6. This is a good article: http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/blog/2012/aug/31/joy-of-six-manchester-united-southampton
  7. Said he wouldn't be happy yesterday. I just didn't know why it would be. ;-)
  8. What has happened to Dave Bassett's face? He's making Dowie look attractive.
  9. You mean he's losing weight? Or did you mean lightning fast?
  10. Watch Sky here: http://www.vipbox.tv/watch/1267/1/sky-sports-news-live-stream-online.html Mind you, you'll soon get tired of the constant switch between QPR, Stoke and a car that possibly contains Nickolas Bendtner.
  11. Is he whistling?
  12. Not available until after 11 th September according to article because of Japan international games.
  13. Alpine won't like it*. I don't know what, but I know he won't like it.
  14. Did you read what the thread was about? It's in the first post. It isn't Paulo Di Canio.
  15. They don't even have to move to foreign countries. Lots of them get to stay here as "non-doms" and get all the advantages of living in the UK in terms of infrastructure, policing, defence etc while paying less proportionately towards these things than than your average PAYE worker.
  16. There are no quotes in that article to back up the claim that we've signed him just because Cortese liked him - with the implication that Adkins doesn't have much to do with it. More likely some journo saying "Ah, he plays in Switzerland and Cortese's Swiss. That's why!" But, even if it were true, I'm quite sure that Cortese is not so stupid as to sign a player without seeking the opinions of the manager and scouting team.
  17. Poor old Cleggy, desperately trying to say something to take him back to the days of "I agree with Nick". But nobody's fooled any more. If he really wants more tax on the super wealthy why did he support cutting the 50% tax rate? This is just trying to look important while knowing full well there's not a chance of it happening.
  18. 4-1. Another DC goal!
  19. 3-0 Puncheon
  20. Did he just say the ref was Bonnie Langford?

    Wigan Build Up

Can they be silent and bleat on? I take your point though. I think it's just the internet makes people more impatient for instant deals. Most fans never come on this forum so nobody should take too much notice of it. It's just a bit of entertainment with the odd bit of genuine news.

    GCSE results day

My boy got 3 A*s, 4 As, 4 Bs and a C. Which is a hell of a lot better than my O levels.
  23. I think you're right about more fans wanting in now Chanrai is out of the way. But, of course, he isn't. And then there are still all the other debts. I would applaud any club genuinely under fan ownership. But I think the only way you can do this is to bite the bullet and start again from scratch. If the trust are prepared to start again in a lower league they could even get Saints fans chipping in.
