On the pitch yes but off the pitch Cortese spent too much on cr*p players with huge wages, too much on training ground of that stature, ludicrous expenses that would make politicians seem like angels and our commercial revenue was very poor for a club of our size. We were his play toy and it wasn't his money, great at appointing managers but I'm sure it wasn't all his say if any.

Plays well for under 21's when I've seen him, perhaps he just needs better players around him

Think Caulker ship looks to have sailed, maybe we were never in for him? If Hooiveld is staying as 4th choice I can't see us signing 2 Centres back after Lovren goes. No squad will have 5 senior centre backs on thier books

We make 4-5 new signings this summer, who (realistically) would you buy? For me GK-Forster CB/LB- De Vrij RM/LM- Redmond ST-Ings Not sure what position we'll need to buy for the 5th one..

Very divergent views on this thread. He did his best for england but for a player of his quality didn't deliver enough (like most england players) . Without doubt an England legend though for his number of caps and professionalism

Exactly, I, at my age have never had it so good at saints. Our youth system is thriving, players going to the world cup. It sucks they've gone/ are going but that's football!

Gerrard retiring may make it less likely for outside top 6 england player's heads to be turned. He's a legend of the game and players obviously hang on to his every word. This would happen with Rooney also if he wasn't so f-ing brain dead

Unlikely but still possible if the TEAM perform well again this year -Ward-Prowse -Chambers -Clyne -Cork -Jay Rod -Ings? Finish 8th again and very likely 2-4 of them will make there senior debuts. It's so terrible being a saints fan these days isn't it?

You do realise Koeman is waiting to offer contracts until after he assesses the squad. Fonte and Cork will prove there worth and sign 2 and 4 year contracts respectively before the liverpool game
