Reports of an explosion due to petrol being kept in a bucket in someone’s kitchen can’t be far off.

These idiots followed a tanker full of mortar for miles. 🤦♂️ https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-northamptonshire-58767230

I have this atm, gone round whole family. PCR’s came back negative despite my son’s class being decimated by positive COVID cases. Weird.

Pretty hilarious that the plan is to ‘allow’ foreign lorry drivers to come and help us in a time of crisis. Who the fuck do they actually think will want to come and do it? Plenty of opportunity on the continent already. ”we’ll begrudgingly let you foreign bastards come and dig us out of our crisis, but only until Xmas eve. Then you can fuck off home, and good riddance, ‘cause you’re stealing jobs from honest hard working brits.”

I agree with your other point in relation to anticompetitive practices, but you are wrong here. We aren’t talking about department stores or airlines, energy suppliers are critical service providers, meaning the competition are forced to take on their customers when they fail. This is not a function of an efficient or free market.
-
The business secretary was on radio 4 yesterday saying he expected a percentage of energy suppliers to go to the wall every year, and that this is good for competition and shows the market is functioning as it should. Moronic.

I’ll take that

Fucking disgraceful. Bollocks to football

Schadenfreude or masochism, depending on the context.

I miss petrol. My petrol station used to sell petrol, but now they don’t have any, so I bought a sandwich instead. On the bright side, once we all revert to the horse and cart, we should smash our emissions targets 👍

‘Life Drawing Live’ on BBC 2 right now, where ‘celebrities’ draw naked people. If that wasn’t enough, one of the celebs in question is David bloody James. If you can think of a better use of licence fees that this, I’d like to hear it. It’s right up there with ‘Youth Hosteling with Chris Eubank’.

Sad for their families, but the loss of these dummies may in fact help convince US sceptics… though likely not. https://apple.news/ALIEwvjQ_RuiRO2icizXmCw

Joe Biden doing his best to make a drama out of a crisis. I still understand and sympathise with the objective, but he’s doing an all round bad job here. Apparently ignoring intelligence advice to move more slowly, then telling allies that ‘they had a choice to remain in Afghanistan’, he gives the impression of taking his ball and going home, leaving his friends bewildered.

Yeah but who *asked* that fish to climb a tree, eh? That’s right mlg, god did. QED.

You are making a false equivalence. The Nazis weren’t Polish. The Taliban are a home grown Afghani group with what appears to be a large support base from the conservative rural areas. Do I like their ideology? No. Does accepting the reality of the situation make me a coward and an apologist? According to you, yes. Ground operations have spectacularly failed. I note your user name may indicate service, so I’ll tread carefully, but there are plenty of ex-servicemen who feel that the entire premise of the occupation was flawed. What are the options in your mind? Continue the endless peacekeeping mission whereby the Taliban simply exist on the periphery and wait for the patrols to pass, perhaps taking potshots at our troops into the bargain? Or perhaps go for Operation Crusade Mk.2, and drop munitions on the Afghan mountains until the whole country is as flat as Kansas? Nowhere for the fuckers to hide then!
-
So your argument is that we should maintain our occupation of Afghanistan, apparently against the will of a significant proportion of the population for an indefinite period, in order to suppress the resurgence of terrorist groups? pretty sure we tried that in Ireland…

It’s no coincidence that I edit pretty much every post I make! 😆

‘an’ illiterate person hth 👍

Empty Northumbrian roads. I drove for 15 minutes today (along un-potholed tarmac) without seeing another car.

Afghanistan was a disaster before the occupation, the Taliban essentially provided the blueprint for ISIS and murdered thousands during their previous incarnation. The US invasion and subsequent sham democracy simply provided a 20 year pause.

From the BBC. Who are we to argue against this viewpoint? —- As a White House candidate in 2019, Mr Biden reminded voters that he would be the first president since Dwight Eisenhower in the 1950s to have a child serve in an active conflict. In his memoir Richard Holbrooke, who was special envoy to Afghanistan in the early Obama years, remembered Mr Biden angrily telling him he was "not sending my boy back there to risk his life on behalf of [Afghan] women's rights... That's not what they're there for".

It’s a clusterf**k, but it was inevitable that the puppet democracy would collapse as soon as the US left, whether quickly or slowly. I can’t blame them for beating a hasty retreat.

Tricky little fecker isn't he? Looks like another Long, but this one might score a goal or two.

You can't expect him to have fivers just laying around. He's got Lawyers to pay.
