The only near certain thing in the prem is who will be the top 7 clubs. The rest is a lottery -
Any idea why so many were promised transfers? Have the club told all players if they want to leave they can?
-
Just Villa then Point is, if you get close to the top 7 clubs you will soon be halted as they have the financial muscle. Can go back even further and similar happened to Blackburn, Fulham and Bolton. The top 7 sides will dominate the prem for the next 10-20 years imho. Only a breakaway euro league will change things. If Newcastle really went for it, they could bump out Everton maybe Spurs but the rest are locked in longterm
-
But it has been done? Anytime a team threatens the top 7 they get broken up. Villa finished 5th in 2009/10 and soon lost Barry, Zat Knight, Sidwell, Milner, Curtis Davies and later Downing and Ashley Young. Newcastle broke the top 7 dominance in 2011/12 and soon lost Enrique, Nolan, Routledge and later Demba Ba The top 7 clubs have been dominating the top spots for years and will continue to do so. Everton are the only vulnerable side in that top 7, the rest are locked in until the next Man C come along (FFP has made sure that wont happen however) Only way out now is a European League, leave the clubs like Saints, swansea, villa to fight it out on an even(ish) playing field
-
Top 7 is still very very hard to break into. We had a top team last season and still finished way off. Chelsea, man city, spurs, everton, liverpool, man united and arsenal have dominated the top 7 spots for years. Only Newcastle and Villa have broken the trend in recent years and were then stripped of player assets like weve been.

Agree with this 100% Think the club messed up on this. Spurs set a good precedent on this last summer (Bale)
-
Something wrong with modern football, not exclusive to Saints. What would you have done with the 5-7 want away players? Kept them, forced them to play or sold them for top prices?
-
My thoughts havent changed on this. I think Ralph did one of his Martin Luther King, Jr. speaches after Mopo left. Probably massively underestimating the players greed and lack of loyalty. I imagine he said "right we are in this together, we will do this the hard way. If your not up for the fight let me know and ill arrange a transfer for you" players immediately went JACKPOT and phoned agents. Ralph seems like an honest chap, i think he just under-estimated our group of players. "Lust and greed are more gullible than innocence."

No win situation for the club Sell players: get stick from fans and media Dont sell: get stick from players and Batman

Players have way too much power!! However if I agreed to move jobs and double/triple my wages and my current employees wouldnt let me move, id be ****ed too
-
Summary: Entered transfer window with a plan Didnt intend to sell Multiple player wanting short cut to champions league Set premiums on players and premiums were met Players wanted to leave, didnt make quick deals Strong position to reinvest FFP not involved, not impacting sales. Excited to start rebuilding Will make transfers Understands frustration Morgan and Jay part of the core, NOT FOR SALE Will not be sold!! Talk / judge again september 1st 3 deals close, no commitment on time RoKo has done a great job pre season We need depth, but need right players Deals need to be right Working quickly as possible RoKo excited by academy and facilities Wants a squad pulling in right direction RoKo leads by example, no ego, long term vision RoKo is patient, knows it will be a challenge Fans will be pleased with final product New board, new coaching setup.... No commitments to ambitions Attractive, competitive team by Liverpool game Results will come

Going to WHU on loan (according to talksport now)
-
Chatting about Saints now... 3 in this week (one a loan)
-
True, but id take Dawson over Jos. Following recent events my expectations are lower than 4-5 weeks ago. Personally id like Van Dijk
-
MLT mentioned Holtby and Dawson yesterday
-
That is superb
-
Play for Liverpool: chance of medals, Europe and earn £60k per week Or Play for Southampton: earn £20-30k, get sold when value is high enough Tough choice
-
Or perhap Kat simply begrudged paying it? It was rumoured that Mopo would get an improved contract + 500k to £1m for finishing in 8th place. If you have a team of players on similar deals youre paying out £15-20m bonuses to players that finished 8th!! Im all for performance related bonuses, but 8th!?!? If players are now also triggering international bonuses, perhaps Kat just simply had enough? Just a shame NC didnt insert some cup bonuses too... We may then at least have a trophy to show for our best squad possibly ever
-
It took 5 years to build a decent team and only 5 weeks to destroy it! Whatever the whys and wheres its depressing to watch We need some decent signings now please SFC!!
-
Yeah we should sign Deeney for £8.5 and sign Ings on a free next summer

Two question that those crucifying the board need to answer
Heisenberg replied to Rasiak-9-'s topic in The Saints
Tiote has been linked with united, williams with arsenal, begovic to chelsea, sissoko to liverpool, ben arfa to arsenal, reid to arsenal..... As with the Michu example things change fast and players values can drop fast. -
