  1. Speaking as someone who walks back to the station via the Northam Road, I really can't see what all the fuss was about - ie why the police closed the road after every match - anyway. The pavements are wide and there's that other road running parallel which most of us use most of the time
  2. Deleted!
  3. Anything to do with the fact that three out of the four players who covered that slot are gone and the fourth is our first choice LBack?
  4. Do you simply love being agressively contentious, Alpine, and practice in front of the mirror, or do you manage it without any effort at all? Why not go searching for an Edelweiss or something and just let whatever happens happens without the "I told you so" attitude? Does anyone have to live with you or are you a high altitude hermit? These questions do not require an answer........
  5. Just renewed mine on line with no problem at all - after logging in have to go to "my account" and there is a "renewals" option on the left side. Interestingly it listed all the opponents this season but it seemed like a random order starting with Peterborough..... strange as fixtures are as yet unknown (or are they :-)?) Oh - and no extra charges for credit card or anything like that
  6. Got my answer in about 2 hours.....and here it is. Thank you for your enquiry regarding Saturday's Matchday Programme. Due to unforeseen circumstances, this programme was removed from circulation. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide any copies of this programme for any purpose. Naturally, we do apologise for any inconvenience this causes. The Club will not be making any further comment on this issue Regards David David Luker Head of Supporter Services Southampton Football Club So we are no more the wiser ay?
  7. Have you suffered Deja Vu before?
  8. Ah - but does Rickie really score GREAT goals? "Unbelievable" (as in the DVD) goals? No - but he does score a lot of them. So its quantity compared to quality; which is a complicated concept to deliver in a football song. So prob best just to stick to the fact that the old No 7 has now been replaced by our new No 7......they both wear the same shirt. Innit?

    Yesterday's goals

There were quite a few of us applauding the goal in Kingsland Block 36. We had a great view down the "line of fire" and it deserved acknowledgement from any reasonable (non-bigoted) sports fan. (If it had been a winning goal from a team we were in contention with, it might be different of course!) So we let go of our our flasks and blankets just for a few moments to applaud in a very polite, British sort of way. :-)
  10. ....and no sign of the JPT which most of us expected to see being shown off after the game. Maybe its been pawned already to buy that Brighton RB :-)
  11. Yup - I have submitted an enquiry using the the email Webform on the OS and am supposedly guaranteed an answer within 7 days. 7 days......Wow - thats one heck of a long time in the life of Southampton FC - ask Pards! :-)
  12. He stands at nearly 6ft3 Rickie, Rickie, He'll take us to the Premier League Rickie, Rickie He gets the ball; he takes the **** He wears the shirt of Matt Le Tis Rickie Lambert Southampton's Goal Machine (claim no credit for the words though I think its a good song :-))

    Paterson

League Two target man you mean, with the Shrimpers going down?
  14. It was great to see Aaron Martin given a full 90 minutes today; I think he deserves credit for his performance. Won a lot in the air (although perhaps he needs to work on sending his defensive headers "safe" - quite a few went to yellow shirts today) and presented an authoritative figure around the box. Can't recall any real clangers. O-C came on for barely 10 minutes but looked very lively - in a similar mould to David Connolley but quicker around the pitch. Do you think we'll see much of these two next season? Perhaps Jose with Martin or Seaborne will form the nucleus of our defence; maybe O-C will start hitting the net as an impact sub? Do you see these guys becoming regular (and valuable) first team squad players? And McNish breaking through too perhaps?
  15. Adam had a quite excellent day today and was the prime difference between the teams in my opinion. Strange that he was so poor last week and had to be subbed at half time (I was not there but the feedback was all very negative). Maybe just an off day and everyone is allowed one now and again.......
  16. Manager builds team that will play to his style and method. Manager then leaves. This is a bad scenario....however we can cheer up cos its not Saints scenario. YES he's staying and next season the message is HANG ON FOR THE RIDE :-)
  17. Seagull fans are only mentioning Poyet cos they've caught onto that "nothing" rumour about Pards. Old news followed by 2+2=5.....
  18. Apparently, it rests on the technicality of whether they can get this CVA thing up and running. If they have that in place by the time they officially join the Football League then they are deemed to be "pucca". I'm afraid its rules and process ahead of subjective views and (possibly even) common sense....
  19. My view on 'Arry is that he was convinced we were a lost cause from the beginning, which was not a good way to start. The way he publicly undermined the team in every interview was cringe-worthy and it became a self-fulfilling prophecy in the end.
  20. Massive Weight ended with the draw against Oldham
  21. Agree entirely with this assessment. I think Pards' debrief to him after the match should be that the default setting is to look forward for the next pass, not back. Providing he does what the manager asks (Lloyd James might want to note this bit) then I would say he has great potential...
  22. Will be carrying it with me on Saturday - my mate has been let down by "a lady" (booo !). PM me before 9am tomorrow please, with mobile number to contact you on so we can meet before the match. Face value of course. p.s. ladies might get priority... :-)
  23. 100% agree - even from the far end of the ground (seated in South Stand behind goal) I could see the advantage being played by the ref. It was a very good and brave call and Puncheon scoring certainly justified his judgement.

    4-5-1

Last night I believe we saw, very clearly, a 4-2-3-1 formation. And very effective it was, too. Everyone knows who the back four are. Thats clear. Most of the time Hammond and Spiderman play as "first line midefield" (in front of defence). EVERYONE (especially at Brizzel) knows that Ricky is our out-and-out striker/target man. But what about the other three, Antonio, Punch and Adam? These three players are young, fit, talented and have a refreshing enthusiasm for the game. They moved, swapped, interchanged and generally caused trouble all over the park, linking in with Ricky as well as the five behind them. They played without fear and took responsibility. Not surprisingly, Rovers completely failed to tie them down - Saints soon took and retained the initiative in that area of the park and the result was we scored 5 goals - of which two came from this the attacking midfield trio. In my view, this game plan has really started to work effectively since AP has given Punch the freedom to play anywhere up front as opposed to restricting him to the wings. And that has allowed Antonio and Punch to be included in the team together, along with Adam, so all three can swap around freely between the roles. Prior to that, the option seemed to be Punch OR Antonio. Similarly I suggest it worked well at Wembley with Papa in place of Punch.....and all three of them scored. So, with the players we have, the 4-2-3-1 (or 4-5-1 as some prefer to call it) can be AWESOME when we get it really going and the opposition struggle to get a hand on it. Sadly, as has been observed, Its not easy for Lee to fit in to this formation. Conversely, the three youngsters seem to be thriving on the liberation they enjoy. For the benefit of the team, long may it continue.....but I do wonder how chuffed Lee and DC are with the new style of play!
  25. I think you'll find its all to do with the build-up....... Call it a sort of foreplay ;-) p.s. - yes I was there too row D seat 42 in the tented area; Had a diect view behind Morgan's "line of fire" into the top left corner.
