The ‘worst’ Premier League XI of the season so far
Ultimatt replied to doddisalegend's topic in The Saints
Opta have our expected goals as double what we've scored so no surprise we have a striker on the list. Surprising it's Ings, but I guess you could put any of them on there. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/nov/20/premier-league-numbers-run-furthest-missed-most-chances-12-games-statistics Bit harsh on Jack Cork. They're comparing his stats to last year where he was very good and actually covered more ground than any other player in the premier league. -
Is this their way to stop their old players tapping up their current ones?

Gazzaniga got his 1st cap for Argentina. Quite a rise for him since leaving us. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk

No. Fonte asked to leave. https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/38523114 Even if you believe Fonte that no new deal was offered, the club had every right not to offer a 33yo only halfway into his current contract a new deal. He would've been 35 at the end of his contract.

Unlikely we'd go for it but theoretically we could attract a higher caliber manager with no DoF. Total control on transfers within the set budget Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk

So we should've kept Reed in order for him to hire someone to replace him. Got it. We'll find a new DoF. There's plenty out there with resume's that show the way they've improved a clubs standing, of which our board can pick.
-
I don't get all the posts worrying about the board not knowing football. That's just not their job. They're in charge of approving budgets, branding, sponsorship etc. For anything football related they hire specialists. Scouts that know football, Coaches that know football, Physios that know football players. As for hiring for those roles it's no different to any other company out there; a C.V. and referees. We should be happy that we finally have action on two of the people responsible for our poor 1st team and U23 results the past couple of years. Much better than sacking yet another manager when that's never been the big issue.
-
Ability. Most of our players didn't succeed at previous clubs either. We lack the attacking ability to break teams down, and when we do we miss our shots. We have no experience/organisation in the back and get sliced open with ease.

We need a manager that can take over recruitment and has a record of building a team. We also need to stop buying "potential with resale value" for a couple years and get some leaders in; we have the 2nd youngest squad in the league. And we need to stop buying quantity over quality; we're not playing twice a week, we don't need 2 senior players for each position. It's recruitment that has failed us more than any manager has. What? At what point did I say JWP = Fabregas? The comparison is merely in physical attributes and style. Fabregas has been criticised throughout his career for being weak defensively, as has JWP. Fabregas could do that because he was in teams that dominated games. JWP is not at that level and imo doesn't get a game because he can't play 2 ways.
-
Fabregas shows you don't need to be quick, tall, or a ball winner that contributes defensively if you're good enough in attack. Fabregas was allowed to play that playmaking CM with no defensive duties because he's always been in top teams with players better than the opposition. JWP doesn't have that luxury and a team like ours can't afford a CM to not play both ways.

I'm more interested in your thoughts about our ambition, given we're spending that much. We must be really ambitious.
-
Quantity over quality #WeMarchOn I feel like this figure must include our loanees, we have a few away on decent packets.
-
I dunno if he has that power. They're all on the board director so theoretically it'd be a majority board decision or an owner decision.
-
Krueger is doing his job properly imo. He's focused on expanding the brand, increasing sponsorship etc. and we are seeing gains there. He's not the one responsible for on-field decisions which is where we're failing, and it's only because of Les' utter cowardliness that Ralph is being pushed in front of the fans now instead.

Bad strategy: - Long contracts to average players made them complacent. - Recruiting other clubs bench players; i'd rather a player that is unproven but has shown the potential to sign for a top team rather than a player that was let go by a big team because they weren't good enough. - Too many 1st team players (quantity over quality); competition is not always good. Some players respond negatively and get ****ed off at not playing each week. Squad harmony drops. No pathway for our youth players either. Bad coaching: - Our u23's got relegated and nothing. I think Martin Hunter even got promoted to technical director. Rewarding failure. - Kelvin Davis is in all likelihood not ready for his role. Not sure how much a GK with no coaching experience can be made 1st team coach. - Dave Watson as set piece coach. For years we've been awful at these. Nothings been done about it.
-
Spurs can't sign anyone because they have no wage budget left. They can't afford a bunch of the players they have. Got to remember their budget is closer to ours than it is to the other big 6.

3 wins in 18 league games 15 points in 18 which is 31.7pts/season (relegation form). 475 minutes since our last league goal. This season we're 6 goals scored to 14 conceded. It's looking a miracle for us to earn enough points to make us conventionally safe. We might survive only thanks to the 4 championship level teams below us. It's time for a clear out of the board. They need to be held responsible for the last 3 years of recruitment. A new manager will still need to deal with the same ineffective players. Reed and Wilson need to go first and foremost.
-
I think it's time for Reed himself to dust off that old coaching manual and take over. Come and save us with your brilliance Les!

105 goals in 168 MLS games. Shyte league but can see why he's revered.
-
Shocking pen record. He's always been a creator, not a finisher. Thrives in the right setting and flounders when his club sells their best 2 strikers Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk

If VVD was promised captaincy why was Fonte still captain until he left, even after he behaved like a knob? Since you like guesses with no proof, I'd say it's more likely Fonte didn't play Europa to not get cup tied as he wanted a January move. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk

Maybe i've forgotten history, but VVD was made captain _after_ Fonte left ? https://southamptonfc.com/news/2017-01-22/claude-puel-captains-southampton-virgil-van-dijk-steven-davis 6 months after Fonte started acting up. And more than 6 months after VVD signed his final contract. Please explain? Van Dijk was also made captain of Netherlands, was that worked into his contract too?
