Romeu is too important to the team now to keep us in the Premiership, he can't be wasted on cup matches - neither JWP or Slattery had a bad game, but neither of them are an out and out CDM like we need. Elynoussi, Austin and Long were all non-factors. Cedric wasn't great, everyone crying for him to come back has been looking at him from rose-tinted glasses in my opinion - Valery and Kayne Ramsey would not have looked out of place ahead of him. Exactly this, he's important to the club as our Captain and a solid, reliable centreback, but he is not a top 4 quality player at all, last season he had a huge number of lucky escapes when he was caught short.

I think its fair to say that it was a strong Newcastle team, and we can be happy with a draw, but could have got the win. Not a great performance, with Targett and Cedric's defensive frailty shown up. Definitely positives though in Martina, Pelle and Mane's work to create chances.

If that attacking lineup pays off we're in for an absolute treat.

Personally pretty excited to see what Djuricic does with this start, I think he's looked bright recently.

Pelle was really impressive today, making an effort to run onto through balls and moving Villa's back four around - proper centre forward stuff to make room for Mane and Long. I don't think I need to speak for Long and Mane, absolutely out of this world from them both. They seemed to have a lot more freedom to move out of position, like against Chelsea, and were absolutely unplayable! Big shout out to Gazza, did some excellent shot stopping today, definitely has potential.
