It really doesn't matter whether it was lazy (your interpretation, not mine) or not, just that he did it in the first place. Plus, are we really expecting him to fling himself out in front of a shot that, according to some, should have been saved by Forster? He did the right thing and was unlucky. That doesn't make him poor for yesterday's goal.

You're working under a very cynical assumption there. Do you have any evidence to back it up? Considering that the board have spent heavily this summer, I'm not so sure you're right in suggesting they're penny pinching when it comes to the delay in giving Cork a new contract. In my opinion, it's about giving Jack an incentive to perform and improve his game. There's absolutely no point in rushing in and giving him a pay rise when come January he may be surplus to requirements. It's a sensible strategy from the board and Jack, being an astute professional, is probably under no illusions as to what's happening. Is he likely to kick off as other players have done? As much as I would like to see him stay with Southampton, I wouldn't be too comfortable if it's in the place of a different and more beneficial player.

I can't get my head around Luke Shaw's fitness because in the overwhelming majority of games for us last season, it was never an issue. And I mean that in the sense that fans never even considered that he might be unfit. Perhaps it is a case of Shaw letting himself go or struggling to adapt to Van Gaal's training regime. Maybe he's always had a fitness problem or, as Roy says, is yet to fill out properly. I just hope it all ends up going in the right direction for him - it's always a bit disheartening to see players go the way of Michael Johnson. Even more so when they've been such an asset for Southampton and the academy.

A few figures regarding Gaston's wages have been thrown about and, if they are to be believed, I wonder if that would figure into any transfer decisions. Also, it's hardly like he's starting any games and he hasn't settled. Yet, as those above have said, he's a creative player (something of a rarity at St Mary's at the moment) and has he really shown his potential? I think I would be a bit disappointed if he were to go without a new replacement.

If you really wanted to stop them publishing this kind of article then you'd stop reposting the link and raising awareness about it. And in any case, don't be so sensitive. It's a compliment that our younger players are consistently linked with moves to bigger clubs.
