2-2 is a result I will deffo take especially as had Vardy scored it could have been worse. Again, a shame that Leicester have pulled away from us in terms of resources and stature the last few years because they are a solid PL team now. So begrudgingly, a draw is not the worst. They’ll beat some of our other bottom half rivals away from home I’m sure. Brighton is a game we should definitely target, they’ve not won in 9 games I think I saw, win that I’d say its been a successful week.

What is it with Maddison and always scoring against us And always some sort of near post goal.

@trousers let’s stop tempting fate! Less table, more nuns please!

Macca needs dropping 1 save against Watford should not mean he gets the whole season... He shouldn’t be spilling that back into the danger zone.
-
It was his quotes about us when he was at Liverpool and just generally his association with the Scousers too. A good manager mind but has this aura of smugness about him.
-
Well done Bednarek! I didn’t want him to start in fairness but you can’t knock a right place, right time goal. Now keep that clean sheet!
-
20-0 really does no one favours. I think for the women's game to evolve they should use a smaller pitch or smaller goals - cricket uses smaller boundaries, it might make it more competitive.

I don't have the best feeling for this game but I have it in me that all 3 results are possible Leicester seem to just have our number recently home and away, we have 1 win in 6 home games against them and it's time for our annual Winter collapse to begin if it already hasn't... I think we will dominate them but lose 1-0 in a Leicester smash and grab...

I am here and today’s performance has been as bad as I can remember it. Saint’s fans though I applaud for being loud amidst this shite performance.

I’m on the way up to Liverpool now, got the 10:01 from Euston and surprisingly I’ve not come across any Southampton fans. However, the train is packed with Liverpool fans!!! I didn’t think it was true but gosh it looks like there is at least a solid 1-2k who commute from London!

Ralph Hasenhuttl on Jack Stephens: "He is back in training after injury, and it is great to have him back. There is no need to rush him." Ralph Hasenhuttl on Southampton's record at Liverpool: "We can't deny that Anfield is not the best place for us. I remember the 4-0 there, my first time taking a team there, wasn't as bad as the result suggests. We have won once against them, at home, and we can speak about them at the moment. When you see Liverpool at the moment, they are coming back to their best." Ralph Hasenhuttl on Southampton's record at Liverpool: "We can't deny that Anfield is not the best place for us. I remember the 4-0 there, my first time taking a team there, wasn't as bad as the result suggests. We have won once against them, at home, and we can speak about them at the moment. When you see Liverpool at the moment, they are coming back to their best." Hasenhuttl on Southampton's chances this weekend: "I don't know what Liverpool changed in the summer but it seems like they found their way of playing and their identity again. It makes it very difficult to take something against such a side, but it is not impossible. I've seen Brighton take a point after being two goals down, and in 99 of 100 games they'd lose that game. We have shown against big teams that we can be a threat and cause them some issues; this is what we've done all season. Hasenhuttl on whether he will shed tears if he gets a result, like in January: "I don't think so, but lets talk about that later. It is always a pleasure to play against Jurgen Klopp's teams, and it is always one of the biggest challenges you can imagine in football, super tough. Now, with the crowd, it is even harder at Anfield." On the reaction after defeat to Norwich: "We had a day off on Monday, then from Tuesday onwards we've been preparing for one of the toughest games you can imagine, watching the opponent last night, (Klopp) has saved some players for the weekend. It shows you a little bit about the focus they have for the Premier League this season." Hasenhuttl on facing Jurgen Klopp: "It is hard to compare our teams because they are at a different level. We are in the same league, I don't want to talk about the Formula One but when you race the top cars, you need good turns to not let them pass. You need everything to get something there, but I can guarantee one thing, we will be brave." More from Hasenhuttl on the task ahead: "It is better not to waste energy thinking about how it would feel (to get a result). We must first let that happen. But you need everything: the perfect tactics, the perfect referee, scoring a goal at the right moment, having an unbelievable goalkeeper. Everybody needs to be at the highest level." Hasenhuttl on James Ward-Prowse's 200th appearance: "First of all, congratulations to him; 200 is quite massive. It took a while when I arrived for him to become part of the first XI. I spoke clearly with him about what I demanded, and he showed it quickly. You have seen the progress he's made in the last two or three years. What I like about this player is that when you criticise him, he is very quick to improve. He is open-minded and willing to learn." Hasenhuttl on competition for places in his squad and the goalkeeping situation: "Every player is under pressure to show their best; if they weren't, we wouldn't be doing a good job. Alex (McCarthy) didn't show his best performance last week; there is no discussion, he knows it, I know it. It is the situation for a goalkeeper; he makes a mistake, it is a goal. But he has made unbelievable saves and has done a great job this season. But he knows he has to show up; two or three bad games is not good for staying in the team."

Easy. Gasworks. we can charge fans £200 or similar to avoid drinking with the “great unwashed”.
-
Liverpool can expect to earn c. £2.5m I think if they win- I expect a fairly strong team from Klopp tomorrow

Fair theory but if that is the case then why isn’t Ralph doing something about it?!?! Can we not save some steam for the 2nd half then? It just seems like stupid game management, surely there is a way of adapting?! It’s one thing if the likes of City/Chelsea/Liverpool turn us over in the second half, but when Norwich are doing it, it’s somewhat disheartening. I don’t want to nitpick now and play the “what if” game because it can be played either way i.e. City away / JWP red card but what if Dan James had scored for Leeds or McCarthy didn’t make that Watford save at the end.
-
I'd take 7 points now I think. At the same time though I can also see us with 4 draws and a defeat...
-
I’m going to Anfield for first time ever but before Norwich game I was quite excited and now my mood is more “damage limitation”... However, they have a midweek fixture at Porto, Brighton managed something too so as usual can only hope to get anything from this everyone needs to be 10/10. McCarthy Tino - Bednarek - Salisu - KWP Stu Arm - JWP - Romeu - Redmond Adams - Armstrong Subs to definitely use = Tella/Broja and then either Lyanco/Diallo for some tactical flexibility . Early day ahead for anyone taking the 10am from Euston
-
Has McCarthy actually signed a new contract then? I hope we have at least slashed his pay by half if we have the intention of making him our 2nd choice. If we weren't to offer either him or Forster a contract, how many takers would either have at a PL club on their current salaries?
-
I think the balanced view is today's result isn't purely down to Macca in goal, but Ralph should take a fair share of the blame too. Yes McCarthy could have done better, defenders could have marked better and we could go on for days. My criticism for Ralph is more to do with the game management today- what is he seeing in Walcott, why isn't Tella playing, why is our attacking "automatisms" failing this season? Unfortunately, our wins cannot always be 1-0, we don't have the defence of 2014-15/2015-16 to manage that. I'm not calling for his head, but just stating what was observed today.

I'm just surprised that these players even want to live here considering the shithole that some posters think Southampton is! Could have had a morning stroll here instead.

Lyanco lives in Ocean Village I think Steven Davis lived in Winchester I'd like to think majority will be in either the New Forest somewhere, Ocean Village or Winchester/Eastleigh way. You won't find them around Millbrook/Shirley I don't think!
