The Athletic article about Saints' mystery injuries around 60mins
nta786 replied to Saint NL's topic in The Saints
As with football, he was snapped up to write for the bigger club. If I remember correctly, Carl also used to frequent here and gave out the odd 30 day pass. -
I remember people around me saying Fonte wouldn't be cut out for the PL but that he would. Great player in the promotion season

I’m sure we could fill 40k if we charged £15 a pop rather than the avg £50 we charge these days, going as high as £89 for the Kingsland Premium. Coventry sold out fairly quickly at those prices. I’d have loved a super stadium similar to those mock up pictures that MLG used to post but we’ll have to make do with 32k.

I think lots of people have ignored the fact that Broja will be exposed to European football next season when we win the FA Cup

The Minsk Memorial Thread (and continuation of his work)
nta786 replied to Minsk's topic in The Saints
I'm also more than happy to chip in where I can to continue Minsk's work and in his honour, so here goes: Match Day 24 - Manchester United 1-1 Saints Match Day Comparison: Last season we drew 1-1 at home to Chelsea, if anyone remembers included Minamino's wonderful strike. Therefore, as a result we've not made any gains as we have matched that result for match no. 24. -1 points; +1 GD Head-to-Head Comparison: Last season we don't need to go there, but we can add the amount we lost by to the running GD right? +16 points; +22 GD Next up on Match Day 25 is a home trip to Everton at home. Last season, our 25th matchday we lost 3-0 away to Leeds (I recall us scoring a FK at the end of the half but referee blowing the whistle early), so anything here is an improvement match-day wise. Last season's Head to Head was a decent 2-0 win at home to Everton, so should we win Saturday then we won't make up any ground on the head-to-head.- 278 replies

It is definitely Pep. Or Tuchel, he did win CL which exceeded expectations. Reed wanted him I think at some point if I recall but Dortmund was his next logical step.

This is Frank Lampard's record against us as manager (the 7:5 is to due Derby beating us 5-3 on pens) I don't think this will be too easy, we've had 3 amazing results in past 3 PL games, we'll need some luck as I am worried about the Richarlison counter-attack. However, if we can get some luck ourselves to race into a 2 goal lead that would be nice.

Tammy Abraham also scored 15 goals for Chelsea in 2019-20. He also currently has 11 goals in Serie A, but isn't being talked about as coming back for Chelsea in the same vein. Really what they are after is that 20+ goalscorer, hence why they spent £97.5m on Lukaku. I'm not sure Broja has that in his locker just yet, but there is certainly potential. All the best teams that win the league have had that, I'd argue City last season was an exception. If I was Chelsea I wouldn't sell him, after all there is 4 years left on that contract and they'd have to pay over the odds for a player they already have. Chelsea should loan him one more time with a high loan fee and a potential recall clause.

Safe standing just seems completely pointless at this moment in time. It doesn't appear that you would get an increase in capacity by implementing it, so you'd have to spend a large amount for an area which fans would expect for cheaper with no real gains. From a business point of view unless things change there isn't too much of a need just yet. Back to Semmens interview, I do think it is a breath of fresh air, as fans I appreciate the honesty etc but I am worried we might be giving our secrets/strategy away. Similar happened when we were doing well in 2013-2016 and Les Reed was talking about all his Blackbox formulas etc etc and then our scouting went to pot. I just hope we wrap up our transfers early now with our new owners due to being in a better financial position as there are 19 other PL clubs who could stump us for anyone we are linked with.

Are you advocating then a player never takes a shot from 25 to 35 yards? If we take the statistics out of it then yes I'm sure a pass is always on, but then we'd never see some of the great moments that do come out of nowhere. Sometimes it is more satisfying when you do score out of nothing, or in your terms when you beat the "xG" for any given opportunity. Should JWP float the ball into the box or pass it to someone far right when he gets a set piece? Or is that different to a long shot? Football would be a very robotic sport if every player made the right decisions at the right time, it'd be like 2 supercomputers playing chess against each other

Is John McGinn suspended for this one?

https://www.southamptonfc.com/news/2022-02-12/southampton-fc-update-on-progress-of-the-new-big-screens-at-st-marys "Southampton Football Club would like to make fans aware of the progress being made to install new big screens at St Mary’s, as part of the club’s investment in improving the matchday experience for fans. The new state-of-the-art screens will be double the size of the current displays and will be integrated with the wider stadium infrastructure, including the concourse screens, pitch-side boards, floodlights, kiosks and even our official club app. As a result of the thorough structural investigation and calculation work that has had to be undertaken to ensure that the installation of the screens is completed to the correct standards, the club regrets to inform supporters that there has been an unforeseen delay in the installation. The club has been working hard to find a solution and can reassure fans that the installation of the new screens will be going ahead as part of an ongoing programme of work to update the stadium and improve the experience our fans have at St Mary’s. The club would like to apologise to fans for the unavoidable delay to the installation of new screens and we’d like to thank them for their patience as we look to provide the best possible matchday experience for our supporters."

Foxestalk - apparently all Rodgers fault for making that substitution and that it was bringing Jannik on that cost the game. I thought I'd check his Instagram too and turns out you can't comment on his page either 😬 Bloke must be the most hated man in Leicester right now

Anyone else used to be avid reader of The Pink? My favourite and I never forget the “Guess The Ball” competition my dad would enter every week and him asking for my input.
-
Harsh on Stu, I thought he was excellent, there was a lot of off the ball running which made space for others to recycle the ball too, worked tirelessly considering the shift he put in against Spurs. If we had to be critical, his shooting boots weren't quite on yesterday but he gets into my first XI every day of the week.
-
He’s only got 1 against us in fact, in about 9 appearances. He has scored more against others. We are 3rd on Dele Alli’s list though, he has scored 5 against us, and 6 against Chelsea/Watford
-
Looking forward to this one, the team that played as they did for Spurs away/Utd away this week would win. Richarlison is an annoying whiny pest, would love Stephens to do a number on him and whine him up. The one club Richarlison has scored the most against is both us and Wolves (5 goals). Other than that, same team as this week - if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

Yep nor can I. Only thing I can say is that it sold out at premium member level so we should have the fairly regular contingent, it would surprise me if United fans are buying premium memberships for our club to get tickets (or maybe not!) I know a United fan who says its not impossible to get tickets for OT these days with a premium membership compared to previous years, mainly due to them being crap but you still need to be alert. To answer the VAR question - Jarred Gillett is the VAR ref - he was in charge for our 3-0 defeat at the Emirates this season, and refereed the Villa 3-3 Leeds game the other day.

Having a quick browse on Redcafe and a lot of them aren’t confident at all! https://www.redcafe.net/matches/manchester-united-vs-southampton.440/ Would never have thought their fans would ever be worried in a home game against Southampton. Same team as the one that started Spurs for me. Again, I think we will have our chances but they’ll have their individual moments I’m sure of it. I am quietly confident, but I don’t want to misplace it for arrogance. All I do know is I am bloody excited

Correct. The likes of Liverpool play Mane/Salah/VVD/Trent/Robertson/Fabinho in CL games then immediately again in PL games. It makes me wonder why some of ours can't do that in one-off weeks like this one. One thing I do think is that perhaps good players take a 1-0/2-0 lead in the first half then don't need to exert as much pressure to see off games, or because they are better they make less mistakes technically, so naturally the physical exertions are less too. You can tell we did put in a lot last night, got a really good 2nd wind from somewhere to see off the game.

Just back from the game, so glad to have witnessed that live and the atmosphere for when Adams scored was pure joy, our away end erupted. Everyone was class really, and we fully deserved the 3 points. Anything less would have been a travesty. Our fans were in great jovial spirits too, around 25th minute mark Spurs had a corner and we were delaying play by a minute keeping the ball, then throwing it onto pitch when Reguilon about to take it! Also at some point in Block 118, someone got hit by a glass beer bottle and despite calls for the stewards they did nothing about it. After just watching highlights and Conte’s touchline antics and some foul Spurs play, as well giving it back to their “Yid army” fans, I can’t tell you how satisfying tonight was. One last picture to post: Up The Saints!!!

The team that Heung Min-Son has scored most against in his career is us too - 11 goals. I think we’re also 4th or 5th in Kane’s list from memory. Annoying as I hate em so much but they have our number a load of times.
-
I mean, it is slightly odd that he said it now but I always thought after 2024 he would leave us anyway to be honest. However, what has surprised me is that he has hinted at retirement! I always thought he would follow, albeit whilst he is older/similar than Klopp and Tuchel, a similar path to them i.e. spend 5-7 years for a smaller club (both did Mainz), before getting their big opportunities. I have no doubt in my mind that if by 2024 he has us playing a good style of football and finishing in the top 8, that a big-6 club or a big German team would take him on. Yes he lost 9-0 twice, and yes we've not quite finished in the top half, but it takes a certain type of character to come back from those lows.
-
Kane, Son, Alli, Eriksen always used to trouble us, Lloris would become a worldbeater too. If there is anyone I feel would beat us against the run of play, Spurs is it over the last few years or so. I'm predicting a heartbreak defeat for this. However, 2 pts would be a good return next two games, but if I was forced to choose between winning on Wednesday or winning this Saturday, I'd pick winning at Old Trafford every time.

Yep, and he bottled giving Mane a 2nd yellow for a clear dive!
