Europa League 2016/2017 (Died 8/12/2016)
USA SaintsFan replied to ScepticalStan's topic in The Saints
There is a slight, slight chance that I may be able to on the away trip to Prague. -
Why so much pessimism? We have essentially lost three starting players and a fringe player. We have replaced with two quality signings, and have strengthened the squad by adding to strong backup players. I am certain we are looking to bring in at least one more attacker in during the window! The board and manager aren't idiots, they must realize we lack some attacking options.

Just **** off. That is all.

Saints Won, Watford 1.....Post match meltdown

I noticed that despite Deeney having a five meter advantage once in the second half, Van Dijk, not exactly our fastest player, ran him down with apparent ease. -

Decent performance, I think if we had found a winner the story would be a bit different on here. No need to write off the system after one game, especially considering it isn't as bad as many are making it sound. Very poor start, I write that down to nerves, and adjusting to the new system, playing against PL opposition for the first time with the diamond. I really like Hojbjerg and Redmond, and Pied was surprisingly energetic and solid for the little time he was on the pitch. Our back four was hardly troubled for most of the game, despite missing two definite starting players, and arguably two of the most solid performers in our squad. Miles ahead of where we were, defensively, at the start of last season. Forster had no chance on the goal, and the only other meaningful task was to clear Yoshida's back-"pass." Midfield will be better with Hojbjeg starting, he showed that he is by a mile our most talented midfielder, although it has not been determined if he will be the most consistent one. Long and Redmond did well, but I would like in the future to see one of them swap for Austin. We need more height in the attack. Two attacking additions, or even only one, will make this squad solid. I am sure the club knows this, and there is still half a month in the window left. Did anyone notice the referee's reluctance to blow the whistle? I counted four penalty shouts for us, with varying degrees of blatancy. Two shirt pulls, including one that could have prevented long from scoring. A suspiciously clumsy tackle on Long, resulted on the defender shoving him off the ball, and proceeding to land on top of him. How is Long supposed to stay up? And another, in which the defender changed his run in order to make contact with Hojbjerg. No attempt to play the ball whatsoever. Last thing, the commentators here in the States were weirdly infuriating. Completely obsessed with Watford. Apparently in the first half it was "men against boys," in favor of Watford, despite them only taking one meaningful attempt on our goal. -
Calm down first game ffs. Controlled every from 30 minutes onwards. Unlucky not to have a penalty or a goal off Long's chance, and another good penalty shot a few minutes onwards. Redmond poor in opening stages put has grown into the game. Long has been threatening.

Since "Sixteen groups of 4 teams will be organised on a regionalised basis," does that mean our U23s are very likely to draw Pompey?
-
OK then. I presumed those would be the two most likely options. What would you suggest?
-
Do you think we will play a 4-3-1-2, demonstrated in the DC United friendly, or a 4-3-3? I am unfamiliar with Puels record as a manger, but would like to see the same system as last year. We have two talented wingers, Tadic and Redmond, and playing a 4-3-1-2, and relying on the full backs for width, would not suit them the slightest.
-
Totally agree, complete legend! Should we have a poll, or would it be unanimous?

Everyone in Europe just got 10% more expensive.

Not looking forward to this one...

Lallana in scuffed wide shot shocker...

What a delusional rant. No ambition, then why have we improved our league position the last seven years in a row? And just because you have a new shareholder doesn't mean everything is guaranteed to be rosy for you. Throwing money around never guarantees success! (As demonstrated by Liverpool, Manchester United, QPR, Newcastle.) I don't care if I support a "small club," at least we are doing exciting things, not struggling in mid-table. Leicester would be called a "small club" aswell, by your reasoning. Punching above your weight is never a problem. On another note, at least we are the biggest club in our city.

Southampton Central instagram account. They have a picture aswell.

Everton reportedly accidently uploaded an article on their OS stating "#welcomekoeman: blues appoint Ronald Koeman as new Everton manager." It was quickly removed.
-
Am I right in believing that, IF we qualify for Europa League, our coeffecient will be slightly higher due to qualifying last year?
-
I would like to see Romeu tried in the AM role. In a few games he has shown he has the aggressiveness and talent to play as a box to box midfielder.
-
A tricky run-in could potentially be a lot easier: -City should be distracted by the UCL - IF Leicester have already wrapped up the title by the time we play Tottenham, they will have much less to play for. - Palace will have one eye on the Cup final the next weekend, and are only playing for mid table positions. If we are on top form, I would say Europa League is not entirely unlikely.
-
Where do you think the team will be off to this summer? I would think the United States would be likely, as the "soccer schools" program and Under Armour partnership hint to an expansion into the US market.

Mane and Vic coming on...

Watched Spurs vs "MLS Allstars" here in the states last year. Practically home field for Spurs, could hear their fans singing OWTS. Very annoying... Went to the see Arsenal vs. Saints Boxing Day match at a local pub. Saints fans were singing OWTS, and the guy next to me says something like "Southampton sings that aswell? Isn't that Tottenham's song?"

I went to Legends bar twice last season when I was in NYC. They have a section just football called the football factory, was full of fans, especially for the 10 am kickoff. I know there is a supporters group that goes there, try talking with NYC Saint on the forum.
