What would be successful damage limitation?
Unbelievable Jeff replied to shurlock's topic in The Saints
But what mistakes have they made so far? Pochettino resigned after offering him a new contract, there's nothing they can do about that. -

That's an absolut ****-ton of gold, from what I've heard. -
What a moron. How many clubs keep their fans updated when a Manager is in negotiations with another club. I'll give you the time to go and have a scout around, but the answer is NONE. I'm really not sure what people expect.
-
Let's not beat around the bush, this is a great job for a manager to come into, and I think a lot of good managers will be interested. We are a top 8 Premier League team with the players to push on. We're the fit bird next door, and a lot of people like to look over the fence.
-
The club is worth more as a complete entity, so I think it's safe to say this isn't happening. In addition to this she'd have stopped work on the training ground etc, not employed a new board etc.
-
Why would they until it's a done deal? What happens if they announce he is in talks with Spurs, and the talks fall through? Fans will have been ******ed off that Pochettino wanted talks, and then they'd have to forget that he wanted to leave. What other clubs have announced that their Manager is in talks with another club when they've been poached.

Yeah, I agree. It's just a shame, that's all. We will see what the board are really about now though.
-
Urrgghhh, I don't want to do this but I agree with you GS. I think he will also try and say he didn't know what was happening with the board to pass the responsibility, even though I personally think the board have done their best. I guarantee also that NC has advised Poch on doing this.

Clyne on Poch and Uncertainty in Squad
Unbelievable Jeff replied to Saint Charlie's topic in The Saints
As I said to you previously (you seem to keep going on about it even though I admitted it was over the top), I learnt from my mistakes, whereas you seem to be the complete opposite. I have grown, you seem to have regressed, but then that's what teen hormones do to you. -
So this whole thread is a 'I don't think Kat will invest as much money now as the previously unsustainable spending'? With that I agree, and I don't blame her for that.

A very good letter on the F365 Mailbox this morning - pretty much cums up my feeling on the situation in general: http://www.football365.com/mailbox/9327429/Mails 1) Spurs are only a minor step up. There are only a few of their players I'd take over the existing Saints squad. I'd understand more if it was for a CL team. He would have done better to get Saints into Europe (feasible) and go to a big club next season. 2) He introduced a cerebral philosophy to the club which all players bought into. Attacking with geggenpressing. His replacement must be of a similar way of coaching. Murat Yakin would be ideal although I realise that CL clubs will probably have first dibs on him. Cortese always spoke about 'The Southampton Way'. If this is it then the good work must be continued even if the board see it as another man's vision. 3) Poch's key attribute was his ability to keep the team in place. Shaw is great money for a teenager, take it. I would say keep Lallana at all costs but I can understand that at 26 it is now or probably never for a CL club. After that we need to fight to keep Lovren, Schneiderlein, J-Rod, Clyne etc. the only way they can go is for extortionate fees. We don't need the money and they are under long term contracts (which works both ways...if they broke their leg and took 2 years to get form back they would still get paid). 4) Poch wasn't the messiah. The right coach at the right time - yes, but not the only one who can bring success. His record in the transfer market was iffy. Lovren was an excellent signing but Wanyama still has much to prove and Osvaldo...well, a violent disaster is an appropriate term. 5) If we get Tim Sherwood I will cry. It would be like the idiot kids who used to phone Saturday morning swapshop trying to trade a Chopper for a Space Hoppper. 6) Chin up...4 players in the U19 England squad. Plenty more talent on the way. Jon, Southampton

Clyne on Poch and Uncertainty in Squad
Unbelievable Jeff replied to Saint Charlie's topic in The Saints
That's not an answer. Give me some dates. The rest of the team are away, why shouldn't he be? At least in this situation we can't accept any offers if he is integral to that decision. -
No idea, I think I saw it somewhere. Probably not true mind.
-
Exactly this. If he goes and we bring in Lennon, Mackay or Hughton, then I'll be very annoyed and will agree the board doesn't know what they're doing. But until then I think they deserve the benefit of the doubt.

Clyne on Poch and Uncertainty in Squad

When should he go on holiday then? How about at the beginning of July when everyone will want players bringing in? Or in 2 weeks when the search and interviews are on for a new Manager. -

Wow, this is really clutching at straws Saint Charlie. The article is about being linked with other clubs, and if other clubs were to come in and buy players then they don't know if they'd be accepted or not. What I love most of all is that all through Cortese's reign they declined to respond to speculation (positive or negative). We have made one statement saying our players are not for sale and we wouldn't welcome any bids and then silence, yet now this is unprofessional? We never announced when we had received an offer for Oxlade Chamberlain, so why now? I actually think this is the most difficult Summer for a Saints board ever, with so many teams wanting our players, our manager wanting to move on and improve himself, all against the backdrop of a 'difficult' financial situation (we just have to be sustainable now and stay within FFP). Then add to that the ridiculous over-reaction by a lot of fans who seem to have VERY short memories when it comes to being a smaller club and you can see they've got a lot to deal with. -
Is that Kelvin's brother?

He's a good manager!

Hysterical reaction to no news...
Unbelievable Jeff replied to Unbelievable Jeff's topic in The Saints
Certainly not! Why would you be? Are we going bust in league 1 again? No, thought not. -
It would be if I were him.

Don't blame Kat, blame Poch.
