Anyone got a live possession stat? I’m worried it’s below 80%

Does Russell Martin have better hair than Stuart Armstrong?
leeham_69 replied to Stripey McStripe Shirt's topic in The Saints
Better? No. Wetter? Definitely. -
Bugger all working from aus too. Sadly time for bed. Hope they turn it around.

I do hope Rusty works out and we go up. It feels like a grown up is back in charge. He is likeable and sensible.

I will never forget the goal he scored first game of the season in the Championship. You just knew it was going to be a good year the way we played that day.

He comes very highly recommended (by 9 out of 10 dentists)

We do need a replacement for Mo El in this regard so could be a crucial signing

that first one is a lovely modernisation of the 2000 kit - i think the first Friends Provident kit. I like the stripes on the second but would be better with the black collar. I personally wish we would bring back Umbro. Our two promotion kits were excellent and even our PL return kit was nice for a change (red with white pin stripes). I feel Umbro "get it" more than most manufacturers.

I got 99.36% in my calculations, not sure if i've made an error or i'm a hopeless optimist.

also at 55 minutes they can announce the arrival of mislav orsic to stadium wide applause as he waves to the crowd for 45 seconds then goes back to the dressing room.
-
definitely - decent turn and finish in the box, just at the wrong end.

Wolves under jones. I don't think I've ever seen a team so afraid of winning and contrive to lose so convincingly.

Apologies if this has already been shared but quite interesting. At first I thought we had the shoddiest facilities going around but as the chap explains the away rooms are deliberately designed to be as uncomfortable as possible - quite funny. Apparently 6 eps in total but haven't watched the others.

This popped up in my news feed so I thought I’d share. To be honest I barely registered his presence at the club. The article, in true NJ style, implies the fault lied exclusively with the recruitment and the players not having any PL experience and that all the coaches are actually brilliant. Never mind that the same players immediately improved after those coaches left despite being managed by a man with no senior managerial experience whatsoever! gosh I’ve found myself much angrier at the end of this post than the start. anyway. Systems vs aggression vs creativity vs workrate - why choose?
leeham_69 replied to SaintJackoInHurworth's topic in The Saints
I've felt since Ralph days that we are so clear about what to do when we are out of possession but don't seem to have a clear plan for what to do in possession. I agree that the focus on the system has sucked the players' capacity for individual decision making, initiative, flair and frankly taking responsibility. I specifically find that our players movement off the ball when our team is in possession is terrible. We are a long way behind every other team in terms of simply moving into space, presenting for the ball, our forwards making runs to either receive the ball OR draw defenders away from the ball. How often do we see our CBs and our CMs standing there with the ball at their feet and their hands raised asking where the pass is? The same is true for throw-ins - everyone is stationary. I think the press is a permanent part of modern football when out of possession but we really need to work on dynamism, off-ball movement and, god forbid, a mentality to actually entertain the fans. They are too drilled in too small an aspect of playing and winning. -
And some of them are old enough to be in nappies again now!

that forum was so funny. they're obviously not very well informed about just how bad we are. This was my highlight:

Great thread! For me I think: Bednarek Armstrong Ellyounoussi Some of the others at least have the nerve to trick you into thinking they might offer something, either because they're young or haven't been here very long. When you see these guys names on the sheet you just know they aren't going to offer anything, and with the exception of Bednarek probably won't even produce major calamity. They will just be tediously and inevitably ineffective. Can we have a "who is our worst player" poll so at least someone in the squad can win something??
-
This is now the most interesting and important thread here I reckon. obviously we all think jones should go and by Monday could well be - but that obviously leaves the question of who? we are not an appealing proposition atm - some good names on the list above but why would you come? Likely we would offer a contract until the end of the season with a huge bonus if they keep us up, which I think is what we did with Hughes. With Hughes we then made the mistake of extending his contract but it is a tricky situation where if they do keep us up other clubs may want them and thus we lose out on someone good or we may feel we should stick with them without taking a long term view and be back to square one when their managerial style turns out to be suitable for nothing other than finishing 17th. This is the tricky side of sacking Jones - not whether he should go or not, but what do we actually do instead of him? I would say this is the guiding reason behind why he hasn't got the sack - I can't believe clubs just sack someone without having at least informal conversations with other candidates first. It COULD be interesting to see, given SRs willingness to spend money, whether we can attract a higher profile manager for a short period than previously through pure financial means.

largely unrelated but I think Martin Semmens and Ashley Giles were separated at birth
-
I guess it makes sense from the simplistic point of view of getting all of your best players on the pitch together - ABK, DCC and Salisu definitely being 3 of our better performers in exchange for one of our less purposeful "attacking" midfielders. But yeah - it has never worked, it's never looked threatening, it's never helped in any way.
-
I know we're dead last but isn't it nice to not be absolutely skint anymore? If we were in this position in any of the previous seasons pre-takeover we would have had to sell JWP to panic buy or more likely do nothing at all.

I wondered if they might loan him somewhere with an agreed fee and a clause for if we come back up in one season. Agree he won’t be playing in the championship and nor should he.
