Suspect PSV will settle for a lower fee with a hefty sell-on clause.
-
Maitland-Niles on loan with an option to buy is best of both worlds, if he's naff then just leave him be but gives us an extra body in a few places. If he turns out to be decent then we've got a ready-made player to buy next season. I wonder if we will make use of our second loan slot?

Wasn't this the journo that broke the "we all hate Ralph" story? Not sure how reliable he is after that.

Obviously a great performance and result, the thing I find most interesting though is the tactics and the coaching. 4231 is new for us, and I can't remember the last time JWP played as a 10, but it worked very well to stop their midfield dictating play. In the first half, I thought Elyounoussi, Diallo and Armstrong were our worst players playing a poor game (particularly Armstrong who, deflected goal aside, could barely make a 5 yards pass). But after the break, these three were transformed and were probably our best performers. I expect that with the new coaching staff made up of actual coaches, they were able to get some better advice and pointers at half-time that turned their games around.

Gonna be hilarious when they sack Lampard and suddenly don't want to play a 5 man midfield.
-
Hopefully just a pulled hammy for Lavia, he's been outstanding. Fortunate to have JWP available to drop back into his best position.

I suspect any deal for Gakpo will be at a lower fee than PSV are after (reportedly €50m) but with a chunky sell-on clause. If he's expecting to come here for a season or two before moving on to one of the big boys, that would make the most sense. As an aside, Rik Elfrink is PSV's mouthpiece journalist. Anything from him can be assumed to have come directly from PSV.

Not sure Brownhill would be a Romeu replacement. He's more of a Steven Davis type.
-
Brownhill was excellent at Bristol City, and as a part-time Robins fan I was gutted when we went to Burnley, where he was predictably poorly-utilised. Underrated but good player, he'd improve our squad for sure.

Hudson-Odoi off to Leverkusen on loan.
-
Payne starting apparently. He's a RB I think.

Up to 12th! Nosebleed territory!
-
CHEEEE Don't you dare sell him to Leeds for £10m you bastards!
-
How did that get past the wall?? Poor wall building.

Good game this, enjoyable to watch. The new boys have all been decent, particularly ABK and Lavia, but Mara and Aribo have been impressive too. I'm also certain we'd be 1-0 down if McCarthy had played. Moi and Armstrong have been poor, and Djenepo has been very hot-and-cold but I can't hold that against him really, he's not a LB. I'd like to see Adams and Stu on at some point in the second half, but I think Ralph will be pretty pleased with that first half.

Baffling playing AA in a match against a PL team, to be honest.
-
I would be very surprised if we're not at least on the hunt for a full back. One injury to KWP (and he picks up a couple a season) and we're paddleless on poo lagoon.
-
I imagine we weren't willing to just take him on loan for a year with no chance of buying him outright - most other clubs probably feel the same.
-
Other way around - he can only play in a back 5 and Wolves have switched to a 4. I think that says a lot about the abilities of an England player.
-
Shame to see Stephens leave, and I'm a bit surprised to see him going to a Championship. He was very good for us at the beginning of last season and unfortunate to lose his place (I think he got injured or suspended?). He'd be a good choice for any of the lower set of PL teams.
-
I think if the ref had given it as a red, VAR wouldn't have overturned it and Leeds would be down to 10.
-
I thought Perraud was back? Wasn't he on the bench last week?
-
Watkins would be great, good finisher there and very mobile. I wonder if Brentford have a sell-on clause? Could push the price up.

Maybe let's wait and see how this goes before we start slating the formation? Last season everybody was complaining about the rigid sticking to 4222 and now we're trying something different and that's a bad thing...
