I expected us to finish 12th, so we're doing well so far thanks to overachieving early on. Making the most of it too, personally, as I cant help feeling we're heading for all sorts of problems off the pitch over the summer (such as takeover talks, looking for a new manager, keeping our best players etc.)
-
I do. Every time Saints play a match I want them to win. I want them to go on a phenomenal run and to be regarded by everyone as the most exciting team in the league, and I want to see at least two of our players finish the season in such awesome form that Hodgson has no choice but to take them to Brazil. Season ended Saturday my ar5e!

My main concern going in to this match, knowing the way Sunderland play, was injuries to key players, so I was relieved to see Boruc being rested but a bit concerned that we were risking Lallana and Shaw. Still, we came through it unscathed so no harm done. Persnally, I completely agree with Poch that we really don't want to find ourselves in the Europa cup next season, so it's all about the league and finishing 7th-9th for me.

I think England need at least 3 Saints players in their starting 11 for every match if they want to have a chance of at least getting out of the group stages.

Arsenal vs SOUTHAMPTON Build up thread
Brave Sir Robin replied to Saint Garrett's topic in The Saints
Don't panic! If Lovren's out it just means we'll beat them 2-1 instead of 2-0! -
It doesn't seem to be a problem for Barcelona so there's no reason it should be a problem for us!

Post Match Reaction: SAINTS 0-0 West Ham
Brave Sir Robin replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
It was just one of those unfortunate days when the oppositions keeper put in the performance of his career. He looked as suprised at some of the saves he pulled off as anyone else! Any other day we would have beaten them by 2 or 3. Plenty of positives to take from the game.Yes, Wanyama had a mare, but we now have the strength in depth to have the option of replacing him with Cork if he doesn't look like he's learnt from it by the weekend. Our defence looks solid, however, and our attacking potential is awesome once things start to gel and confidence grows. Lets see where we are in 5 or 6 games. I reckon we're well on course for spending the whole season in mid table and finishing 10th to 14th. -
As this year, It'll no doubt be whichever is cheapest for the club, so as to maximise the amount we can afford to spend on players (presumably). As for the colour scheme, it wouldn't surprise me at all if we were open to wearing whatever colours our sponsors prefer, F1 style. And frankly, as long as we're still in the prem, I personally don't give a flying one!

Rickie Lambert - England Qualifiers
Brave Sir Robin replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
I reckon Rooney, Sturridge, Wellbeck and Carroll will all still be ahead of Rickie in future selections, so he needs to start scoring goals for Saints and keep his fingers crossed the others get injured next summer. Personally, I'd have him as 1st choice striker, but then I'm basing it purely on form, ability and desire, rather than the bizarre political obligations that hamper every England manager! -
Personally, I think it's entirely possible that Clyne, Shaw, Chambers, Lallana, Cork and Jay Rod will all be good enough to be England regulars by Euro 2016. Throw in a couple of really experienced players who'll give 110% (Theo and the Ox), plus another 2 or 3 young outstandingly talented youngsters who are just too good to overlook, despite their tender age (currently in our academy, identities tbc), and voila! There's an England team with more potential than the current one! I think the fa should just relax and thank Saints for solving their problem for them!

A serious transfer window review thread...
Brave Sir Robin replied to Unbelievable Jeff's topic in The Saints
I'm content with the business we've done this window. Offloading Puncheon once he started making noises about wanting out was wise imo, going on past history. Mayuka will get more match time on loan and will hopefully either come back further improved by the experience, or having had enough exposure enough to fetch a decent transfer fee. Very early days to judge the new boys, but Lovren looks like a great signing so far, Wanyama clearly has huge potential, particularly when Shaw and Clyne are both fully fit and linking up with him, and Osvaldo, well, at least has pedigree and looks like he cares! Holding on to Shaw is probably the thing I'm most excited about though. That just wouldn't have happened in any previous transfer window over the last 10 years at least, and indicates the confidence running throughout the whole club that we are serious contenders in this league and able to back up our claims that we'll continue to climb. -
Lol! 1 narrow defeat and all of a sudden we've apparently wasted £40m and have had a poor start to the season! We probably did better than most terms will at Carrow Road this season, and we've got 4 points from 3 games. That's more than Arsenal, Everton and 9 other clubs. Give it 10 games and see where we are then.
-
Ok, "clearly" may have been the wrong phrase, but I just think it's the most likely explanation why he would choose us over Spurs right now.
-
This. I think he's clearly just here for the season, putting himself in the shop window and getting plenty of first team action to maximise his chances of going to the world cup. Smart move for him, too, cos he's playing in a team that's set up to supplying him with more goal scoring opportunities than most. Should be a mutually beneficial arrangement, and we shouldn't suffer on the pitch too much after he's left, as our youngsters are improving all the time and will learn from him, plus if it all works out, we'll make a profit and will be a top 10 team more able to attract another international level striker to take his place.
-
Norwich are a decent side now their new signings are settling in, especially van huskeywilly. I'll be happy with a draw as it's at their place. 7 points from our first 3 would be extremely pleasant though.

Who/what will be out next official partner?
Brave Sir Robin replied to doubleonothing's topic in The Saints
Dolmio. With Osvaldo holding up a jar on the big screen at half time saying "When's a your Dolmio day?!" We lead. Others follow. -

Lol! Haven't even seen one in the UK yet! (Apart from at the Hawthorns of course, but that doesn't count!)

Has there been a better team to support over the last 5 years?
Brave Sir Robin replied to lickierambert's topic in The Saints
Well that's good for you, Buck's, and it's a bloody good job there were 1000's of us still turning up and getting behind the team no matter what, or we might not have done it quite as quick. Of course I enjoyed the same moments of victory as you, the promotions and the cup win. I was bursting with pride when we dominated Man U for 60 mins in the fa cup whilst in L1. All I'm saying is, if I'm honest, it always bugged me that despite it all, we were still in the lower leagues and therefore unrecognised, and aware that we still had a long way to go. I'd much rather have not gone through all of that. At the time, I would've much preferred to be chugging along in PL mid table, like Stoke or Fulham. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, just how I felt at the time. What staggers me now though, is all the fans of other clubs who say to me all the time "where are you getting the money from?" - genuinely unaware that we were bought by a billionaire and have been one of the richest clubs in the country for several years now. Goes to show just how obscure and overlooked you are unless you're in the top flight! Sad indictment really, but just the way it is. -

Brave Sir Robin replied to lickierambert's topic in The Saints
You missed a great 27 years! Fortunately for us, Cortese recognised that we belong in the top flight and was able to persuade Markus to help make it happen. Let's not kid ourselves that we'd all have remained happy watching Saints playing at that level if we didn't all believe it was only temporary until we got back to the Prem. I think it's probably just that I was less patient for it to happen than you. -
Run away!

What's the problem? I like it. Nothing wrong with keeping up with the times. Other clubs will follow for sure.
-
I think they'd be viewed as arrogant, but with good reason. Same as us during our ascendency through the lower leagues, and hopefully us again as we continue to climb!
