Shouldn't really be losing, nor do we deserve to be winning. Very frustrating display. Wanyama below par, Fonte below par, JWP anonymous and Yoshida having a tough time out of position.
-
Very strange choice.
-
hard to know what the formation is meant to be. 3 CBs starting, with the two RBs on the bench. maybe a 3 at the back? 3-4-3 maybe? Stek Caulker Fonte Yoshida JWP Romeu Wanyama Targett Mane Pelle Rodriguez

Way too late in the indow to be seeling a player of Mané's importance, no matter the money ( which we don't actually need at the moment). Would leave the club in a position where it would have a week to replace our most dangerous AM/Winger and every other club being well aware of it. Not to mention that his he has not reached peak transfer value yet IMO. On the other hand it could be hard to keep him if he does to us what he did to Salzburg (Go on strike and refuse to play) in order to get a move.

Our passing is simply too slow right now, much like it was at the end of last season. It may work against average European sides, but in the PL and indeed against the good european sides we will likely have to play if we get into the EL group stage, it just won't be good enough. Hopefully Clasie, Romeu or both can add some tempo to our play once they are both fit/settled in.

CONFIRMED - Oriol Romeu joins on 3-Year Deal
Bewildered replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Going by whoscored's stats based ratings system our best three players were Yoshida, Davis and Cedric... -
We were rubbish, discuss. Stek - Little he could do about any of the goals. Cedric - Average Fonte - Couldn't handle Lukaku Yoshida - Also struggled with Lukaku, plus a few other shaky moments. Really need a new Starting CB. Targett - Everton Targeted his side for a reason, no pun intended. Wanyama - Can't do it all himself, despite his best efforts. Poor headers from corners Davis - Poor, anonymous further forward, which was an improvement Tadic - Did nothing of worth Long - Lucky Tadic was just as bad or he would not have lasted as long as he did Mané - Some flashes of his ability, but not enough Pelle - Balls into him were generally poor all day, had one chance that he should have scored. Subs: Romeu - Showed promise. Early yellow possibly stifled his defending at times. Rodriguez - Did nothing, butby the time he was on, Everton were set up to counter attack. JWP - Not enough time to do anything Koeman - That initial team selection was poor. Too many attackers in the side when Davis is used at DM and Yoshida starts. Next week, I expect Romeu in from the start and would like to see Juanmi come in.
-
Not good. Wanyama can't do it all himself, Davis is no help at DM which is not feasible if you line up with 4 out and out attackers.
-
Looks likely he'll be available in some capacity for Everton.
-
Mané should have won us that game. He did play well otherwise though.
-
Defence looks poor, Davis isn't a DM and never will be and the wide men are not protecting the full backs at all. Particularly on the left. Targett, who is not that good to begin with has been left isolated far too often.
-
Rodriguez, Mané, Pelle and Tadic all start, very attack minded line up. Too attacking for an away game?
-
This, make those two additions and we have more than one good option in every outfield position.
-
Looked ok 1st half. Good build up play but few clear cut chances to show for it. Caulker has looked a bit shaky a couple of times, but hopefully will improve as he settles in. Their goal showed why KD should be the last resort GK.

Post-Match Reaction: SAINTS 3-0 Vitesse Arnhem - Europa League R3
Bewildered replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Good win. Still look a way short of full match sharpness, but that will come with games. Cedric looks like he's going to be a great player for us. -
Surprised Rodriguez is not even on the bench.
-
One of the surprise visitors Guan mentioned? Though given RK saying we have enough strikers, it would be a surprise if we signed him.
-
Don't think he's good enough to replace Toby, but he is more than capable as a Gardos replacement. The lack of a built in buy option suggests that he was signed to cover Gardos and will allow the club to take it's time with the search for Toby's replacement without fearing the prospect of Fonte or Yoshida hurting themselves and having to throw Stephens or Turnbull in at the deep end.

According to Italian media agency Mediaset. Atletico Madrid midfielder Mario Suarez is set to snub Fiorentina and Inter and join Southampton. Seems unlikely considering Clasie's impending transfer and the whole Alderweireld nonsense with Atletico, but it's a link. http://www.tuttomercatoweb.com/europa/ne-inter-ne-fiorentina-mario-suarez-vicino-al-southampton-704293 translation
