Transfer deadline day thread (Summer 2013)
Toon Saint replied to Ivan Katalinic's 'tache's topic in The Saints
Hope Lukaku rejects WBA in favour of Everton. Terrible transfer policy bringing in freebies, has-beens, and try-before-you-buy loan deals. Crushing lack of ambition displayed and Lukaku would only paper over that. -
Bleeding double post but to clarify: the @dcfcoffcial twitter handle is a parody account.

Transfer deadline day thread (Summer 2013)
Toon Saint replied to Ivan Katalinic's 'tache's topic in The Saints
Good news re: Mayuka. Bit of a passenger last year and despite him being a 'character' in pre-season, clearly lacks footballing intelligence required for the Premier League. Maybe he will return a better player, but I'm not banking on it. -
Transfer deadline day thread (Summer 2013)

Your neuroticism is borderline pathological. We have signed three international class players (two which might develop into world-class players,) which in many respects, we had no right to go for. It has been an incredible window far surpassing my initial expectations. If this is a candidate for our worst window ever, what on earth would you describe as our best? P.S. The 'Gashton' thing stopped being funny the moment it left your brain. -
Who is to blame for the summer of transfer inactivity?

Official: Saints academy player most expensive player ever
Toon Saint replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
A 'blip'? If you are talking about recent U18 and U21 results then you should direct that criticism at Dodd and Hunter. Crocker's job was less about coaching youngsters directly and more on the strategic, management side of things. His legacy, and that of whoever takes over the academy, should be measured over years (and possibly decades,) not six weeks. -
Ah, makes sense now.

Le Fondre is French isn't he?!

Define 'ages'. Clyne was injured throughout the whole pre-season. Chambers, who had not played a minute of PL football prior to this season, deputised brilliantly in the first two games. Is there any reason to bang the drum when Clyne's absence has been largely circumstantial and Chambers has performed so admirably when called upon? Let the alone the fact that THREE games have been played. No doubt that Clyne will step back into the team when fully match fit but let's not forget he only completed his first 90 minutes on Tuesday. Asking him to do that twice in one week might have been a bit too much after coming back from a reasonable lay-off. Let's not forget Clyne has four years more experience on Chambers and a year of that in the PL. It goes without saying that he is 'considerably better' at this moment in time, but not sure how helpful it is comparing the two in such a reactionary manner.

My surname is actually Morris...so had this all of my life. Find your nickname offensive and it has stirred up some painful memories. Thanks.

'Poch's Pubescents' has a tad more gravitas IMO.

Quite a difficult situation to pick up a language in to be fair to MP.

Lee Molyneux trolling Saints fans on twitter. ****. Lee Molyneux @Moly24 1h Think it will kick off if Bill doesn't have replacements lined up for Baines and Fellaini if the rumours are true. Shaw & McCarthy will do. Lee Molyneux @Moly24 1h @EammonRyan8 Still better than Southampton. You ask Shaw if he'd turn down Everton and his answer will be "No". Lee Molyneux @Moly24 1h @Appy0911 Southampton=small club. Everton=big club. He'll see what it's done for Rooney, Arteta, Lescott and maybe Baines. He'd love it. Lee Molyneux @Moly24 40m Few bites from the Southampton fans. Small club syndrome it must be. Spent a few quid this summer and still light years away from Everton. Lee Molyneux @Moly24 37m Imagine when Luke Shaw signs for Everton, Morgan goes back to France and Lallana wants a move to a top 10 club. Saints maybe the new Pompey. Lee Molyneux @Moly24 28m He doesn't want to end up being relegated with his boyhood club. He'd rather leave to a good stepping stone club like EFC or Spurs haha

Would we really undertake a medical on a player two weeks prior to signing him though? I know we announced the Lovren deal several days after completing, but for a player to then go back and return to their parent club before signing would be a little odd, unless he is holding off for another club to come in for him. Share some of the concerns about there being a lot of competition for AM positions, but he'd definitely add another dimension to our game and would be good to see Clyne-Moses linking up together again on the right side. Hopefully Poch can lean on his friendship with Mourinho to get the deal done. Same could be said of Rodgers of course, but think he'd probably have more opportunity at Saints.

Cheaper than Willian, scores a lot more goals in a superior league and has massive scope for improvement. Fantastic buy and if they get Christian Eriksen as well then they have spent the Bale money very wisely and improved several positions. To think what our original 25% cut could have bought us....

I guess just that Southampton v Spurs will be interesting with Osvaldo facing up against Lamela.

Would love Lukaku at the club, but doubt there is any chance now that Johnny D has signed.

Screw customer service, let's just lay out a massive trough from which all the big fat piggies can graze at during half time. No point in offering decent fare, as the useless lazy salad-dodgers will probably eat their body weight in kebabs after the match, so re-constituted meat should do just fine. Plastic cups are wasted on their hoof-hands, so fix up a few hoses to some kegs, and they can guzzle some cheap-o dusty yeast water down their gobs and then the incontinent buggers can spew it all out in conveniently placed buckets. Money goes in a jam jar hanging from the trough. Those caught not paying get branded by Turkish.

Murray Groves @MurrayGroves 1m Southampton have stepped up their efforts to secure a one year loan deal for Valencia's tiny number 11, Pablo Piatti #saintsfc

Day trip to York?

Mata is the best AMC in the Premier Leage IMO, really don't get why Mourinho doesn't appear to rate him. Wondering whether he is on an ego trip and has taken an irrational dislike to him as he is the fans favourite. Would be an incredible coup for Spurs if they pull it off, and as you say, probably just putting the feelers out for Banega to see if anything could be done last-minute. I saw the Spurs-Banega tweet on the Guardian blog first of all, and they were estimating that it would take a bid of 30m euro to prise him away from Valencia. Weren't reports suggesting we would bid around £7-8 million? Quite a big difference.

amar singh@amarjourno1h Franco Baldini has contacted Banega's agent Marcelo Simonian, according to the report Think the loss of Will.i.an to Chelsea might be a factor in this. Expect that he'd play an AMC role behind Soldado as they certainly need someone with a bit more creatvity given that Dembele always seems to be crocked. Shame if we miss out on him - we were crying out for someone with his vision and ability to play the killer ball, against Sunderland. Though I don't know how concrete our interest ever was once we signed Big Vic.
