Do you really think we'd still be in the Premier League if we had Kelvin Davis in goal, Frazer Richardson at right back, Billy Sharp up front, Fonte and Hooiveld at centre half?

Sunderland 1-1 SAINTS // Post-Match Reaction
DuncanRG replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Not a great game, very end-of-season. Sunderland's a grim place. We dominated the ball totally but didn't make much from it. I think Fonte proved why MP prefers Yoshida and Hooiveld - uncharacteristically shakey and nervous at some points today though it never really cost us. The subs changed the game and I think it's that new blood that might give us a bit more intent going forward. Hope to see a deviation from the normal XI against Stoke but who knows? Anyway, got the point so we're safe. Happy days! -

They said all along he was signed with the long term in mind, I'm not surprised he hasn't played. I'd only worry if he doesn't get into the team next season

Happy for Lampard, one of the Premier League's great players. And that's his third-highest total for a season despite hardly starting a game!
-
They problem will be, as it has been in the Premier League this season, that the team doesn't gel, the players don't work together and most of them don't put enough effort in. It's not really about quality - if it were they probably would have stayed up. Even if they do keep those players (unlikely), most of them will feel like they're too good for the championship.
-
Is that all?

Can we sticky this and link to it whenever anyone calls a manager clueless or acts like they know better?
-
I think & hope he will, though if we're being given time in the middle of the park I'd like to see Puncheon come on for a bit longer and see what he can do.

This is so, so, so digusting. Unbelievable.
-
Not at all. Can't be sure if he'd have kept Shaw out of course but he's looked good every time I've seen him, particularly going forward.
-
Adebayor's a great player when he can be bothered - unfortunately he very rarely is these days. Not sure why we're talking about 'keeping him away from our club'
-
I've never understood this, baiting away fans and gesturing to them. At Millwall in the cup last season half our fans ignored the game and just tried to rile the home fans up
-
The way I see it a poor (or underwhelming) first season isn't a misfire. £12m on a young player is an investment of time as well as money and they'll be working over a long period to nurture his raw talent regardless of whether the investment pays off instantly. If he hits the ground running and scores 15 goals in his first season then that's a huge bonus rather than what's expected.
-
He looks an absolutely class act, it is a shame we missed out on him but he'd have kept Shaw out of the team so hey.
-
That just isn't true. Court cases cost a lot of money even if you're innocent. And again, even if they are innocent, they probably wouldn't have wanted this case rumbling on in the press.

On what planet is Junior Hoilett anything other than a mercenary? Almost every player QPR have signed since they got promoted have had that about them, and I wouldn't take a single one of them. They don't have any hunger for the game; if they did they'd have signed for a different club. I'd only have one player that's put on a QPR shirt this season and that's Andros Townsend, but he'll be going back to Spurs. It's unlikely. Signings within the league tend to go up the food chain rather than down, unless the player is unwanted at the bigger club.

Such is his influence, I suppose

I don't know a thing about this and won't speculate, but I'm glad it's over.

It would be a sad day when the league had to act as a life-support for the world's oldest cup competition! But that's the way it's going, I suppose

It was literally written in the press release that he was a signing for the future. It literally said that. It's as if people settle at different rates! I have no problems with Ramirez not being as good as Coutinho (though it's a shame cause he was one of our targets), Liverpool are a better team and a bigger club. They're likely to have better players. Something that fans so often do (and I should say it is a natural thing) is forget that coaches see these guys every day. They know the talent they have, and we don't unless it's shown in games. Of course players need to produce on the pitch but if they didn't see something in him (from their position of expertise, far beyond any of us) then he wouldn't be here. Take J-Rod; all our players were going on about his performances in training earlier this season and how they hope he can start to show it in games if he gets the confidence and game time. Lo and behold, he did and he started performing and the way our guys talk about Ramirez, he's clearly got that as well. Be disappointed with his season, hope he improves but don't bin him off now. This is a conversation we should be having next summer if he's still not performing and he's not improving with the rest of the team. This is what has happened to Hammond, Chaplow, Sharp etc - they haven't kept up with the rate of growth in the squad.

You can tell last night's game has changed things round here, can't you? They were beating everyone 3-0 yesterday afternoon cause they 'had more balls'
