Whilst we're on the subject of "cancelling" people with whose views the so-called liberal left don't agree, here is a very interested article addressing it:- https://unherd.com/2020/07/viewpoint-diversity-as-long-as-its-on-the-left/ So much hypocrisy on the left that the term "liberal" needs to be redefined so that it doesn't fall foul of the Trade Description Act. To paraphrase Rallyboy, "so I guess they like free speech, as long as it's woke enough for the left. If not, it isn't allowed".

Should have won that, and broken the Everton jinx. We had all of the chances in the first half to have put the match out of sight. Oh well, 4 points in the last two matches, but the other way round from what we might have expected, but beating City, it is the better way around.
-
When were we last quite that dominant? Shame that because of the failed J-WP penalty we are in at half time level because of one chance that Everton had, which was scored brilliantly by Richarlison. Richarlison is the PL's number one player most adept at falling over with minimum contact to gain free kicks. His acting ability is so good, he ought to have an equity card. He's grown even better at it at Everton than he was at Watford. But he has a suspect temperament, as demonstrated when he reacted to a slight touch from J W-P by ploughing into Adams for his yellow. Let's niggle him, and with luck he'll get sent off. Great play throughout the team as with City. No reason apart from the Everton away curse to suggest that we can't win this if we carry on in the same style as in the first half.

All that would be required for clarity, is for them to headline it "Queen Sonja dies". Simple really. Otherwise, I expect that the newsflashes all over the place will make it far clearer than Huffington Post, who might even feature a photo of which Queen they were referring to if it was ours.

Typical response from you, Gavyn. You seem to have missed the second part of the argument, where I said that regardless of whether they were your assumed political heavyweights or what you implied my sources were, politicalite (whatever that is) doesn't necessarily mean that they are right about everything, does it? Especially regarding political matters, where people's beliefs are so varied, and who is the arbiter of what is right or wrong about them? In need of help and intervention? What did you have in mind? The thought police? I'm afraid that I'm a bit long in the tooth for re-indoctrination, (as are you, of course.)

So when in the earlier report they used the same tactic by mentioning "Country", of course as an American news source, they meant America, didn't they? Only a thicko would think otherwise. Well, actually the country was Columbia. 🙄

Just for you

*Yawn* Did you lot enjoy the video? https://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/analysis-and-features/... Oh dear, it appears that the Not Independent has made the crass error of referring to "state spending" when they should have realised that should only apply to USA states, according to the intelligentsia of the Saints Forum. And do please read what I said originally. I didn't immediately jump to the conclusion that the article referred to the UK; I suspected that it was another attempt to mislead people into thinking it did.
-
Yes, of course Texas is a state, but so also is the UK referred to a state when it comes to referring to "state spending" for example. A pity that didn't occur to you.

I'm just like you; you apply your own level of scepticism to articles that question your political leftie stance, and I do so to the views on the other side of the political spectrum. Typically of you, the rather arrogant implication is that articles you highlight on here are the ones written by the political heavyweights, whereas the ones I highlight aren't. It suggests that you hold the mistaken believe that the more academically qualified someone is, the more likely they are to be right in their political views. I thought therefore that this might help disabuse you of that impression.

Oh, right. I'd not come across it before. I don't go to AOL for the news, my email is with them, so sometimes I glance at their headlines as a matter of passing curiosity, as I don't bother with BBC/ITV news any longer and most newspapers online are behind a pay wall. I believe that the news on AOL is Huffington Post, which is pretty left agenda ridden. Naturally one has come to recognise the bias from each different news source, and add various levels of scepticism accordingly.

It was also perfect that the only goal saved in the penalty shoot-out was by the Skates ex-keeper, and that the equalising goal that took the match to the penalty shoot-out was an own goal scored by Portsmouth. I can still remember the hurt caused by the own goal scored by Leon Best against Derby in the play-offs all those years ago, so having one of your own do so much to assist your promotion failure has got to hurt.

Man Utd every time, just because of the disappointment it would cause plastic fans all around the country and the world.
-
Yes, I agree that was the purpose, as well as their left wing agenda of making those who didn't click it believe that the headline referred to the UK. I said as much on the last occasion a few days ago. This practice is becoming really tiresome and the net result will be that people just stop clicking those links because they are fed up with being conned. I only clicked it today to ascertain exactly which state/country other than the UK they were referring to this time.

They're at it again. AOL news headlines, "State overwhelmed as Covid soars". Click to read it and they're talking about Texas. How easy would it be to have said "Texas overwhelmed as Covid soars", but that wouldn't suit the agenda.

Which is what the marxists behind the BLM organisation peg their hopes on when they want to attract naive and gullible woke SJWs to donate to their cause.

It's interesting how headlines in isolation on news web pages can mislead, I suspect deliberately and to an agenda. Under a photo of two people wearing fully protective clothing and moving a coffin into a vehicle, is the headline "Country struggles as Covid surges". Many will make the wrong assumption that they are referring to this country, but in fact, it is Columbia being referred to. How simple would it have been for the headline to have read "Columbia struggles as Covid surges"? But that wouldn't suit the agenda, either to misinform those who only read the headline, or to act as clickbait for the others.

Yes, your head is way above the bar, (or at least it is in your mind.)

You're a bit of a supremacist yourself, aren't you? What a shame that you seem to despise so many of your fellow countrymen (or should that be countrypersons?) and that there are so many of them, enough Brexit voters to form a majority in the referendum and enough Conservative voters for the party to be elected to govern the country. It must really upset you deeply on a daily basis. 😒

Good, we're making progress. Presumably these mass gatherings without observation of social distancing aren't a good thing because they will greatly accelerate the spread of the virus and thus undo all the work that had been done to contain it during the lockdown. Which was the point I made. What could the government have done better to prevent these mass gatherings? Not a lot when people decide to behave like morons en-masse. The government had made it quite clear what the rules were, but there are always going to be elements of society who will do the complete opposite for their own selfish and stupid reasons. The Police could have been far more active though, especially the Met under the useless Cressida Dick and Sadiq Khan. The sight of the police "giving the knee", running away and generally acting like pussies has been sickening and did little to deter further mass breaches.

https://www.spiked-online.com/2020/06/12/we-need-to-talk-about-black-lives-matterm/ Have a look at the photo of the Hyde Park BLM demonstration in this very apposite article and observe the sea of white middle class attendees, all trying to out-woke each other.
-
It isn't the only variable I am interested in; it is the current most significant change in the progress of the Chinese virus and our handling of it, hence it is something timely to make comment on. What is your opinion on these mass gatherings which commonly place little or no observation of the social isolation rules? Do you think that is a good thing?
-
I'm perfectly capable of reading opinions on it from numerous sources and forming my own opinion, thanks. Perhaps you would care to apportion the blame yourself if there is a spike in cases later in the year. Do you think that there was any point at all in social distancing measures these past three months if they are going to be thrown out of the window by mass irresponsible behaviour by idiotic berks? It really puts everything into perspective when certain individuals are castigated by the media for breaching those guidelines, and then the masses do it and the media just seems to shrug their shoulders.
