  1. Can't believe how quick people are to turn. We've had one of the most incredible runs of all-time, thanks to a brilliant manager and superb team. Any football game in any league can be lost. It's how football works. But this one is still wide open for us. The next goal crucial of course.
  2. This is an incredibly lazy, self-serving attempt to encourage kind people who know how to post video excerpts here to share their favorite goals. In a down moment, I'd love to see five or six in a single place. Here's one contender: https://x.com/FlynnJonas2/status/1731285077529620623?s=20 What's better than that?!
  3. this is what it looks like when there's a 2-league difference between two sides...
  4. Here is case in point... https://x.com/SouthamptonFC/status/1749137534259474848?s=20
  5. I know he can be so frustrating as a finisher. But I'd argue his real contribution to the team is as a playmaker. The number of times yesterday he received the ball midfield and either held off defenders in powerful or flicked forward to create space... I lost count. In many ways he's an essential part of the Russell Martin plan... because he can be the key that unlocks breakthrough moments for our attacks. He's not often credited with official assists, because his key plays come a few moves earlier. He's the assister of the assisters. But he's incredibly good at it. His substitution was, I think, a big part of our fall off second half. We lost our out, our playmaker. Personally I'd love us to offer him a new contract....
  6. We're all on board now w Russell Martin. How are people feeling about Sports Republic and their overall strategy? Maybe, just maybe, some people were a little hasty in writing them off. At this point their player acquisitions, and the appointment of RM are starting to look pretty impressive, no?
  7. Forget pissing on Pompey. Small. Boring. We have bigger fish to fry. This is the only video on the Internet of football fans singing Tubthumping. Even when they don't the words, they love it. We're missing gold here!
  8. Given that we've been relegated but may well be about to go back up, I can't think of a better anthem than Chumbawumba Tubthumping. It's actually a drinking song, which may help for later, but we can literally just coopt the anthem part. "Oh, Southampton... Southampton... Southampton............. I GET KNOCKED DOWN, BUT I GET UP AGAIN. YOU'RE NEVER GONNA KEEP ME DOWN. I GET KNOCKED DOWN, BUT I GET UP AGAIN. YOU'RE NEVER GONNA KEEP ME DOWN." I know from personal experience this is one of the best, most addictive, most singable, most inspiring anthems. If another club as used it, I don't know of it, but that might just be me. Would also be great for those moments one of our players gets savagely hacked at. A great way to cheer them back to their feet! If you guys can get this going, I WILL COME BACK FROM AMERICA TO JOIN IN.
  9. Fair. I apologise. He aint' perfect. I still think I spoke truth. But it's a question that will take another couple of years to answer for sure....
  10. To be fair... That's probably a fair result. We had the ball, they had the slightly better chances.
  11. Can I just say, I think we have a world-class goal keeper.... Every month he's showing greater skills, greater confidence. V v excited we have him.
  12. The team is wrestling w how much risk to take to break through. eg. Aribo's turn half way through was spectacular and nearly led to something. Stu Armstrong is 50/50. Some of his flicks have threatened, others have lost possession. Alcaraz, in principle is the kind of player who can turn possession into chances. But so far today he's turned possession into not-possession. But the point remains that against a team as good as Watford, we won't score w/o taking some risks.... I'd give Charlie A another 10 mins, and if he hasn't improved his outcomes, pull him for Smallbone. Despite the lack of goals, I've still loved seeing a lot of the one-touch play out of defense, esp in the first 15 mins...
  13. Well... for those who've been reluctant to embrace Martin-ball, I'd say today's your surrender day. Even though, we coulda shoulda had a few more goals, what we saw wasn't just effective, it was f@#$in' ENTERTAINING. When you get joy just seeing your team zing their way out of defense, life is good! Loved the game, love the team, it's fantastic that we aren't just 11 good players... the whole bench gets it too and contributes beautifully. Aribo?!! wow. that was beautiful to see. We just might have a beautiful few months in store.
  14. One small - or maybe not so small - thing I love is how Saints have changed their approach to throw-ins this season. We took forever under Hasenhuttl and often lost possession. Now, seems like the instruction is to throw quickly, even if it means going backward. I love this.
  15. I'm with you. We're trying something bold this season. It hasn't always worked. But there have been powerful signs of the tide turning. I thought it was a fantastic game today. We stuck w our fast one-touch approach, even when it cost us. And in the end, we broke them. Slowly, surely... and then suddenly! Confidence is one of the keys to us continuing this upward cycle. Every overly-cynical supporter is not helping that. 95th min goals really do help. There's a real chance now that we power our way up to challenge the top two. We'll see. But personally, I'm excited again for these owners, this manager and this team.
  16. There have been enough flashes of brilliance, mostly involving Sulemana, to give me hope. They're definitely being 'brave'!
  17. 4th equal. clean sheet. I'll take it!
  18. LOL. and there goes one out of play
  19. How good has Bazunu's distribution been? He must have completed 6 25-yard chip passes to the wings, releasing us. I'm not surprised they let him do the kick out from the kick-off. I think it's a key and growing strength of our game....
  20. I enjoyed that... A lot. Yes, some annoying give-aways, but also a few electrifying breaks. The 'method' slowly gained control over the half. Provided we concentrate first 10 mins second half, I think we've got this. 0-3. first clean sheet in forever. you read it here first.
  21. Gotta love this place. 3-1 up against a team that barely conceded last few games, and we're still in max neg mode. Live table... we're equal points w Leeds. We've seen glimpses of what the talent we own can do. that's pretty damn cool. for me, Stu Armstrong should be absolute team fixture. And v v happy to see ArmA growing in confidence. All that said no one wd like another Saints goal more than me. LOL
  22. Exactly. If you're in our half of the field with the ball, and it looks tight to find a pass, it takes real courage to go for it rather than hoof. But going for it is much more likely to retain possession. It's just that when it doesn't you may get blamed for the goal. Our whole season depends on whether the combo of skill levels our players have + the courage they can maintain to stick with this style of play can turn the tide. If you're Man City, you use this strategy to win everything. We MAY be able to pull it off in the championship. And when we see real signs of that (as happened in our opening game against Weds) it's pretty exciting. Given that this is the strategy, it really is counter-productive for us not to get behind it. Because otherwise we're literally making it harder for our players to do what they need to.
  23. I'm not sure if I'm more frustrated by the football or the fact that neither official audio nor video passes purchased from the site are working. that's really terrible customer service. I ended up buying a pass on the Norwich site and the stream there is working perfectly well, thank you Norwich. Still, missed the first four goals.
  24. No. nor video. It's really terrible that they make a big deal of charging for this and then screw up the tech.
