  1. Doesn't alter it though
  2. This was sent to me by a Preston fan just after we lost in the play-offs : The Premiership is like a dream holiday, great place to visit for the experience but not somewhere to stay if you havn't got the cash to enjoy it. Great division the Premiership, quarter of teams which have a chance of winning anything and you might beat once in a lifetime, next quarter battling out for a place in some mickey mouse european competition and half whose only aspiration is to stay as part of this select club. Whereas the championship is 3/4 full of big clubs (and no I don’t count us in that category) all of which teams like us can, and in our case, normally do beat at home each week. My way of looking at it is would I rather watch us win 3 games a season or lose 3 games a season…….. P.s. If you finish out of the top 3 you don’t really deserve to go up, but at least the playoffs are better than the Champions League - I wonder if MU would have won a single trophy if they had to do it without losing like Liverpool and Forest in the 70's…..
  3. Can anybody explain why SJ doesn't play ? ( Unless he is on appearance money that we cannot afford ).
  4. I seem to recall a number of references to Lloyd Dyer, whoever he might be !
  5. A lot is being made of our poor financial situation, and the consequences of it; being forced to play the youngsters, closing parts of St Mary's, etc., but does anybody have some direct comparisons of where we stand financially compared to teams such as Ipswich, Norwich, Sheff Utd & Wed, Preston, etc all of which I view as teams of a similar size and potential ? What I want to work out is whether the approach we are taking is truly the last and final option.
  6. Bit like the Blackpool game then ?
  7. The Somme, Paschendael, and Ypres perchance ? 'Lions led by Donkeys' comes to mind
  8. No we did not, that is the first team. There is a proverb that that states "Age and experience will always overcome youthful endeavour"; I understand fully the fiscal problems that we are suffering, but Blackpool, Doncaster, and Bristol City, are three teams with far less financial resources than Saints, but they have structured their squads with 'jouneyman' pros to bolster their own juniors. We could probably get away with 5, or even 6 of the youngsters playing at the same time, but with 9 we are simply not strong enough, physically or mentally. And for anybody pointing to the win at Pride Park, any Sunday league pub team would have won that fixture. Every team in this division now knows exactly how to beat us, height up front and strength at the back. ( It really doesn't matter if they concede the midfield, we are toothless ). This season always was about just doing enough to stop up, any more was wishful thinking. ( I hate being so negative about things, but part of 'keeping faith' is to recognise realities and not delude yourself ).
  9. I truly hope and pray that you are right, because that's all we've got !
  10. we are losing !!!
  11. It really doesn't matter how pretty we are in possession, it's the lack of a cutting edge up front, and the lack of any experience, ( or pace in the case of Perry and Killer when they play ), in the back four, that will catch us out time and again. This is going to be a looooong season. The problem with thinking that Jan can turn it around at half time is that surely Ian Dowie will similarly be trying to ensure that QPR are a completely different proposition in the second half.
  12. My eldest son and Theo were born on the same day, I'm sure somebody switched them !
  13. I tend to dip in and out of two or three books at the same time, currently progressing through ; "The Kalahari Typing School for Men" by Alexander McCall Smith, "The Colour of Magic" by Terry Pratchett, and "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee" by Dee Brown.
  14. Go tell the Spartans The odd angry shot ( Australian SAS in Vietnam ) We were soldiers, ( discounting the last bayonet charge scene, which is just plain gung-ho and complete historical bunkum ) FMJ Hamburger Hill Platoon BAT*21 Good morning Vietnam
  15. Bit of a cross-link to the Vietnam war film thread elsewhere on the forum : On the way home tonight I listened to The Ride of the Valkyrie, ( 5 and a half minutes of pure "Apocalypse Now" Bell UH-01 Iroquois 'HUEY' mayhem ), followed by Barber's Adaggio for strings, ( for that iconic "Platoon" moment ).
  16. Cue the Mercury Music Prize......
  17. Portsmouth by Mike Oldfield; the title says it all.
  18. The irony being that just about everything she lists in the song is simply NOT ironic.
  19. Cheating would imply that he took a deliberate and calculated decision to use the escape route, which is actually there because chicanes are tricky places and 'racing' incidents like this are bound to happen as drivers take split-second decisions in cars that are on the edge of adhesion to the circuit, whilst braking from extremely high speeds.
  20. Given the choice of cutting the corner or steering into the Ferrari, what would you have done ? The decision takes no account of two drivers being totally committed to racing each other, in deteriorating conditions.
  21. St Anger would be better if they had remixed it to remove the snare drum completely, it sounds like Lars is using a biscuit tin.
  22. In which case surely all that LH needs to do is as follows; after out-qualifying Kimi at Monza, he should let him past at the first corner at the start of the race, than wait until the third corner to go back past him.
  23. FIA = Ferrari International Assistance
  24. Ball in net : Saints 0 Blackpool 4. Maybe a draw would have been fair, but Blackpool looked like a team, played with a plan, and most certainly would not have desrved to lose.
