Why not have a forum for fans that have watched on telly ? You do not have to be at SMS to watch Saints, and you can even listen to some of the matches on the radio - you might not actually see the game but you can get a bl00dy good feel for what is happening !

Have you got Zaphod's sunglasses ?

At this rate it will be the League 1 play-offs at the end of next season

From the comments on here during the game, and looking at the match stats, we were bl00dy lucky to only be one goal down in the middle of the second half, such that we could come back. How many goals did our opponents have chalked off tonight ? ( If we had the same lino as at QPR we would have conceded 4. ) How many times did KD save our bacon ? The defence is a complete joke; whether because of their own inability, or the lack of cover from midfield really does not matter, you cannot afford to play HOME games against middle-of-the-table opposition and let them win 13-4 in terms of shots on target - it looks like Kelvin is nailed on as player of the season already. If we don't get all 3 points on Saturday, and that is far from certain, then maybe it is already time for Rupert's master plan to be rethought.

Jammy gits would probably cover it

This was sent to me by a Preston fan just after we lost in the play-offs : The Premiership is like a dream holiday, great place to visit for the experience but not somewhere to stay if you havn't got the cash to enjoy it. Great division the Premiership, quarter of teams which have a chance of winning anything and you might beat once in a lifetime, next quarter battling out for a place in some mickey mouse european competition and half whose only aspiration is to stay as part of this select club. Whereas the championship is 3/4 full of big clubs (and no I don’t count us in that category) all of which teams like us can, and in our case, normally do beat at home each week. My way of looking at it is would I rather watch us win 3 games a season or lose 3 games a season…….. P.s. If you finish out of the top 3 you don’t really deserve to go up, but at least the playoffs are better than the Champions League - I wonder if MU would have won a single trophy if they had to do it without losing like Liverpool and Forest in the 70's…..

Can anybody explain why SJ doesn't play ? ( Unless he is on appearance money that we cannot afford ).

I seem to recall a number of references to Lloyd Dyer, whoever he might be ! -
A lot is being made of our poor financial situation, and the consequences of it; being forced to play the youngsters, closing parts of St Mary's, etc., but does anybody have some direct comparisons of where we stand financially compared to teams such as Ipswich, Norwich, Sheff Utd & Wed, Preston, etc all of which I view as teams of a similar size and potential ? What I want to work out is whether the approach we are taking is truly the last and final option.

Bit like the Blackpool game then ?

The Somme, Paschendael, and Ypres perchance ? 'Lions led by Donkeys' comes to mind

No we did not, that is the first team. There is a proverb that that states "Age and experience will always overcome youthful endeavour"; I understand fully the fiscal problems that we are suffering, but Blackpool, Doncaster, and Bristol City, are three teams with far less financial resources than Saints, but they have structured their squads with 'jouneyman' pros to bolster their own juniors. We could probably get away with 5, or even 6 of the youngsters playing at the same time, but with 9 we are simply not strong enough, physically or mentally. And for anybody pointing to the win at Pride Park, any Sunday league pub team would have won that fixture. Every team in this division now knows exactly how to beat us, height up front and strength at the back. ( It really doesn't matter if they concede the midfield, we are toothless ). This season always was about just doing enough to stop up, any more was wishful thinking. ( I hate being so negative about things, but part of 'keeping faith' is to recognise realities and not delude yourself ).

I truly hope and pray that you are right, because that's all we've got !

we are losing !!!

It really doesn't matter how pretty we are in possession, it's the lack of a cutting edge up front, and the lack of any experience, ( or pace in the case of Perry and Killer when they play ), in the back four, that will catch us out time and again. This is going to be a looooong season. The problem with thinking that Jan can turn it around at half time is that surely Ian Dowie will similarly be trying to ensure that QPR are a completely different proposition in the second half.

I tend to dip in and out of two or three books at the same time, currently progressing through ; "The Kalahari Typing School for Men" by Alexander McCall Smith, "The Colour of Magic" by Terry Pratchett, and "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee" by Dee Brown.
