  1. Look at the rate change for the administrations of Israel & Italy. PR at it's best !
  2. How many times in the last 5 years have we switched managers and things have improved ? I don't get to see many games each season, and rely to a great extent on radio commentary when I can find it, or for home games, reading reviews and comments from those who attend. Based on last night's game it would seem that whilst we had good spells of domination, and passed the ball around well for a while, there are a few things that seem to come through from the post-match discussion, and from previous games; Substitutions,- any time you think about bringing Wotton on, you know there will be trouble Tactics,- we still seem to play players out of position, or they switch positions without rhyme or reason Fitness / Pace,- we still seem to lack both, whilst the opposition have it in spades Corners,- why don't we simply ask the ref to give the ball to the oppo's keeper when the ball goes behind, we can't do anything useful with it. To my mind all of these things are down to the manager, he picks the team, he supervises the training, he 'motivates' the players, and he controls the flow of the game. This squad is now, pretty much one of AP's making, so no excuses about being left the dross from last year. But despite all this, we have still not made up a single point on 20th place, and ths has to be down to AP. For a few games now we have had the 'things are improving', or 'we are turning the corner',- sorry, but whilst we had our unbeaten run, it was 5 draws and one win, 8 points from a possible 18. When does that rate of return become 'not good enough' ? I do not think it is time to ditch Pards, but the 'green shoots of recovery' need to sprout into flower pretty damn soon.
  3. Don't worry...we are too good to go down.............
  4. Does this make Gillingham a 'must win' ? After that 3 of the next 4 games are away, [ Southend (currently 14th in the league ), Oldham ( 7th ), Orient ( 21st and a true '6-pointer' ) ], and the home game is MK Dons, who are right up at the 'sharp end'.
  5. Sounds a lot like last season
  6. And with our squad, that is what we should be aspiring to ! We may have "competed well" against a top three team, but you don't get points for trying, and we don't win against the lesser teams, ( Carlisle 18th, Stockport 16th, Millwall 15th ).
  7. Does that mean we can start of the discussion about speed limits again, because there is little point in finding anything positive to say about the football. 10 games in and only 1 win. The only possible good thing is that we are still 10 points behind 20th, so that gap has not got any worse. When are we allowed to start complaining that it isn't good enough ?
  8. Did the wireless ever work, or is it only since it cr@pped out and needed rebuilding ? Reason for asking is the quality contol is not as good as it should be and some cards are reported as being wired incorrectly inside the chassis.
  9. I work here and don't see the attraction, however I am duty bound as part of my employment to say "Welcome to Blackpool", ( or is that "This is Blackpool and you are welcome to it" ? ). It really is a wonderful place between New Year and Easter.
  10. 2-1 Saints, positive points at last, and 2 more than p00pey.
  11. But how many drivers HAVE been on the advanced course, and how many are ever paying 100% attention to what is happening on the road ? A major part of 'braking distance' is REACTION TIME, and at 100mph, the world is going past your windows very quickly, and you are catching up to the cars in front faster than they are anticipating. Fiddling with the in-car entertainment, shouting at the football commentary, disagreeing with the political speech on the radio, complaining about the 'numpty' in the car ahead that won't get out of your way, shouting at the kids / missus / dog in the back, all serve to lower your awareness of what is going on around you, and extend your reaction time. Do you drive with 100% attention ALL the time ? I will admit I don't. ( 99.9% perhaps )
  12. I suppose, as I am paid out of tax revenues, I may actually be partially self employed
  13. No it isn't, because whilst you may feel safe at 100+, cocooned in your recaro seat with all the gadgets Japanese or German technology can throw at you, the people obeying the limit , or even just nudging it from the wrong side, will not be in a position to identify and react to your projectile appropriately, as the net speed differential will be over 30 mph. As we are on a footbal forum let's put it this way: at 70mph the overall stopping distance is the length of a football pitch, at 100 mph it is is nearer to 2 pitches. At 100 mph, are you even aware of what is happening 2 football pitches away ?
  14. Stop watching him then !
  15. Never yet met a politician I could trust, and I work for them.
  16. I bet Felipe Massa felt completely in control at 300Km/h right up to the point a bit of Reubens Barichello's suspension hit his helmet. I once had a rear suspension arm fail, on a rear wheel drive car, at 20 mph; it pulled the prop shaft out of the gearbox and the car went from 20 to 0 instantly ! If I had been doing 30+ the car would have flipped over. You never know what is about to happen, and at 100+ you will NEVER react in time -- FACT !!!!!
  17. Driving through Tyldesley this morning I was approaching a set of traffic lights which went to green just as I was expecting to slow down for them, so on I went. They must have been on green for about 5 or 6 seconds by the time I reached them, at which point a merc came across my bow from the junction on the left, - must have been a good 10 seconds after his lights went red, and I didn't see him until he entered the 'box'. If I had been 1 second further up the road, 1 mph faster, or hadn't just 'blipped' my brakes as I approached the junction, he would have hit me right in the front passenger side and parked in my wife's seat. The faster you drive, the greater your thinking and stopping distances, and you can never expect to anticipate all the bl00dy stupid things the other drivers might do, ( let alone them not realising exactly how quickly the object in their mirror is closing with them ). It doesn't matter how good you or your car are, speed is dangerous because you are NEVER in complete control of the situation.
  18. Not exactly true, though, is it ? http://driving.drive-alive.co.uk/driving-in-germany.htm "Although the autobahns in Germany are not subject to an overall speed limit (the blue speed limit signs, usually showing 130, are suggested maximum speeds), many stretches of autobahn are covered by signed speed limits, which are mostly closely observed by the Germans." And remember, that 130 is KmPH, so 80 MPH, and even where the limit is only 'advisory', if you exceed it and are involved in an accident, you are always taken as being at least partly to blame. Also, the death rate per million motorway miles is twice as high in Germany as the UK.
  19. Still think this is one of the worst circuits on the calendar; once the first 2 laps are completed you need a dodgy pitstop or a safety car to progress through the field, no other form of overtaking is possible. If I was Webber I would be kicking the mechanic who said the brakes were OK. ( Much LOLage though, if only because he's an Aussie !!! )
  20. Kinetic Energy Recovery System, and basically you are correct. I think it gives up to 70bhp added power for up to 7 seconds per lap, and resets itself each time the car crosses the start/finish line.
  21. What the Sloanies drive their kids to school in
  22. Hamster, as Weston has said above, this is almost certainly NOT on either your or your relatives' PCs; it is most likely that somebody that you have at some point sent an e-mail to, either an individual or a website that you posted your address on, has been compromised instead. It is one of the easiest things in the world to 'spoof' the address in an e-mail, and there are websites from which you can buy lists of e-mail addresses, some of them are actually legit and used for marketing, others are garnered from compromised machines and hawked around the black market. A few months ago at work I received 50 e-mails from my own address, and I am the IT Security Manager !!!
  23. We will most certainly NOT have 50+ points, and therefore be safe, by Xmas ( I assume you mean out of the bottom 4, which is a sentiment I just about concur with ).
  24. Nightwish "Over The Hills And Far Away", followed by the worryingly titled "Come Cover Me" :smt103
  25. Twas a typo, put 'pressure' when it should have been 'penetration' . ( In which case see post #66 to which it was a reply )
