Are we better off than when Crouch was here?
slickmick replied to Channon's Sideburns's topic in The Saints
Neither did Burley first season. In fact he had 7m to buy prime players. If your deluded enough to think Leicester should be guaranteed a top two place, then the same should have applied to us back then. Just in case you missed it, have a look to see where Leicester will be if they win their game in hand. -
Don't change a winning team. He might be more hungry to play, if he has to win his place back.

Another cracker from Nickh. Re-read your posts in defence of George Burley. Game set and match. -
Many posters on here have their own businesess and I'm sure they all recognise their best customers in many different ways. Be it a jolly of some kind, a golf day, races, meal or a Christmas hamper. All these things are done to let your customer base know that you appreciate their business. So for me, I think this gesture of the players throwing their shirts to the fans, knowing its at their own cost, will go a long way in building bridges with the fan base. Now if only our board could also start to show a similar fan bonding gesture.

that is how I meant it.

If your going that far back, how about Coventry game when we were 4 v 2 down, came back to go 5 v 4 ahead only for Mark Hatley i believe, to make it 5 V 5. Also recall being 3 v 0 down at half time against Ipswich, then we went on to win 4 v 3. That was in the Channon era.

Good call, Slate grey shirts at home campaign starts here.
-
If I was a player I would have kept my shirt as I'm superstitious about things like that. Lucky shirts must be returned please.
-
Not if they knew before hand that giving your shirts away would come out of their own pocket. Its a way of them showing the fans that they do care and appreciate their support. Especially after some of the performances they have put in recently. Besides, these players aren't exactly suffering with the credit crunch with wages a lot of us would gladly except.

Preston 2-3 Saints - You've Gotta be Havin' a Laugh
slickmick replied to Arizona's topic in The Saints
Like a lot of you one here, I was watching the live feed on Sky sports when they announced Preston had gone 3 v 2 up. I was to busy swearing and moaning about how we always concede late goals. It was a while before I found out we had won. Fantastic second half. My only worry is that we seem to have a habit of going 2 or 3 behind before we get our act together. Get that part right and Jan may be correct about us giving someone a good hiding. Lets start with Bristol City. -
Thing is, I think we might. A big win could change our season around.
-
Strange way of motivating the team before a game.
-
Does that mean its unlikely that we will see Euell, BWP, Skatcel and Davies all play at the same time again ? Was last night a one off ? If not, then it will prove that Rupert doesn't need to tell Jan who to pick purely on financial reasons.
-
No... he is going to invest it into SFC. :smt044

Guide Price £1,350,000 - SOLD STC Garden Road, Burley Is this it ? I was looking at websites that sell grazing and agricultural land, and a house (possibly the one above trousers found) that looked like the one MW was posing in front of appeared. I will look tommorrow.

Which now suggests our wages are under enough control that RL doesn't need to advise JP who we can and can't afford to play. At last....got there in the end. So Rupert, let Jan do his job.
-
Thank you for a more reasonable answer. From that, I gather what you are saying, our four present highest earners don't all get an appearance fee or bonus. Stern John I guess does, so that now frees up more space for the other big earners.
-
£2m...I think. I will try and find the link (wish I saved it now) but if its his Jersey home it might save me a lot of time bothering to search.
-
Exactly.. hence why I made a point that last night we played our supposed four highest earners. So that goes against the argument about wages ect.
-
Simple question avoided in your normal manner. I wasn't trying to catch you out or discredit you. If you are going to use such comments in a debate, then you should expect to be questioned back.
-
So that takes us back to my first question.
-
Very touchy response. I really am not interested in your source, just wanted to know if that is what you have been told or if its what you believe to be likely. So how about answering the first part.

The picture that has been published on this forum of Michael Wilde standing on his lawn in front of a white house, is that his Jersey home or the one in Burley. The reason I ask, is that there is one very similar looking thats for sale in the New Forest.
-
Lawrie and Bally were a one off. They both had a lot of respect for each other, thats why it worked so well. You only have to look at Newcastle to see how wrong it could go, with Wise and Keegans personalities clashing.

Good question, worth a thread on its own.
