You may live in the internet age, as i do. But a huge proportion of people over the age of 50 never use it and don't have access. But thats neither here nor there, it's a storm in a tea cup; which make you wonder why NC is wetting his bed again over what the Echo thinks. He needs a thicker skin, broader shoulders, and to grow a pair.

Building a whole new stadium would be financial suicide, and no bank is going to lend us the money under the present economic climate, nor with our record of repaying banks the mortgage on new stadiums. Unless all the finance came from the ML family it will never happen. And lets face it, NC can't get the training ground finished on time without a some balls up that has suspended work, how is he going to manage with a 40k new stadium. Personally I'm more than happy at SMS, not least because it's in town, with all the various transport and pre/post match entertainment options available.

Totally agree.
-
Yeah 'cause Murdochs rags and the Daily Hate Mail could never be accused of that.
-
When SMS was built I seem to remember reading somewhere that it was engineered such as the two side stands could expand by 7K each, and the ends by 5k each.

I'm not exactly sure when we started wearing stripes (ask FF) but it was at least 50 years before the 1950's. I've got a picture of the team in 1896 wearing the stripes.

Oh the delights of sub third round draws. Winnable though.
-
It looks pants, and very much like Leeds, Bolton etc from the back. If it was kept, after a couple of years all the girls on here would want yet another change to match their handbags. Red & White stripes and black shorts, it's not difficult.
-
I've heard Man U fans want to change their traditional Red shirt as they are fed up with looking like Barnsley, Charlton, and Boro.

Brentford or Lincoln City away. I want to be reminded how good a team looks in traditional Red & White stripes.

Charles Darwin, Michael Palin, Wilfred Owen, Mary Webb, Clive of India...
docker-p replied to benjii's topic in The Saints
Michael Palin was from Sheffield, Wilfred Owen was from Oswestry. Something a bit feeble with crowing about beating Shrewsbury. -
Anyone know of any coaches booked for this, other than the bingo coaches?

You may be right. We could have ended up a two, or more, club city. I would have followed the new club wearing red and white stripes. Others would have followed a club with no heritage or understanding of tradition and followed the club wearing a white kit with a red sash. Oh how i would have hated those tossers.
-
Without doubt we could and would have started again (as Southampton 1885 if i'd had my way). As has been pointed out Wimbledon, Aldershot, Newport County etc all managed it. If justice had caught up with Portsmyth, even there tiny support would have started up a new club. The difference with FCUM is their 'mother club' didn't go bust, or up sticks and move. But I agree with CB Fry, we were never, ever going to be wound up.

They're all closet cross dressers, eat humous, and go to wife-swapping parties. Surprised they've got the time to post.

Thats what I wanted to know but was too afraid to ask

Where can I start? It never made sense to me to celebrate 125 years of history by wearing a kit nobody alive saw us play in. For the vast vast majority of our 125 years we have proudly worn Red and White stripes. ALL the greats who have thrilled the Saints faithful over the years wore Red & White stripes. Ted Bates, Mick Channon, Charlie Wayman, Matthew Le Tissier, Ron Davies, Nick Holmes, Terry Paine, Peter Osgood, Derek Reeves, Kevin Keegan all wore Red & White Stripes (Red & White stripe (sic) in KKs case) Civic and private triumph and disaster have been played out in Southampton over the last century against the backdrop of a community club recognised by the Red & White Stripes. My parents, your parents, my grandparents, and your grandparents would all have know Southampton play in Red & White Stripes. Why then throw all that heritage away in the name of 'celebrating' our 125 anniversary? A cynic might think it was just about separating Saints fans from their hard earned money. The quicker we can turn our back on this aesthetically displeasing, tradition busting, peruvian kit the better. Until then, COYW.

Brijan Tours buses to and from SMS & Railway/docks
docker-p replied to supersonic's topic in The Saints
I thought the club were obliged to provide free bus transport to and from the ferry/train station as part of the original agreement with SCC when building SMS? -
Can't see anything wrong with that. Unlike the Saints-player which is toss; but as I believe it is supplied from the News International/Sky/Murdoch axis of evil I'm not surprised.

Like most on here I think the pricing policy proposed by SFC is spot on. Why then NC has to go public with the dispute is beyond me and I'm afraid another example of how unsuited he is to running our club. Constantly ****ing off people you have to do business with, (and I'm not talking about the dispute over the pricing, but the going public about it) will come back to bite your ass as sure as night follows day.

The Spending Review (tackling the Socialists debt mountain)
docker-p replied to dune's topic in The Lounge
The right wing in every country interprets impartial reporting as left wing bias. I personally think they lack the necessary intellect to understand that reporting both sides of an opposing view is called balance, not bias. Just my personal opinion. -

There is not a day that goes by without the Daily Mail having a pop at the BBC for something. It's a pity that a few of their readers believe their rabid anti BBC agenda without asking themselves why the Mail holds such a stance. Nothing to do with the DMs owners wanting a piece of the Broadcasting business should the BBC be scaled down? The BBC is possibly the most important News and broadcasting agency in the world. It's reputation for thorough and impartial reporting is second to none, and a British institution envied around the world. I expect that the Daily Mail omitted to mention that the BBC goes to extraordinary lengths to make sure the make up of the Question TIme audience accurately reflects the political views of the Nation. I know, I've applied to attend in the past. And the Daily Mail will have known this too. But unlike the BBC they have no constitution that demands accurate impartial reporting. In the words of one of most respected journalists around, John Simpson, you won't realise how good the BBC is until it's gone. -
Portsmyths winner today scored by Nugent, a player whose wage they can afford only by not meeting their tax bill, and paying creditors 20p in the pound. Fair competion is an anathema to the blue few.
