The Long Overdue Pointless 2015/16 (Adidas) Kit Thread

Slightly wider red and white striped version of that would be class -
Lots of thoughts about the TV deal money to lead to a reduction in season ticket price. How about the additional money from the new TV deal when it comes into play is used to keep or attract the best players? Just a thought

Top 4 chance now gone? Europa Thoughts?
Daft Kerplunk replied to Saint Charlie's topic in The Saints
Would love 4th, would happily take 7th if that gets us UEFA football competition, but would just prefer us to finish above Liverpool and Spurs. If 4th appears out of the question, 5th please gents. We must beat Spuds at home, the great football god of green fields demands justice. -
Perhaps Alderweireld is the successor to Morgan when he departs

'he played brilliant today'...instead of 'he played brilliantly today' unless of course we were watching the new televised sport called Brilliant

cortese did not like stripes so expect the stripes to stay but this time with a quality global manufacturer - strong -
When they play Muse, it kills it dead. Totally sh!t choice. While we're at it, music should NEVER EVER be played after you score a goal. It is an awful thing
-
Schneiderlin Wanyama Alderweireld It shows where our strengths are that these dudes are in the majority of top current Saints list, and why we we're more vulnerable when those three aren't available. Three top players at the core of a really good team when they are fit and playing

I used to go to the dell and watch reserves and any youth games that were on. He was class then. You could tell, you watch for long enough and whilst all the attributes aren't there when they're young, the potential is clear

It always surprises me how football 'experts' are allowed I get away with so little knowledge about teams outside the big few or London teams. It even happens in the champions league where the commentators very often appear to have little knowledge of other countries in European football. I guess I have high expectations that those who get paid to watch football should have wider knowledge of players, teams, tactics, form. As for print media, the red tops still dominate what most fans read about football and they almost completely ignore the actual football and focus on personality from any time I see them. Commentators I guess are just responding to the tabloid needs of most fans.

Definitely think there is a need to move the noise to the chapel end. Sitting in the chapel vs Ipswich made you realise that one whole end can be a wall of sound whereas its disjointed at the moment and when the away fans sing, the northam end is not that audible. Sorry but it's true. Some people could and would still stay in the northam and itchen and as someone else suggests from the Dell, that would be helpful in generating more atmosphere. But sadly it has all gone a bit flat. There are loads of reasons but a bigger noisy end, and then some organisation of singing (sounds corny but it works very well for Man Utd who have loads of songs ...which we copy), banners, flags etc. and everyone could get wrapped up in it. Football is entertainment and part of that is a noisy passionate crowd, or at least it should be. It's our community, our chance to come together to do our city proud.

Les Reed's use of the word resilient is interesting when it appears we are being rogered in every orifice!

Koeman more likely to go with 5 at the back, which might work well with the full backs bombing on and Chambers moved into more of a centre back position...team assuming Schneiderlin and Lovren leave...xxx new and very important signings. Boruc/xxx Clyne Chambers xxxx Fonte Targett JWP Wanyama Cork xxx xxx with able deputies in Davis, Ramirez and anyone else we have not yet seen in full swing coming to the fore such as Reed, Gallagher and so on

If Lovren goes to Liverpool, then so be it. They are legitimately one of the biggest teams in football and no-one can realistically argue with that unless they're only aware of the Man Utd. years. If he goes to Spurs, then that would be a big blow even though they are bigger than us with a more successful history, they are not really that close to the top in terms of european success. it'd be better if he went to Barcelona out of anyone. As Saints fans, we need to hope that this transfer window is a blip where we lose some players who bought into a different vision of the club's last regime and that we get players in who want to create something else, possibly even ore successful but that might take a bit longer to achieve. It is possible to do if the club vision is consistent and strong. It would also be much better if we as fans, didn't get attached to players, and the shirt became absolute. The current culture of hero worship of players is what leads to this disappointment and feeling of rejection when they leave. It's highly unlikely that they love the club, just as employees don't usually love a company they work for but whilst they are part of it, as long as they do their best, then fine. They are doing a job for the shirt, and whoever is in the shirt gets our support but not individual adulation. With players like Lallana the fan adulation has been counter-productive and clearly and his agent thought that it would see fans backing him and not the club. He forgot what side fans are on, but that's also partly our fault for putting players on a pedestal. We fans should be comfortable with the idea of players moving on though as once they've left, and ultimately, always welcome them back to realise that the club is bigger than them and always will be. It's a more positive way of making the team the star.

Appalling show of grace from the Club and some fans
Daft Kerplunk replied to jasonb's topic in The Saints
It's a shame that Mr Lallana has decided to leave badly. Unfortunately, i have it on good authority that him and his agent were also stirring things up among other players. Not the angel he'd probably like people to believe. Not necessary either and why he wanted to stir things up is anyones guess. He could have left with good grace, would probably have been able to with no-one disliking him for wanting to play in the CL (I know I would if I could) but he chose another path and made sure it was know (see Luke Shaw for how to make a move properly), much to his detriment. We knew he was gone with the player awards when he could hardly have been less enthusiastic about staying. Good luck to him, but hope he realises at some point just how good he had it down at this 'level'. -
I'd say people need to separate Ralph from the football matters. If his role is to raise the commercial side (which is critical to any future success) then he is the right type of person. He'll encourage people, open doors, and do the leadership thing needed for development of revenue because of his genial nature. Hopefully, there is someone advising that commercial success will not come unless there is success on the pitch. Rich businesses who sponsor, purchase hospitality etc. are attracted to success and ambition, only locals will do it through loyalty to the 'badge'. The football side is clearly the realm of Reed and this appears to be where we miss Cortese, who was very keen on making sure the football side was protected and top-notch, which ultimately means making sure the players are very very happy. Cortese's big problem appears to be that his abrasive style did not go down well with other business-types. Cortese clearly had the football side down, and also would have been a check on Reed, who now, is the king of all the football activity. It sounds like senior players aren't convinced by Reed and in the past, never had to worry because Cortese was the man making sure their needs were taken care of so that results could be delivered on the pitch. In terms of a power play behind the scenes by Reed, I've read that Dodd and Williams were sacked on very tenuous grounds and player shock at their removal given how much they said they helped them hints that maybe popular staff were fired so Reed could gain more power appointing his own people. Weaker leaders often do this as they don't like others being popular as they fear their power could be undermined. Cortese would most likely have asked the players their view as the players were his big thing and if the players were happy, then good and influential characters like Dodd and Williams would most likely have stayed. At the moment, I think jumping on Ralph Krueger is not necessarily the right call when it comes to football matters as before the end of the season, Reed's profile was raised and he is the man with full football responsibilities. I'm intrigued at whether he can deliver. I 100% do not believe that players should just be loyal because they have a contract as being a football player is not the same as working on a shop floor, a warehouse, a desk when you don't really genuinely have a choice of where to go for work, and there aren't choices. If there were, staff loyalty would be far more difficult, and businesses would be making sure staff were happy. Players are valuable and should be treated as such and that means looking after them and their interests. The moment that stops is the moment they will become unsettled. The players probably knew that when Cortese left, the ambition was going to change but the unsettled element is a failing, and worrying because two of the key players for the ethics of what has made us in the last few years want to leave. Both Rickie and Adam have understandable football or personal reasons to go but losing people like Dodd especially is not a good sign that things are right behind the scenes on the football side - the transition from the near past to a new future needs to be managed properly so we don't lose the team spirit that was so very obvious to all. Let's hope that this isn't going to really go all horribly wrong and a great situation turns awful very quickly. If it does, it is Reed, not Krueger that will have the questions to answer.
-
definitely encouraged by what he said, clearly we will lose some players but maybe, just maybe, we will use th emoney wisely and get solid replacements and additions. With £50m from Shaw and Lallana leaving, that should cover it plus anything else they want to spend. As long as the ambition is big, which getting top calbre people in behind the scenes as well as on the football side indicates, then the future still seems bright. Just hope we get a manager who can develop the team spirit, and technical elements in the way Poch did.
-
Incorrect. With a vision of success to maintain his interest, he'd likely stay. Any quarter wit could see that so i guess you wouldn't see that in a mirror
-
no blame to Poch if he goes. if there's no big ambition and you are clearly a talented coach, why stay? won't stop anyone supporting Saints but says a lot about the 'leadership' and 'project' that comes next.
-
The only people to blame if Poch goes are the board. If, and I say this as it is as yet unconfirmed that he has gone, they had a 'vision' that embraced the potential, he might give it a bit longer, but if they have not convinced him that we are where he should build a great team, then they've dropped a massive clanger. Key players will leave, and the team that could achieve so much will be broken up and this will represent a massive fail. The warning to the board is that financial success will not come unless you have a team on the football side capable of giving you the platform to capitalise on. The best commercial team in the world could not sell ice to Eskimos so ours will not be able to sell the Saints 'brand' to the world if they don't have success or even a dream of success on the football side. That is the reality. If you are reading, be warned that your job will become a great deal harder unless this 'leadership' has a very good plan.
-
My post wasn't a dig at the current board as I am sure they are still making plans. It's more of a hope that, unlike in 2003 when our last opportunity to push on was there, we failed and ended up failing in big way. I am hopeful that internationally respected leaders and business-people will have more of a grasp of the opportunity before them, and that the investment can be recouped - £50m would be covered by one year of TV alone now, and am happy to give them time to demonstrate this. Players looking at us now will also see an opportunity if we keep the players, and keep Poch. With regard to the players, i think we only really need: A back-up or challenging GK (£5m perhaps) A centre-back (£10m tops) An attacking/creative midfielder - and only if Gaston starts performing and AL doesn't leave (£15m) A forward or two (£20m)

So, here we are apparently at a big moment, and this summer to me, is the biggest moment we've had as a football club for 5 years. I think we are genuinely 4 players from being able to compete for Champion's League football and that this does not need to cost a massive amount of money (in football transfer terms) so long as we keep our best players. This is the opportunity before the current regime. There is talk of maximising commercial opportunity and this needs to happen for certain. Cortese was not at all good here from reports and anecdotes, and so far, this board is unproven but one thing is abundantly clear and that success generates revenue and opens doors to international markets, as well as at home. Therefore, if this new board is going to generate more money, then the vision has to be for success, and given that we are so close to even bigger success with a great, and importantly, young team with great team spirit led by a brilliant young manager, this should make sense to everyone at the club. Are our leadership team going to squander this once in a generation opportunity to create something truly special or are they going to embrace it, and invest in the next stage knowing that a return is as good as guaranteed in football terms? Obviously, we have no idea what is going on, and this is not a demand for more information but I hope, as a fan, that we do choose to do something different and change the face of British football in this era by becoming a great team that isn't just built by spending lots of money. Surely, the football public globally will have massive respect for that if we were to pull it off. The money will then follow, and given the huge TV deals nationally and globally, the return on investment would be quick and sustainable. I for one can't believe that bright and leading business individuals would miss the open goal that is staring them in the face. This is their time to lead and earn their crust. Anyone can cut costs, it takes more to do build. Fingers crossed that there things are being put in place that mean we sit at the top table for quite a few years to come.

Players who have been rumoured to be on the move and our head coach are under contract, and we've said we don't need to sell, and actually, that we are looking at players to come in. Therefore, until anything changes, nothing needs to be said. Players might leave, the manager might leave and I' like many, will be gutted if that happens but some of the over-reaction to nothing being said when nothing needs to be said is hilarious, and also annoying as you can, if you're not careful, get dragged into it. Please go and cut your grass, have a gin and tonic, or get back to work instead of worrying over nothing

we are 4 days into the post-season yet everyone is now on twitterspeed, meaning that every minute becomes an hour and so on, then people seem to need answers and comments so quickly on stuff there might not even be the need to comment upon yet. Hopefully we will keep everyone, and Poch stays and we go to new heights but for goodness sake internet people, it has been 4 days since the close of the season, not 4 weeks! que sera sera...and so on

to me, the 'wait for the summer' where and if it refers to Saints and not England is that the players need to see what the overall objectives are for the football club. Build upon the special thing we have and no-one has a problem staying because they, and many believe this team plus a few more can achieve special things. If a decision is made to stay how we are and see how things go with the current playing squad minus a few players, then I wouldn't blame our best players to want to go elsewhere and compete at the highest level they can outside International level i.e UEFA competitions. the board probably are also very aware of the unique opportunity they have, and the commercial advantages that come with success on the pitch. I would imagine if they've got their heads screwed on, things will be ok and building will happen. It's much easier to get better national and global commercial deals when you are successful after all.
