  1. Looking forward to the Germans showing us how fans can contribute to a great atmosphere
  2. A much improved second half, maybe the first half was exactly what we needed to get it out on the table for Hughes and the players. Still a week and a half to go of ore-season, and a win is better than a loss any day of the week.
  3. Ah that’s better then. But Charlie Austin banging the goals in this year and Armstrong with one now. COYR
  4. Don’t worry people, we lost 0-3 to Augsburg this time last year so the result is no indication on what the season ahead will be like.
  5. I’ve heard plenty of local artists played at matches. Band of Skulls, Delays, Sean McGowan, Mongo, Alan Fitzpatrick, Craig David, Jona Lewie have all been played at least once I’m sure
  6. Frank Turner is a Hampshire boy...who went to Eton. Perfect for modern football!
  7. Renegade Master by Wildchild is the track by the Southampton artist. The original is a great tune, afatboh slim remix is alright but doesn’t have the same driving beats. Would be very good and relevant to the city.
  8. Fantastic. Appreciate there are multiple meanings. The aircraft black box was a device for a semi comedic (interpretation will dictate your view) comment on how the date therein is used after a crash, which is kind of what the transfers have been the last two years when we didn’t have a high profile manager to help attract players or autocratic, some may say overly ambitious or crazy business leader telling players we were headed to the Champions League.
  9. The ‘black box’ was never a great analogy seeing as a black box contains the flight data that’s useful for understanding the reasons why a plane crashed or exploded. Saying that, opening the black box now might explain why the transfers over the last few years have been well under par!
  10. I’d say 12th for us, and seeing the way opposition teams have sliced our defence like a hot knife through warm butter in pre-season and the official SFC video had an attacking player getting in a forward position that resulted in an easy clearance listed as a ‘chance’ this might be optimistic.
  11. That’s because Les and Martin Hunter have got rid of, or let all the people go who actually were good at finding and developing players, and critically in the case of Jason Dodd, knew what it took to be a premier league player and what it means to play for Saints. From what I understand, it will be awhile before the academy performs as well as it once did, and maybe not until Les departs and takes Martin Hunter and their people with them.
  12. Karma will come in his next life, the misunderstanding of karma continues. As a player, I’d have him back. As a man, he can do one.
  13. Makes perfect sense, the idea of team spirit was the foundation of Fergie’s success. Lost on some though.
  14. Not all of them (almost half) came through our actual academy to this stage so recruitment at the younger ages is still off form. Apparently most of the decent young kids from Southampton end up at Chelsea as we prefer nice kids instead of taking a chance on the kids from Southampton’s inner city.
  15. A decent/really good centre forward and a starting centre back (Vestergaard if he is coming) and losing FF and Boufal would be decent business. Then there are those not good enough for the squad (most of the players who have come through of late) who need to go out on loan or be sold.
  16. Agree on the dislike for the player but that’s a peculiar point of view given the impact Carrillo had on games we saw him in compared to Long.
  17. It’s an Under Armour thing. It’s for athletes who want to push themselves to the limit, not regular fans. Until they get that Adidas and Nike make stuff for people with no interest in being athletes they’ll continue this way. Anyway, you can still easily buy a rain jacket for £800 if you can afford it so £120 is not as expensive as some.
  18. Is it still a rule that homegrown players don’t need to be included in that number? If so, that’s a chunk of players removed from the 29 listed
  19. The latest Norweigian to join the ranks? Looking likely according to sky sources
  20. Good signing and should be hungry to prove his value, which is a plus for a side where that has been lacking considerably. Welcome to the latest Saint Armstrong
  21. All these BBC pundits suggesting Shaqiri is a good player. Absolutely no idea what they’re talking about compared with the Saintsweb experts
  22. Heard that other clubs are just able and willing to pay more than we are so it might be a difficult summer, especially when it comes to signing English players. International players might be easier as premier league clubs can pay more but sounded like we wouldn’t or couldn’t compete with other PL clubs.
  23. The wonderful Marian Pahars aka the ‘Latvian Michael Owen’ was pretty good although obviously Iniesta would be too short for the premier league
  24. Good: Cup final Bad: selling so many players and not replacing with decent quality/the decline of the academy Ugly: people using the word ‘recycle’ when referring to patterns of play in football by some on this forum. No football people use this, it is from rugby and is ugly as fug
  25. Maybe he got it in Hong Kong then travelled home to Australia. Pretty easy to do in 2018
