Congratulations on your victory - thoroughly deserved - we were utterly pathetic, unacceptable even and you more than punished us for our continued lacklustre performances. Wanyama is an absolute beast in midfield - although should have received a yellow card. He'll do very well for you in this division. Best of luck for the remainder of the season.

Be interesting to see how we shall line up - we've operated a number of systems throughout pre-season - all of which seemed to have worked fairly well. Foster Jones McAuley Olsson Ridgewell Mulumbu Yacob Dorrans Anelka Morrison Rosenberg Subs: Myhill, Brunt, Lugano, Vydra, Long, Berahino, Popov The link up play between Anelka, Morrison and Dorrans has been very promising. Anelka, despite aging has shown in pre-season that he still carries his class. He, naturally has dropped deep into midfield and rather orchestrated play allowing Dorrans and Morrison to get closer to Rosenberg who has suddenly found the goals in pre-season and for that reason alone shall probably keep Shane Long out the side. I wouldn't be surprised to see Brunt start in place of Dorrans to be honest which would be unfair because throughout pre-season, he has showed the kind of form which made him a fans favourite down here a few seasons ago.

Thanks for the replies. Most grateful. http://westbrom.com/forum/index.php?topic=11837.0

Can't see Vydra starting yet given he won't have had any training with the side. I'd expect Anelka and Rosenberg to start up-front. They have both very good in pre-season.

Apologies to the forum administrators if this breaks any rules. Q1: What were your opinions of your first season back in the Premier League? Q2: What are your expectations for the upcoming season? Q3: What are you expecting from West Brom this season? Q4: Happy with the clubs transfer business so far? Q5: What other positions need adding to before the close of the transfer window? Q6: Favourite memories of games against West Brom? Q7: Worst memories of games against West Brom? Q8: The previous game between the sides finished 0-3. What were your opinions on this game? Q9: And finally, score predictions Thank you to those which take part and I wish those traveling to the Hawthorns on Saturday a very safe journey.

Nothing wrong with either providing they're not done frequently. Our fancy dress is usually our last away game of the season where we have a similar carnival atmosphere to yesterday and as for Mexican waves, bar yesterday I cannot even think of the last time we did it. Probably the last time we did was when Portsmouth tried starting one at The Hawthorns a few years ago in our Great Escape season. Had we participated in a Mexican Wave every week, I would take your point that it's annoying and cringe-worthy but it was something spontaneous yesterday in not only enjoyment at our superb season but the failure and demise at those clubs which are located around us - if we can't enjoy ourselves now then we never will.
-
Our support tends to carry a lot of people who I would say are 50/60+ therefore the majority of our followings end up with supporters sitting down. We've tried creating singing sections away from home for those which wish to stand but stewards become a nuisance and in the end the scheme had it's plug pulled. Yesterday was just a party day for us. We're having our best season since our great side in the seventies. Our local rivals are both in turmoil with one on the brink of league one football so it was understandable that our chants would be us relishing in their demise. I'm not a lover of Mexican waves but I thought ours was fitting as not only did it get supporters on their feet but it continued the pee take and party atmosphere we intended to create. I was expecting much more noise from the home fans, however, I appreciate you had nothing to sing about and hopefully on my visit next season, you make up for the noise which was missing yesterday. I was sat in Block 47 and the stand to my left spent most of the time complaining, waving their arms around rather than vocally backing their side - no doubt we would have been the same had the roles been reversed. People can critcise the Mexican waves by all means but we're not really bothered. We're intent on enjoying one of our greatest seasons and likewise when we head to Norwich, we'll go in fancy dress and be critcised for that too, but the modern way amongst football supporters is that if it doesn't include someone carrying a flare or someone leading some organised chanting with lots of flags and banners then it's considered cringeworthy - this isn't an attack on any of you, but more so the way supporters in this country are creaming themselves over the European fanbase which in fairness, is pretty good but these people need to understand we'll will never have those scenes here.

SAINTS 0-3 West Bromwich Albion // Post-Match Reaction
Liam_Baggies replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Well, it's fair to say that the Albion surprised even me. I was expecting much more of our on the beach, lethargic performances but thankfully we saw a resemblence of the West Brom in the earlier parts of the season where we defended well, were ruthless in-front of goal and played with good intensity. I was expecting you to batter us to be honest so it came as a pleasent surprise to see us control large parts of the game and take our chances when they came along. There wasn't a bad performer for us thankfully, the back five were incredibly solid as usual, the midfield were the same with Claudio Yacob being the lynch pin and our three forwards were very effective in causing your back four problems - it's something I'd like to see us do more often as it suited us down to the ground. I thought our fans were excellent to, probably our great following support of the season. Scoring an early goal and the decline in Staffordshire certainly helped to raise the spirits. The majority of our chanting was taking the pee out of Wolves but on occasions like that, I think we can be excused of chanting about them. It's probably the first time we've taken the mickey all season and yesterday was just a carnival atmosphere at our great season and their rapid decline. I was expecting a poor atmosphere given how many numbers we were taking but thankfully I was wrong. Also thought the referee had a very good game getting the three challenges spot on - the actions of Ramirez and Fox were both cowardly and Fortune didn't cover himself in much glory either. Overall, a very good day and best of luck with the remainder of the season and next year. The **** are going down! (again)! -
http://westbrom.com/forum/index.php?topic=11282.0 There's the finished article. Thank you for your insightful posts. Without doubt the best edition we've done this season so thank you. Apologies to those which didn't make it into the article. I've just had to spend the last half hour removing some posts so I can fit the article within our 20,000 character limit!

Ashworth was responsible for the day to day running of the football club. The chairman sat back and allowed Ashworth to run the academy, sports science and recruitment. We have scouts across the world who report to Ashworth. He then goes and watches them in person. Our chairman says that every player must be scouted over a six month period. Its been a massive blow to lose him, however, he has been replaced by our legal secretary Richard Garlick. The role is quite new to English Football and it's incredibly hard to find a person who can cover all aspects of the job role. Garlick has worked as understudy to Ashworth and over the last few months, Ashworth has been guiding Garlick with the role. He's moved on now however still comes back one day a week to do a "consultancy role". Another key element in our appointment of Garlick was finding someone who would be able to work with our Chairman who is incredibly hard to get along - primarily because he runs a tight ship. Abrasive, loud characters wouldn't have been ideal.

Indeed, 8th is a great achievement for a club of our size. We've taken 17 points since November which in anybodies book is cause for concern - it hasn't helped that the performances have also dipped but for the majority of those games through December, January, February and to an extent March, we've been without Yacob and Mulumbu. A partnership which has been so important to our success. Whenever one of those is missing the balance of the side is effected and the performances don't match those of when they are there. The stats prove it. What doesn't help is that Mulumbu picks up a ridiculous red card and for three games we're back to struggling again. We were quite fortunate to get a point on Saturday because throughout the first half we were undoubtedly second best and the game should quite possibly have been behind us.
-
Not looking forward to this - It will be my last away day of the season so I would like us to finish it off for me in style but If I'm being honest - it won't be happening. We start the first half of games incredibly slow. We just look so cumbersome and one paced, your intensity and dynamism will cause us great problems from the start. Retaining the ball has been a struggle at times, especially when we've been pressed by the opposition so I expect that to continue on Saturday when you again press our midfield. Without Mulumbu (who takes part in his third match of his suspension) our midfield lacks any energy and tempo. He really is an outstanding player with so many facets to his game. With the loss of Odemwingie, we've lost our directness on the wings, he's been replaced by Graham Dorrans who is a very good footballer but not made out for being that wide midfielder for a team which relies heavily on counter attacking football. In addition to this, our defence which has looked so good all season is also having a wobble with both our centre halves losing that solidity which has been accustomed to them for the best part of two years. I'm looking forward to the day but I'll no doubt be coming home disappointed - Saints 3 Albion 0.
