Maybe some of us don't care if we appointed Pep. No problems with the new manager and no idea how he'l perform ... its the hows and whys that make me ashamed of what NC has done to OUR club. (Yeah fine it's his business but a football club, this football club, is more then that).
-
Thanks, nice to know im not alone. I understand some of us are more bothered than others but I wont criticise those who want to keep quiet at the everton game so as not to upset the team and I'd hope they'd respect that others feel differently.
-
Fair point but im not talking about whos names on the deed. But business speaking if we, the fans, all decided that a line had been crossed (obviously this is not everyone line but it is for some people ...) and stopped going to games, buying merchandise, publically supporting the club ... etc the "business" becomes almost valueless. Sponsors, sky etc arent interested in a team without any fans or atmosphere, players dont want to play in front of empty crowds ... a stadium that loses money isnt actually worth that much except as land (though the council are hardly likely to turn it over to housing etc) ... I promise the rant has a point. We the fans retain the power for our club, yes it's much easier for a chairman to wield his power but dont forget we have a voice and can, and should, make our opinions known.

The fans were there before Cortese and we'l be there after him. He owns the busines but the club is much more than that and the club belongs to the fans and the city. Just look at them lot down the road, if Cortese get's bored and walks it'l be us picking up the pieces, nobody else.
-
I for one said i'd stick with him even if we went back down, he has all the makings on a world class coach and had been improving along with our squad. Even if I didnt think this yesterdays events were wrong and an embarassment for us as a club. I wont presume to tell you how to react but im genuinely gutted, I thought, well hoped Cortese was better then such underhand cowardly nonsense.

To be fair he had done rather better then average at his FIRST attempt with a newly promoted side still with the remnants of a league one squad -

A team pardew had near toe foot of the table. NA turned them around. The same side, without major additions, went up through a very competitive championship. Just look at the sides in that league throwing money around and getting nowhere. Look how long its taken Cardiff to even look like getting out? We were 15th and in good form, we've had injuries, a difficult run of fixtures and yet were really on the up and january would've only helped that. But heck let's not let all of that get in the way of the fact he's not a s****y foreign coach who promises to play some "new attacking football" which has been such an alien concept to us under NA ... hold on a minute ... -

Two promotions and fiteenth average? Where would a "good" manager have had us then? -

Because one is a public way to show Cortese how we feel and the other will perhaps show a few people in the club shop ... -

Crikey Im stll finding myself shocked by how different some peoples views on this. Yes, entertaining football is great but I was there for the Chelsea cup game, the dross that was wigan and sunderland no entertainment there ... but its more then that, theres more to being entertained to supporting a club for me. For me, and others, our club (not cortese's club to be clear, he's essentially just a steward) is being run in a disgraceful way and are not simply prepared to say "that was yesterday this is today". -
They went from relegation fodder to fa cup winners bringing in players they cant afford. You dont KNOW we have money, its only assumed. Not many people actually know all the ins and outs of the loan business. Im just saying it'd be foolish not to ask questions and want clarity. NC's motivation is, frankly, up for speculation. He has said it's all quite noble when he rolled up but I think we all know what his word counts for
-
We should openly trust him why exactly? I think the lot down the road have taught us to question whats going on at our club.
-
Valid point. To be fair though if that was the reason then i'd have liked NC to come out in a press conference and say "this is what I did, I've done it properly, this is why. not popular by judge me on results". Dont get me wrong I wouldnt be jumping for joy but I could accept that and not be such a big girls blouse about it all
-
When did I call for his head exactly? Timesaver, I didnt. What im after is a change in the way things are done, a bit of transparancy, and perhaps even a proper thank you for NA other then the pitiful "acknowledgment" he got on the nonsense statement put out. Results arent the only factor for me. Important yes but i'd hope you'd agree not everything. Southampton were always prided on doing things the right way and this aint it. Results yes but not at all costs. Look im not being silly or unrealistic im just not happy with how our clubs being run, fair?
-
Sack him "mid season" after he had the team playing well, bringing through two of the most exciting young talents we've seen of late, picking up points and looking one or two signings short of being a very strong side ... Your reasoning amazes me!
-
Spot on. Would winning a bit of silverware be amazing? You bet! But it's not always that black and white what we count as "success" ...
-
No matter what league we're in next season im still appalled and ashamed by yesterdays events and I imagine im certainly not alone. If you want to draw a line under it thats fine and I respect your decision to do so as a fellow fan but dont be shocked if plenty of others arent so ready to let this one drop.
-
Yes and no. The game can be different. Just look at fan ownership models in this country, the entire german league (basically) ... I agree that Cortese just fits a pattern of whats going on around us but whats so wrong with wanting to do things differently? We could call it "the southampton way" ...
-
Actually no, no it's not. You might have been there. If we behaved like this time and time again, showed no regard for the fans or the clubs traditions, had no hint of transparency or loyalty then i'd honestly rather not be a part of it.
-
Maybe ... but at what cost? If I genuinely woke up and thought we were the same as Chelsea I dont think I could support "that" southampton. Trophies are lovely and all that but there's more to a football club, at least I'd hope
-
Are you suggesting anybody who creates a negative atmosphere must be a pompey fan? Well NC caused it ... are you suggesting its a very elaborate and sinister plot? If he actually being financed by Milan Mandaric from offshore and through Rosie the Dog's monaco account?
-
Im going to support my team. Funnily enough thats why I paid a rather unreasonable sum to do so But I don't think Cortese will notice half as much what's going on before and after as he will during. Even if he's not watching protest during the match are always likely to gain more media attention and thus his. That and, frankly, between trains before and after the game and a cheeky hotdog I wont have time!
-
Maybe the players might be hundred percent thrilled with the decision and a few chants supporting NA will spur them on to a dramatic victory?
-
I think you'l find plenty of people will make their feelings known during the game. I will be one of them. May I ask, is there anything NC could do that would make you want to portest during a game? Anything that might make you think, hmm maybe it's not all about the three points this week?
