Poch is gone and the only way to keep our players from jumping ship is to recruit a bigger name and fast. De Boer is a world wide footballing name, good manager, will command respect and have us playing that total football we were promised 6 years ago!

They got him for 8mil when in the premiership, surely can't make profit. I don't get the fuss to be honest. Currently England's most desperate position is centre back, to the point where smalling and a last ditch look at stones is our only option for a 4th centre back. If caulker was worth that much and considered better than fonte, why did everyone write him off for England. Put it this way, after this season, if he was English, fonte would have been in the England squad. I wouldn't want a player that is considered worse than Chris smalling.

Listening to the Greg dyke debate on talksport it got me thinking about our transfer policy. The point of the B leagues are to get young English players playing, however there is a ceiling of no promotion past league 1 for B teams, therefore providing no more than a loan move would anyway. My point is that it doesn't help young English talent rising to the top and playing first team football for top 6 clubs. Therefore wouldn't it be beneficial for us to play to our strengths and poach top young talent from the academies of big sides, with the obvious benefit being the best fast track chance to having a career in the premier league. Parents and the young players themselves would surely see the benefits of following the likes of Lallana, bale, Walcott, ox, Shaw, Jwp, chambers etc. Therefore our policy could be buying youngsters with the potential to become top class players, moulding them and giving them the chance, for minimal cost whilst obviously still spending some money on plugging immediate first team holes.

Thought the twirling scarce to owts looked excellent on tv. Starting to think we need a new gimmick, but dull at sms otherwise.

England World Cup Squad - Lambert, Lallana and Shaw included
studentsaint replied to Batman's topic in The Saints
Flanaghan will go ahead of Clyne/chambers. I'd personally have 1 rb and if injured smalling or Jones fill in, giving us an extra midfielder. Don't rate smalling but let's face it he's going, cb is so poor for England. -
The guys making a very valid point that this is our best points tally in a long while. What's the need for pedantic nonsense about pre and post premier league? The team has achieved massive results for 2nd season in the prem.

We got 52 points in 02/03

Marshall - Cardiff Very optimistic but garay - benfica Paterson - forest, great raw talent and who better to learn from than j rod and Lallana? Hernandez - utd, goals goals goals if he plays regular football.

All that moaning about us pocketing the grant whilst everyone else used there's. Saying it was used to upgrade coaches. That all seems very laughable now...

Rob Elliot or Karl darlow to challenge boruc, best keeper starts.

I ask this because the first half of our season we kept clean sheet after clean sheet but we're really struggling for goals. Now when I think about our game against city or transfers in the summer, I tend to have much more confidence in our strikers. We are much more free scoring but conceding more goals, so I wonder if the mentality of the whole team under MP at the moment is to be more expansive rather than containing, or just that players have improved/dropped in perfirmance?

Playing on itv 4 right now if anyone's interested.

If wanyamas out that's a great shame, I feel the most powerful cms in the division him and toure. If he's back he's in for cork just for toure, otherwise Morgan for Jwp and j rod has to scare the life out of demechelis very very early.

I found out the other day that SD is only 29. Did anyone else think he was well into his 30's? Don't know if it's the fact he's been around for over 10 years, is an international captain or is just playing with a very youthful squad, but was very happy to find out he has many years left in him yet.

Complaint against Peter Schmeichel's on MOTD2
studentsaint replied to Saint_John's topic in The Saints
If I were to complain, it would be regarding what he was sporting on his chin over anything else. -
This is the first summary of SD that has made any sense to me. His interaction for instance with Clyne at Fulham for lamberts goal. People also think going forward he is void of ideas and penatration compared to Gaston, but I think the case is simply that he waits for an opportunity. He would rather keep possesion then force chances. Against palace he needs to play as we need to match their workmanlike mentality.

Teams getting relegated from the PL and potential signings
studentsaint replied to doddisalegend's topic in The Saints
Declan john, liam ridgewell, Ben Davies (although I don't see Swansea going down). Wouldn't buy any player from the likely relegation candidates for our first team but wouldn't mind these as backup for Shaw. -
If Lallana can get a move to a top 4 side he will be a regular England international, getting over 50 caps. That's all he needs to be a shoe in every time a squad is announced.
-
Hernandez and Remy may be possible. But I'd look at Chelsea, take whoever is 4th/5th choice there. I'd happily take likely, schurrle or ba off their hands. I'm being optimistic but that's what we need if we want 20 goals a season.
-
I don't understand why if someone might be given a chance in midfield that Davis has to make way. This man is so underrated. He has been key for us this season and players like him allow us to get the beat out of our chamber's, lallanas, Rodriguez etc.

I think Shaw v sterling could be very influential in hodgsons squad decision for Brazil.

I don't believe that cork has done enough but is he the closest thing to a ball winning midfielder that England have? I don't see a holding midfield tackler mentioned apart from Barry.
