Thanks for that...interesting read.

Plugging one of my favourites...again. People won't say, "Hey she sounds like..." she doesn't sound like anyone else. The video is good/a bit wacky, but her voice has a restrained power...you know she could blow you out of the water at any time.

I'm patting myself on the back for not coming to the tread last night after getting home after the game. Yes the knee-jerkers were out in force doing what they do best...hysteria. This morning however, in the cold light of day we have the more rational posters...thanks "AdrianC" and a couple of others who contribute well thought out posts.

From a live BBC 6 Music session. Looking forward to their forthcoming new album, (23rd Feb) "The Race for Space."...hope it's up to this standard.

Pellé getting some stick from our fans.....fair or not?

Hot and Cold...it's what happens to forwards no matter how good...get over it. When cold his considerable presence will make space for others...he's never a waste of space. -
After reading what he was saying about Man City and FFP in The Times today I can see where he's coming from. Yes Chelsea have also played cheque book football in the past but with the advent of FFP they have publicly said they will abide by it whilst Man City seem to have no such intent. To punish the mega-rich clubs with just a financial penalty doesn't make for a level playing field...hitting them with a substantial points deduction will.

He will do if he comes anywhere near me in The Chapel...cocky twonk!

If you're wearing a backpack in a confined space, (e.g. Train, Bus, Football Stadium etc) expect to be beaten to a pulp you f***ing selfish inconsiderate road-block. Apart from that hope you enjoy the experience.

When a transaction breaks down both parties will be unhappy. Who is to blame depends on what side of the transaction you are on. Move on...

I got as far as Westwood trying to look "respectable" (but failing miserably) so on that basis it was worth the laugh but certainly wasn't going to give it any more of my valuable time.

Ince can't get into the starting line-up of a struggling Hull side...seems like a lifetime ago he was looked upon here as a good prospective signing. Bruce for the chop this weekend?

Is that just his head...or his whole body?

For all Calexico fans...and I suppose that means everyone (i.e. Me, SuperMikey, TheCholulaKid, saintbletch et al) the new album "Edge of the Sun" is released on April 14, 2015.

On the subject of touring I was driving through Abbey Park Industrial Estate in North Baddesley this morning and passed this company's compound... http://www.phoenix-bussing.co.uk/#!/splash Have a look at the bus interiors...nobody of note roughs it anymore. Have a look at their client list too.

Are they doing pensioner's concessions? I'm not sure I have the stamina or the inclination to do festivals anymore...even for Sufjan Stevens. Concerts are more to my liking these days.

On this day (January 25) in 1958, Elvis Presley's "Jailhouse Rock" entered the UK charts at No.1; the first record to do so.

Listening to Radcliffe and Maconie on 6 Music yesterday afternoon and this came on... [video=youtube;jqWt49o7R-k] Wow...she epitomises everything the modern female pop singer, (and Shirley Bassey) isn't. Cool, smooth, tasteful, understated...just a wonderful singer...great song too. Elvis was a wasted talent...I know it's a cliche (but it's true) not the same after he came out of the army.

Well I love it all. Like everybody we absorb influences and develop and so it should be with musicians. I think she's an exemplar of this, if you don't add those life experiences to your music you stagnate and repeat yourself until you fade away. Maybe she has become, "precious and arrogant and bitter"...that's how she's portrayed, she's an artist and she exhibits a lot of human failings. I find that more reassuring than that she were a media luvvie...she's never been that. Still interesting to listen to...this is cut from a much longer interview recorded before her 70th birthday...

Ouch that's gotta hurt...for a Canadian.

Ha! Such a pure voice...very much in the Joan Baez style with a noticeable vibrato at that time. Just an amazing songwriter from an early age. This sound only video is from 1967, recorded for a Philidelphia radio station... It's only a year before her first album with a lot of songs from that first recording with the vibrato still in evidence but in that year she largely eliminated the vibrato which, I think distanced her from her folksy roots. These early recordings have only surfaced in the last 10 years so I was brought up with the straight delivery sans vibrato, I'm pleased to say. Not that I don't like these early recordings but she discovered her own style in the coming years.
