  1. I was in the Milton end and for most of that game we were packed so tightly my feet hardly touched the ground...and I'm 6'2" and 13 stone.
  2. Phew that reference flew way over the head of 95% of the posters here... Not me though.
  3. Personally I think Arry is the perfect England manager. Let's face it we've all written off England so it doesn't matter who they appoint. Give him a job where he can't create a financial disaster area and a job where inevitably, (no matter how well it starts) the media end up making a laughing stock of them in BANNER HEADLINES. What a perfect end to a dodgy career.
  4. Can we have an end to this pointless repetition mods...a topic that needs to be euthanased before it sends the rest of us off to the funny farm.
  5. Don't tell me...you're the only one on the motorway who doesn't "rubberneck" when you see a car crash on the other carriageway. We know it's not nice but you can't help but look.
  6. Why? I don't think any of us know what was written in Ron's will. I wouldn't be surprised he wanted to be interred next to his beloved wife Chris...nothing to be disgusted about there.
  7. He conducts all dealings in the media...any respectable manager would do all his discussions on transfer policy in the privacy of the Boardroom. The guy is a Media Whore of the top order.
  8. Let's lay this b*****ks about gatemen being on the fiddle letting in two kids in for the price of one...how would that work as a fiddle?? It wasn't a fiddle, this was "accepted practice" when I was a kid. We used to stand under the East Stand and there was a single entry price of 2/6d. There wasn't a price for kids it was a flat 2/6d so when my dad and his mate took us kids to a game (and that was every home game) they would ask "OK to squeeze two kids in for one?"...the gateman would nod and me and my mate would squeeze through with one click of the turnstile. The 2/6p was paid for the single click of the gate. Now I know the gateman who was done for this practice at the Archers and he is as true and honest a man as you'd wish to meet. He made nothing from this and lost a great deal (thankfully not his day job)...for maybe naively continuing an unofficial Saints tradition.
  9. Thanks for that Duncan...I'll be listening.
  10. Just renewed after the same shenanagins. Wouldn't recognise my customer number but as "harefieldsaint" says if you add a zero when retrieving your password it will send you a new password. However if you use the modified customer number (with the extra zero prefix) and login with the newly supplied password it won't find your existing account. So you logout and then login with your original customer number (sans the extra zero) and the newly supplied password it will find your account. What a f**kin' pallava.
  11. I would love it if we could bring him home...but of course I don't know of his final wishes.
  12. He's written a very nice heartfelt piece here: http://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/football/southampton/fb_mb.php?m=v&t=81743#25
  13. Looks like the Veracity Ground...that had dog s**t to contend with too.
  14. Hmmm yep that's what I thought when I started but it was an ancient file extension; can't remember exactly what it was as I lost it in a computer melt-down a couple of years ago. The original will have to be retrieved from Duncan so you can have a go with it. Hope we can get a good quality version uploaded. I reply to your PM shortly.
  15. Yesterday was a very sad day for all we older Saints fans but along with all the happy memories of the "Big Man" there's a certain amount of bitterness that there is not more about the man on the Internet. Three years ago I contacted Duncan Holley because the YouTube video of Ron scoring his 4 goals at Old Trafford had gone missing and I thought if anyone had a copy, Duncan would be the man. Sure enough Duncan came up with the goods; the highlights from ITV’s “The Big Match” and an interview with the man himself. The footage had been copied from a VHS tape onto a CD ROM and was of a good quality so I set about uploading it to YouTube. This is where I ran into difficulties. Although the CD ROM would play well enough on my PC when I tried to upload it to YouTube it wouldn’t recognise the video format. I transferred it to Window Video Maker hoping this would convert the original format into something I could upload. To cut a long story short this threw up more problems than it solved. Finally a mate offered to come around and we’d video the footage from my PC screen and upload it that way. So what you see today on YouTube is an inferior copy of the original Duncan supplied. The events of this week have just gone to remind me of the poor quality of just about the only Internet footage of Ron Davies in his prime. What we need from you is someone experienced in video transfer…possibly a professional in this field who can finally do the “Big Man” justice. A reminder of what was uploaded: Part 1 – Edited highlights Part 2 – Big Match Interview
  16. Gutted to hear the news...my favourite player from that era. Sad to say he has been criminally written out of English Football because, I suppose, he played most of his top flight games for an unfashionable club. Try to find video footage of "Big Ron" at the top of his game and you'll not find much...just the two clips from the game in 1969 when he scored all four goals against Man United at Old Trafford. I was so annoyed to find even those clips went missing on YouTube a few years ago that I contacted "Fitzhugh Fella" to see if we could resurrect the video clip somehow. He sent me a VHS video and although I wasn't able to convert the video for YouTube upload, with the assistance of a mate's video camera we refilmed it off my PC screen, hence the poor quality for the "YouTube" footage. However here are the links for those who haven't found them yet. Part 1 – Edited highlights Part 2 – Big Match Interview RIP Big Ron...I don't expect to see a better header of the ball in my lifetime.
  17. I was wondering, as we're at a point now where looking on the skates as rivals is rather pointless should we stop singing the Que Sera song. I find it embarrassing that something that figures like sinking rowing boat on the horizon...viewed through the wrong end of a telescope, should be afforded a page in the Saint's Songbook. Do Manure sing songs about Accrington Stanley?
  18. I saw KD at SMS once. I put my hand out and he tipped me round the post..."how did you know I was a taxi driver" I said. He smiled and winked at me. Great guy!
  19. He's just tweeted from Harrods!! You know what this means...he's going to FULHAM!!
  20. I just like thank the OP for this pointless waste of time...I love it. Such is the power of its distraction I used it this afternoon to avoid listening to the match commentary from Sunderland...I was too intestine-twistingly nervious to listen.
  21. Yep I have my ticket and I'm loving their album too. Probably be the oldest one in the place...but not WWII old. Sorry for the highjack...that colour film from the OP is amazing...like you can step right into it.
  22. How true...left turn instead of a right at the Panama Canal and there you are.
  23. I've got a couple to within a km. It helps when you have signposts of course but some of the rural ones are impossible..guessed the tip of South America on one...turned out to be Alaska. Good fun though...thanks.
  24. If you've not caught this band yet...you need to: They make use of BFI archive and COI footage amongst other vintage film sources.
