  1. WILCO!...loved them forever...what a f***kin' great band. Still breathless from watching this.
  2. I somehow memorised the spot where Matt had swivelled to smash that ball into the net. It hadn't surprised me as I had imagined that exact climax to the final game in my mind many times in the week leading up to the game...just a physical confirmation of expectation. I was in the Milton halfway back just to the left of the goal so I had indelibly referenced the position on the pitch in my mind. After the final whistle against Brighton the following Saturday I walked straight onto the pitch and dug up that hallowed piece of turf. I nurtured and tended that piece of turf, (let-into my back garden lawn) for years. Despite the dog using it as a latrine in recent years I still like to think that historic piece of turf lives on in my garden...along with every other Saints fan who dug up their idea of where the historic spot was located.
  3. Haha...I saw him at The Isle of Wight...oh when was it?? I can't remember and to be honest I can't remember much about the set so I won't be crying about missing out on a fallen idol at a crap venue for extortionate money. Apart for that...let us know how it goes.
  4. Jeez...City are trying to walk it into the net...so many wasted chances.
  5. Hmmm...somebody's p**sed on Gerrard's chips...oh dear.
  6. Michigan was my first Sufjan album and was immediately taken with it. When Illinois arrived I immediately put the headphones on and started it...by track 5 I wanted to run into the street to proclaim his genius and by the end was prepared to lobby to fast-track his route to Sainthood. I'm not a religious person but there are gems of stunning beauty on his Christmas albums and Seven Swans.
  7. Hmmm...if the fee they get runs into four figures it could signal a whole new rebuilding programme...team and stadium.
  8. I posted at exactly the same time in "The Arts" http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?54205-The-BB-King-Appreciation-Thread&p=2186685&posted=1#post2186685
  9. I so remember this...the highlight of Live Aid for me and the missus...1985 Quite tearful this morning watching this.
  10. The King is dead Who's to say he wasn't the greatest Bluesman ever...certainly will be seen in the years to come as a TRUE legend. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-32747861
  11. There were always clues to his disfunctional upbringing in his earlier work too...this is probably one of the saddest but strangely uplifting...call it a prelude to Carrie & Lowell...
  12. I'm always wary of recommending Sufjan to others...he's someone you either "get" or you don't; I know it's a cliche but it's true. Here comes another couple of cliches...the whole is greater than the sum of the parts and there's something "magical" about his music. Lord knows there are enough parts if you listen to albums like "Michigan" and "Illinois", multi-layered, you can listen to them for years and are still surprised by things you've missed in the past. The remarkable thing is on first listen they seem simple but reveal themselves a little at a time. If you read the reviews on Amazon for "Illinois" you begin to realise the effect he has on people...OK Amazon isn't the most critical of places to get a balanced view but it does give you an idea of the reverence he draws from his fans/lovers. For me "Illinios" is the entry...sit relax, put the headphones on an listen to it in one go.
  13. I think from what he says there are few other clubs in The Premier League who could match his ideals...I'm not being over partisan...just can't see anyone else who ticks all those boxes.
  14. Yep a fine player...speedy recovery please.
  15. Making a welcome guest appearance from the "Who Do You Carry A Crusading Banner For” topic I give you two tracks from the forthcoming "Sweet Billy Pilgrim" album "Motorcade Amnesiacs".
  16. Ahh...I was as young as Mickey Channon back then...I suppose I'm still as young Fantastic day...I was talking to a neutral coming out of Wembley and he said he didn't think it was a very good game. I said, "you have no idea how good that game was!"
  17. He better score a few more goals during the run-in then.
  18. Yeah!! SPIDERMAN
  19. In the late '90s it was Calexico but they seem to be taking over The Arts forum on Saintsweb so I count that as a burgeoning higher profile. At the moment it has to be "Sweet Billy Pilgrim" whose continuing stunning album reviews and award nominations seems to be met with general public apathy. I think they've had two Mercury or Brits nominations and are still playing Patron's gigs and small pubs and clubs around London. I don't understand.
  20. I went to all the home games in the cup run despite playing on Saturday afternoons in the Southampton Senior League but the Semi was a different proposition. I didn't have the voucher required to secure a ticket but my mate had one. We decided the best way to get round this; two tickets needed from one voucher by a cunning ruse. We lightly sprayed the voucher with a silicon type varnish, he presented it at the box office, they duly stamped it and issued his ticket. Back to work we applied a little solvent on cotton wool and removed the stamp. I reappear at the box office and got my ticket...job done.
  21. Over a period of 50 plus years of conspicuous music consumption every now and again I find myself in a minority of one amongst friends; bleating on about this or that band/artist of whom most others are blissfully unaware. So let's hear about your current favourite “unsung heroes” (no apology for the pun) and maybe some successes/failures from the past. It would be fascinating to find others who had a thing about or even an album by, Beaver and Kraus, Pete Atkin, Paul Horn...
  22. Who are these Mumfords of whom you speak. Are they a beat combo or something?
