We are two matches into the season.

Rumours of this one not going away, despite Lambert saying Vlaar won't be sold and Koeman saying we won't be signing another centre half. Seems unlikely...
-
That would be completely mental. Far rather Targett got games than a 33-year-old on four times as much money, who we know to be not good enough for the prem. Signing old has-beens as 'back-ups' is never a good idea, with the possible exception of goalkeepers. That is what the academy is for.

Billy Sharp joins Leeds for Undisclosed fee
Cosmic replied to KelvinsRightGlove's topic in The Saints
Exactly - impossible to know. I think we could have used him at times last year. Hope the move goes well for him. -
That is a manager's job. It's how Ferguson made the current Man United team champions last year. And a team won't always be at it from the first whistle - remember when United were 3-0 down at half time at White Hart Lane a few years ago and then came out in the second half and scored five? I am fairly confident the manager had something to do with that, as he did on countless other occasions over the years. Having said that, Pochettino has to take a large portion of the blame for the first-half display as, by fielding the side he did, he sent out the message that he didn't value the outcome of the game.

I think we'll have to agree to disagree. Some of my fondest memories of following Saints are relegation dogfights of the 90s. We didn't play particularly good football, but it was dramatic and enthralling, and we had players on the pitch who would have died for the cause. When you talked about the 2005 season you forgot the mention the last-gasp win against Norwich and Higgi's late equaliser at Palace. No goal we score this season will bring the joy those did, because there is nothing riding on the rest of our games. The reason we look back at '05 the way we do is because we got relegated. What about the Great Escape in '99? I think most fans remember that year pretty fondly, but if we had lost to Everton on the last day we'd look at it very differently. I take great enjoyment from watching the football we play now, but there is now almost zero excitement left in our season. To throw away the chance of a great cup run the way we did was totally unacceptable and a disgrace to the club and the fans.
-
You are completely missing the point. The fact we got knocked out of the cup does not make our league season a failure. I'm going to Upton Park on Saturday and can't wait, but I would rather finish 17th and win the cup this year than go out in the disgraceful manner we did. Winning the FA Cup would be a great achievement and remembered forever; finishing 8th would not - it would be about par for the squad we have. And while I will enjoy and am looking forward to the last 12 games of the season, the truth is they ARE completely pointless. As for the West Ham game, I think we will win as the players will know just how angry the fans are about the Sunderland fiasco and will want to make amends as soon as possible.

Really? Would you tell your grandkids about it?
-
That's clearly not what people are miserable about.
-
It pains me that people like you can vote.

Why bother with a keeper? And do we really need four defenders? Surely we'd be better off getting 11 forwards on the pitch..?

Red and White Stripes Black Shorts next year

What a load of balls. Bring back the stripes. -
The only club Lambert would be tempted by is Liverpool, but none of the big clubs would pay any money for a 31 year old with no pace. Everton is the only realistic club that would represent a serious step up for Lambert.
-
Agreed, but we could use his energy when we don't have the ball. He snaps at heels a lot more than the others we have.
-
Sacking Adkins won't change the fact that three of our back four are simply not good enough. We need Cork back, three new defenders in January and some confidence. Adkins said at beginning of window he wanted defenders. Not his fault we didn't get them. Next month is huge, but it's pathetic how many on here keep calling for the manager's head. The players need support and encouragement more than ever, not the utter mongs who moan and boo Guly before he's kicked a ball. Thankfully, the large majority of fans who actually go to games are a lot more supportive than the majority on here, though there are still a few who I'd swap for an empty seat. Our fans were terrific tonight.

I'm not saying we are playing well. At all.
-
Calm down bed-wetters. It's November. We're five points from safety. And there are still 20 minutes left.
-
Fox was with him every step of the way, he just wasn't quick enough.
-
If the deal was ever going to happen it would have done so by now, and you're all fools for actually believing we can attract this sort of player. We need to be more realistic. No, wait, I mean, keep the faith people - this IS going to happen! We're a Premier League club now and we all need to get used to signing this sort of player. Definitely think a top 4 finish is within reach now. Just trying to fit in.
-
Oh dear.
-
Surely not... don't be so hard on yourself! Agree though, Evans is the new John O'shea.
-
Have you been ill?
-
Put the bottle down... you've had enough.
-
This sums it up perfectly.

sort of win that champions get. simple.
