Oh don't get me wrong, I'm not blaming voters of either persuasion. But simply saying Labour went to war, and ignoring the fact that the Tories were supportive is a bit silly.

I'm honestly at a loss as to what you are getting at? The facepalm in that post wasn't at you. Of Course he had some poor signings, he was there over a quarter of a century. No manager has a 100% hit rate. And yeah, he still did alright, so the whole thing is a bit daft. -

You alright mate? -
Isn't this the sort of sh!te UKIP are supposed to oppose? I'm sure they would be as accommodating to Muslims, Sikhs, Jews or any other religion, right? Also, seriously, 'Christian Manifesto'. This country long since stopped being religious. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/general-election-2015/11566605/Ukip-offers-Christians-who-object-to-gay-marriage-special-legal-protection.html

Oh yeah, sure man. That is essentially to say all transfers are lucky, which to some extent is true. But not in the way you are trying to get at. I honestly don't think Heskey was as bad as he was made out. Never going to be the most glamorous player, but that was never his game. Was very good at Leicester, good at Liverpool and hardly did bad (was often reasonably popular) at his other clubs. -
Spring loaded calves that lad. His leap is unreal.

Worth mentioning the Tories supported the war as well.

if you put it this way, they basically swapped Torres (who was clearly not right at that point) for Carroll & Suarez, ok they put in about £8m(ish) in themselves, but still they received about £85/90m back on they investment. Still not awful really. That said, eff it's Liverpool. I really don't like them. -
Generally, I'm inclined to agree. That said though, if a decent offer for JRod came in, I have to admit I'd be tempted. It seems he isn't keen to commit his future, and there is no guarantee he will be as good as he was before (can go either way with injuries like his). Also not sure how unlikely Austin would be, seems attainable I'd have thought. I think Ings would be unlikely, with rumoured interest from Spurs, 'Pool & United apparently sniffing around. Both would be good signings though. Unsure on Reed, I like him, but he's no where near as expansive as Morgan. I think HR can go on to be a good player, but havn't seen anything to suggest he has the passing range of Morgan.

Remember how disappointed people were with Bertrand? Granted I wasn't jumping for joy, but it was clear that we weren't just flogging everything off and looking for cheap replacements. The intention was clearly to try and replace with quality. Granted not everything came off, but from the point we got Koeman it was clear this was the plan. Sure it will be the same this summer. Can understand us not being able keep everyone, as we long as we at least try to replace with quality, I'm more than happy.

Thanks.

Au délà Dover? sorry, most likely me being dim. Also, what's €36m? About £25m(ish)

Just started watching this with the gf. I liked the first ep, unsure on the second. It seems like it could all get rather silly? Though, I 'spose you have to allow for some of that, it being Marvel n all. Still, it's far better than what I expected when I first saw of it. To be honest, if it wasn't for folk mentioning it on here, I wouldn't have given it a second thought. Also just finished the first season of The Bridge. That's a really good show, can see why it was so popular. Even managed to keep me engrossed enough for a whole season with sub-titles. I don't have the greatest attention span when I'm sat watching something, so it says something that this managed to. Some really interesting interactions between the characters, unexpected deaths and an excellent lead character in Saga. Also slightly intrigued by the fact it seems I have picked up a few (seriously, very few) Swedish phrases from work, we have a large contingent of them here. Didn't expect that

Hope you have some luck man. Tis a bit of a risk, as the tickets generally pop up on there last min. But as I said, it seems to work pretty well. Ha, that's quite an interesting line up. Have taken the gf to see JW a couple of times now, she's really good.

Dude does have form, look at this terrible example of the famed Stevie Starfish: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBuOEI2Kk5o Ok, I lie that isn't him diving. But quite frankly, any excuse.

FYI for The Cat (and might be of use to you Bletch), that new alerts feature on Twickets is pretty good. You get an email as soon as a ticket is posted. Managed to get the Sharon van Etten tickets I was after. Pretty easy to set up too so I'd recommend giving it a look.

Ffs, good **** always happens when I'm away with work. tl;dr version of what went down?

Didn't Ralph say in an interview this season that wages had increased?

You don't have to be a millionaire to go to private school, yet it's still a massive leg up. Even if it is a tiny percentage of people, the amount of wealth these people hold and the % of positions of power/influence they hold massively outweighs their numbers. That aside, there are still plenty of things that make society an uneven playing field for people. Even not being rich, it's pretty clear that being a straight white dude (much like me) has it's advantages. Where you are born in the country (i.e. someone born in Middlesborough probably doesn't have the same opportunities as someone like me born in London), whether you are a man or woman (or trans), your race/ethnicity and many more factors come into play.
-
I was always a strong believer in equality of opportunity over equality of outcome, I think deep down I still am. However, this principle only works if society is fair to start with. It is blatantly obvious that isn't the case. One only needs to look at the make up of the Cabinet or 'The Rich List' to see this. The over representation of straight white dudes, who often went to private schools demonstrates how society isn't fair, so people are born with an advantage or disadvantage. Black men who grow up on inner city estates and go to schools in surrounding areas do not have anything like an equal opportunity to succeed as a white dude born into a wealthy family and going to a school that costs thousands a year to attend It's funny how the Tories are supposedly in favour of equality of opportunity, yet want to protect people's inheritance. It really lines up well with the mantra of "work hard and anything is possible", like all those millions Mr Cameron 'earned' from his aristocratic family. It's not about opportunity, it's about maintaining an imbalance. Hence why this idea of hard work is so important to them. Anyone who is worse off is because they simply do not work hard enough. It's nothing to do with a lack of social mobility. They are wealthy because they worked harder (or were fortunate enough to be born to a wealthy family), not because odds were already massively stacked in their favour. Or this, really.

Fair enough, you're generally pretty knowledgable so thought I'd ask. I have less than no idea. They do still have 3rd party ownership (for now, I think FIFA are wanting to crack down on that?) so I'm sure someone could help them out there. Though not sure how beneficial it is to take established names back to SA. They generally go for rising stars, before they get a big move to Europe. I think (could be wrong, basically I know v little about South American footy!)?
-
Do they have an equivalent of FFP in Argentina/South America?
-
But then I'd be a filthy parasitic immigrant, and everything wrong with my new home country. That's how it works, right?

This was pretty much my problem with him, as I've said before. I'm not a fan of his comedy, but his columns often raise some good points.
