Why the crossing was so poor? 'One of those nights' i.e. everyone was having a bit of an off day, not great conditions and Villa having almost everyman back at all times.

Not that I'm Yaya's biggest fan (that's not to say he isn't a fantastic player), but in his defence he did lose his brother over the summer. They were pretty close from the reports I saw, so it wouldn't be the biggest shock if that has had an impact on his form this season. It's not exactly great pre-season prep.

Been saying for a while, his transfers have been shocking. Other than Sturridge, you can't really call any of them an overwhelming success. Coutinho is undoubtedly a good player, but far too inconsistent to call him a really good signing. The rest? Well, half are totally ineffectual, some can't get near the team and some aren't even at the club anymore. He got a decent (probably harsh - they were effing lethal last year) partnership out of Sturridge and Suarez, fair play. Other than that, he really hasn't done a great. The Balotelli thing speaks volumes for me. BR thought he could 'handle' big egos/troubled players because Suarez wasn't sold and then had a storming season (didn't often show up in big games, but was unplayable for everyone else). Problem with that is: A) Suarez is an amazingly good player. His performance does not need managing. He has always been the sort of player that will run his socks off. B) LS was playing for a move. C) BR didn't really manage him. LS was still getting involved in controversies, biting, throwing himself down and just being a general tit. Balotelli is nothing like Suarez, and BR's ego has conflated the two. I usually try not to enjoy watching people struggle, but given his comments about Spurs last year (£100m should see you winning the league ) and his comments re: us in the summer. I'm going to enjoy every last minute of his suffering. Sorry Mr. Blobfish!
